[ Alright. He can totally do this without screwing it up.

Yeah.

Totally.

He fumbles around with it for a minute, hits a few buttons, and just sort of stares at the screen. It's dead silent on the video feed while he just sort of tilts his head to the side, eyes narrowing in confusion. ]

Crap. It's on, isn't it?

[ Ah, shit.

He straightens the communicator out with one hand, uses the other to drag a hand down his face. Dean looks more exhausted than he has any right to, but he's been awake reading through his dad's journal and trying to get his hands on anything that could give him an inclination on how to get home or how he even got here. Unsuccessful, thus far.

Which brings him to this: stopping the whole anti-social thing. ]

So I guess some of you knew me when I was here before. But, uh, I don't exactly remember that. As a warning. So I guess reintroduce yourself, if you want.

[ A pause, because he forgot how bad he is at this crap. Dean's good for one-on-one, for hanging out and drinking a beer or two, not- Wait. ]

And before I make this any more stupidly awkward like a nerd at prom -- anyone up for a drink? Be a lot better at this after a couple.

[Skulduggery could make a post about how it's Not Alright to throw people out of the airlock because of things they may have done back home, or about how it's Definitely Not Alright to just want to throw troublemakers out of the airlock because they've caused, well, trouble, or even about how little attention people have been paying to things like the screaming during jumps, or the missing smiley face, or... any... of that interesting stuff.

He could so definitely do that. But instead, he decides to go a more mild-mannered route.]

So. Does anybody have interesting stories from home they'd like to share? Preferably, ones that don't include throwing people out of airlocks or mass graves or, what was it - firing squads, if you please. Let's try for something a bit more upbeat than that.

[ The feed is shaky at best when it starts up, the video going in and out for a few seconds before it goes black entirely. ]

Is this thing even working am I-- [ a few seconds of complete silence ] -- really like to know if this is even on. Do they actually think this is user-friendly? Is anything around here?

[ Another few seconds, the sound of footsteps and Angel finally gets the video to turn on just as he tries to shove his way through a door, scowling down at the camera. He is one unhappy vampire, and he doesn't have a whole hell of a lot to say.... okay, maybe that's a lie. ]

You know, if the Senior Partners are trying to send a message with this, I might need a translator this time around because i'm just a little lost. In more ways than one. Next time you want to tell me something? Try using your words, not your spaceship.

[ Disconn-- Nope, wrong button. After a few more seconds of grumbling, Angel finally disconnects, disappearing from sight. ]

[ The technology, all in all, isn't too hard to grasp. It's more the fact that there's no real way off the ship (no concrete information as to how the passengers arrived, no explanation as to the contents of the lockers), not to mention the circumstances under which he had arrived, that leave Connors ill at ease. The phenomenon, however, is not one that he seems to be alone in, and when the video feed turns on, he seems much more put-together (and healthier, too) than he'd been when he'd arrived, glasses in place upon the bridge of his nose and the stump of his arm barely visible at the bottom edge of the screen. ]

Apologies, first of all, if the question is redundant, [ he begins, with a slight duck of his head, ] but considering the range of worlds from which we hail, I was curious as to how many passengers are not classified as human or are possessed of "supernatural" capabilities. I'd like to do a little research, if at all possible.

[ He opens his mouth as if to continue on, but seems to think better of it. The transmission is awkwardly short, as is, but he doesn't have much else to say that's strictly relevant (that won't sound too much like covering up). ]

Thank you for your time. Dr. Curtis Connors, at your service.

[Hey, Tranquility. It's that bratty redhead that's been bothering people off and on since two jumps ago. And what is he up to this time? Well, he just looks confused, really.]

I don't get it. How do- I mean, I know how, but. Where I came from we didn't- I only knew like seven people.

[He screws up his face a little, because he just doesn't get it]

How do you guys talk so much?

[Claire's holding her imprint wedge in her left hand, staring at it for a moment before her other hand brushes over some brown curls.]

This place has got me thinking. I know there was someone offering to erase memories-- [And she has her own feelings on that.] But if everything you knew could be erased and you could simply hit 'restart' on your life, would you? If you could start again, forget what you know about this place, about the future you may or may not return to, would you?

