Hey everyone.

I'm sure some sort of demographics survey has been done in the past but I haven't seen one since I've been here and I'm curious. I've tried to keep it pretty basic. I know people are touchy about their privacy, and I know some aren't cool with being asked about special abilities/skills/powers/whatever, so obviously skip questions if you want to, no hard feelings. I'd rather just get name/age/planet than nothing at all, you know? Not like I'm going to hunt you down and force you to fill it out. But if you're willing to be more complete that'd be awesome and if there's something you think is important that I didn't include a field for, let me know.

Maybe there's a pattern here somewhere, maybe there's not, but at the very least it might be interesting or provide some useful data for department recruitment or something. Maybe you'll find some friends, whatever.

Because that's how ninety percent of Christmas movies go. [ Kate says as if this is very obvious. ] Someone's anti-Christmas, they end up on some sort of journey that makes them nicer people who are grateful for the magic of Christmas, and then everyone sings.

Right, but I'm not anti-Christmas. That's why I had the idea for space Christmas in the first place.

Are you sure? Because I think promising people Christmas and then not delivering it is even worse than there being no Christmas at all. You're a Christmas tease.

You told people you were going to gie them Christmas and then you didn't. That's kind of the definition of a Christmas tease.

Oh, sorry. Next time I'll set up the tree in the middle of the corridor haunted with shades of friends who aren't here aboard the ship. We can all have a sing-a-long then.

Why, it just so happens that I do. What a fantastic guess. You're not an Occlumens, are you?

Oh, is that what it is? I don't know, I've never been sure about mind-reading on my list of 'superpowers that'd be fun to have'. I mean obviously sometimes I'd like to, it'd be totally useful, but I feel like in the end it'd turn out to be a lot of stuff I'd wish I didn't know.

Well, it's not exactly mind reading, is it, 'cos a mind isn't like a book you can just pick up and read through. There's loads going on in there. But I think that's sort of in favour of your not-sure-I-want-that-power argument. Loads of things you don't want to know.

To make up for it, I'll make myself an open book to you. Then you won't need any magical abilities or surveys.

Oh yeah? [ Kate doesn't sound like she's taking that offer very (ahem) seriously. But her amusement's the genuine sort, because he is funny not because she's laughing at him. On the other hand, some people would probably offer to turn this into a reciprocal Twenty Questions or something and Kate is not that nice. ] Okay, Sirius Black. What birthday will you be having here in space and when?

Right. Theme is, We're All Stuck In Space For the Foreseeable Future So Let's Get Totally Pissed, then start bracket, Among the Stars, end bracket. Age will be, probably twenty-one. Maybe twenty. I've sort of lost track.

As to when, it falls normally in the month of October, but in space, that translates to... the month of Squiggly-Brow, three yerts hence.

If we're counting jumps as months, I'll be twenty-two in six more of them. [ And is trying rul hard not to think about the prospect of actually being stuck here for an entire year so MOVING ON. ] I have no idea how many yerts that is, but it'd be just before real-Christmas. Not to be confused with Space-Christmas.

Let's Get Totally Pissed is almost always a good birthday theme. Will there be a spacewalk involved, just to really hit the Among the Stars bit?

Sixteen and a quarter yerts from today's gool, actually, so happy very early birthday. Space-Christmas is a whole hell of a lot closer than real-Christmas. I'd tell you when, but as I've said before, even I don't know the when.

Now--by 'spacewalk' d'you mean some sort of dance, or do we go out an airlock and frolic around? The second one might be a bit less of a celebration of a space birthday and more, er. Final.

Thank you! I can't remember the last time I celebrated a half-birthday.

I meant the second one, but like with spacesuits. Probably still a terrible idea around here, but theoretically possible. They must have suits in Flight.
