[ October's camped out in some nondescript hallway, jean-covered legs stretched out, an open book (thanks, Jim) sitting in her lap when she turns the feed on. Settling back against the wall, she twists the ring on her right forefinger a few times before she says anything. ]

I've noticed that a lot of the people here come from places filled with things that shouldn't exist. Either that or they come so far from the future that space travels and interacting with aliens is second nature to them, which made me wonder two things. [ She glances over at her device now. ] One: how many of you come from completely normal places? No werewolves, no zombies, no ghosts; nothing that belongs in a book, not in real life.

And two: has anyone stopped to think that maybe that's why most of us are here? Because we're used to the strange and the unreal so we might be able to deal better? [ It's a theory, one she likes better than wondering how many people on board are dead back home, like her.

She twists her ring around a couple more times before she reaches for the device. ] The possibility of it sits a hell of a lot better with me than "we're chosen at random" but if anybody's got any better ideas, feel free to speak up.

[ And then she cuts the feed. ]

We do not have werewolves or anything supernatural. Though the technology is somewhat more advanced, though only a few know about it.

I already got the lecture on "normal" being a relative term. What I meant by it is a world without all of the werewolves and magic, etc.

As far as I know, the only thing we've got is the ghost of a psycho bitch who wants to kill everyone that plays a video game my friend's friend got for beta testing.

Lions, tigers and bears sure are rampant in my world.

[ she once thought her world was incredibly boring and filled with losers, but when she bothered to open her eyes and see, she saw it was much richer than she had originally thought. ]

Does a normal world even exist? Kind of sounds boring without a little touch of vampire here and werewolf there.

Normal is a relative term. For those that have werewolves and other supernatural goings on, it's something they're used to and something they've learnt to cope with. Though using your own definition, I can confirm that I am 'normal', and come from a 'normal' background.

My original world largely believes in both science and religion, though those on the religious side are clearly wrong.

And you do realize that your feelings on science vs religion goes both ways, right? Not saying that I believe all the religious stuff, but they believe they're just as right as you believe you are.

Reanimated corpses. Though I guess people infected with various viruses that aren't technically dead count, too. I think the biggest defining factor is they're completely out of control, there's no reasoning with them, and they're hungry for human flesh. Or brains. Depends on the zombies we're talking about.