[Not that she necessarily has the ability to. The imprint wedge is only a piece of the technology needed. But at least if anything happens to her, if she's damaged, she has this as a back up.]

But starting over could simply lead to the same conclusion. Or you would not be the person you are now, for better or for worse.

[Her face steels again, fingers edging over the wedge before she brings the hand into her lap. Would she want to forget? Truly? No. At least what has happened is real. She's experienced it. It has made her who she is in this moment, no matter her name or her programming.]

Then again, with the erasure of everything I know, it could also be a devolution. [Certainly Alpha would think so.]

This is simply me thinking out loud. With the abilities and things offered here, it simply got me thinking again on what truly makes us who we are.

[ October's camped out in some nondescript hallway, jean-covered legs stretched out, an open book (thanks, Jim) sitting in her lap when she turns the feed on. Settling back against the wall, she twists the ring on her right forefinger a few times before she says anything. ]

I've noticed that a lot of the people here come from places filled with things that shouldn't exist. Either that or they come so far from the future that space travels and interacting with aliens is second nature to them, which made me wonder two things. [ She glances over at her device now. ] One: how many of you come from completely normal places? No werewolves, no zombies, no ghosts; nothing that belongs in a book, not in real life.

And two: has anyone stopped to think that maybe that's why most of us are here? Because we're used to the strange and the unreal so we might be able to deal better? [ It's a theory, one she likes better than wondering how many people on board are dead back home, like her.

She twists her ring around a couple more times before she reaches for the device. ]
The possibility of it sits a hell of a lot better with me than "we're chosen at random" but if anybody's got any better ideas, feel free to speak up.

[ And then she cuts the feed. ]

ooc: anyone who might want to action it up, feel free~ she's hanging out in a hallway fairly close to wherever the 005 rooms are located.

So, look, I get everybody's all jazzed about that list or whatever, and people wanna do the mourning thing. All good, have at it.

What I'm wondering though, is what we got working to find out who helped the dead dude get that way. Still pretty new around here so I don't know what you got rigged up already, but where I'm from something like this happens we mount up before there's a dead guy number two.

[ so that was... kind of a job application. if you tilt your head and squint. and to seal the deal. ]

Wouldn't mind helping out.

[Oh hey Tranquility, here's a familiar face for you, except probably not the one you're expecting. Jay picks up the device more than aware that the line may not be as secure as he hoped but at this point in time it was his only chance of finding answers. With the video feed turned on, he's just hoping whoever sees this doesn't recognize him as that suspected bombing terrorist so he just plans to act as casual as possible]

Is this supposed to be some sort of prank? Because if it is, I really don't think I was drunk enough to have agreed to this.

Not so sure I'm actually buying the fact we're in space but that aside I just have one question though for whoever is getting this message. I'm looking for a friend of mine is there any quick way to find out if he's here or not? Because it's kind of important I find him before he gets himself into trouble.

[ The feed clicks on to a slightly skewed view of Tommy’s room, and then a closeup of his face as he tilts it the wrong way. ]

Was that the right button?

Sure, yeah, that's to start a video. We - well, you - are on camera right now. It's live, so everyone can see and hear you.

[ Raven's made herself comfy seated right next to Tommy ( well, not right next to, she's left enough space between them so she's not on camera, at least, though now she's reaching to adjust the comm so it's angled a little better, a tiny bit further away. ]

See? That- [ pointing ] -little thing is what's recording you. That little dot's the microphone, right next to it. Just don't cover either of those with your fingers and you're fine.

[ Only, he angles the camera again slightly, fiddling with it until Raven’s on screen as well.]

Hi. Hello --

I'm looking for someone. She's...quite small. With brown -- well, blonde hair to about here - [ And Tommy gestures to his chin ] Her name is Kathy. Kathy H. If you've seen her, could you give me a ring here?

( OOC | italics are raven. )

NEW SURROUNDINGS

I read the FAQ and stuff...It's gonna take a while to get used to things - but I guess I'm pretty adaptable. Waking up in blue goo is pretty surreal. Do you ever get used to it?

[ Never one for too many words, Kara opts to send out a mass text to everyone. Knowing at least that way, she can get a better sense of where her attention will need to be.

And it's a good way to look after people without actually saying she is. ]

Since we will be docking soon, I'm wondering what everyone's plans are once we arrive?
