There's somethi▒▓ very wrong with engineering. [ The announcement's accompanied by a convincing visual: a view of one of the lower walkways in engineering, the rails on one side twisted. The ladder up to the next level is warped, too, cut off several feet from the landing it's meant to be attached to. One of the walls just to the right of the camera seems to buckle as the view's turned away.

The shrill sound of metal distorting and grinding wavers in and out, a steady background noise that's broken only by short bursts of static. When the camera turns to face Fitz, the lights flicker and stay dim. Very horror movie chic.

I can't get back to the ▒▒ive or out of the blo▒▓ hallways, and it's— [ He pauses, glancing off screen for a second. There's no clear evidence of what's got his focus, but another low whine of metal makes it easy to assume. ]

Rikku says it's the s▒▓▓ ▒▓ the last time engineering went tits up, but I haven't been able to fi▒▓ her or anyone else since it started. [ A louder crash of noise this time that begs a second of distracted silence, then a curt: ] If you get anywhere near engineering, use ex▓▒▒▒ ▒aution.

[ Then the feed stops. ]

( OOC: Replies will happen, but they may be icly delayed! Post coincides with second part of July 31 plot. )

[ Appearing on the video, Lydia only gives the transmission some of her attention, busy in the science department. ]

Well, Jasper's gone. Making me the senior and only physical sciences officer aboard Tranquility. If you'd like to consider joining, my name's Lydia Martin. We handle everything nonliving: chemistry, astronomy, physics. My most recent pet project has been an effort in mapping the location of the ship at each jump to understand our flight path, perhaps even predict trajectory.

But with the DUPRR team on board, I'm hoping that project will be rendered redundant. Has anyone had a chance to speak to one of them about their resources? Given that you're all holding them hostage.

[ Strong word, perhaps, but most of them are under guard of some kind. The non-combative eighteen-year-old isn't going to tussle with that, thank you. She'll keep her distance and let other people report in on what they've got to say. ]

Oh, and for anyone who knew him? As of jump 043, Stiles is gone, too.

I could use some help.

[Sam is sitting on the floor, and he looks distressed as the feed starts. A little lost, perhaps, and it's clear that whatever is going to come out of his mouth isn't good news.

The fact that there's smears of blood on his clothes don't help matters. Though the vast majority of whatever gruesome scene he's found is left out of the frame, likely on purpose, there's a body laying nearby, bloodied, shredded clothes draped haphazardly across what is barely recognizable as anything previously alive. It's as if he pulled her there to check if she was still alive and then things just started to...fall apart.

He's no stranger to death, but this is particularly brutal, made worse by the fact that he considered her a friend.

A chalkboard lays nearby, and though something is written on it, from this angle it's nearly impossible to read.]

It's Seraphim.

[The words choke in his throat a bit. He didn't know her well, but they'd talked, and he knew people who were close to her.]

I'm not sure exactly how long she's been like this but...I think this happened before we woke up. During the jump.

[Though not in any advanced states of decay, the blood is still long dry. He swallows, his throat rough as he reaches for the chalkboard, lifting it up so that it fills the scream.]

She left us a message.

[It reads, "It's out there and it wants us alone, we can't be alone."]

Obviously we have a few unexpected guests with us now but there's actually one more everyone should know about. Some of you may be familiar with the name Felix Laurens. Or the face, he looks like this (and really loves having his picture taken):

For those who don't know he was captain of the Scylla, a pirate ship that tried to raid the TQ during jump cycle 17. I'm not going to recount his whole history, you can find more info here. To sum up: as far as we knew, Ward murdered him along with his captive crew during that jump. You may have seen him on the network since then anyway. We don't really know how or why, but he in some fashion survived, trapped. A friend and I finally found him, and he's been in quarantine in Medical for the last couple months.

We've let him out now. He's surly and weird but we don't believe he's an immediate danger to anyone. He hasn't behaved violently with us at all, he just wanted to get out of that place and have access to a gravity couch. So if you see him around or at the jump, a few suggestions:
  • Don't freak out, and please don't attack him

  • If you see him standing outside a normal door like a kitchen or library or something, please let him in. He doesn't have nanites, so he can't actually open any doors in this place himself.

  • If anyone has any ideas how to get him nanites, please let me know that also.

  • Do keep an eye on him and do be on your guard. He may not have any personal desire to harm us, but he is susceptible to the same types of compulsion that we all are, that make us do things we would never otherwise.

  • If he does or says something strange, or goes somewhere he shouldn't be, let me or Charles Xavier or Dr. Gallo know asap.

  • If there's a problem, also let us know and we will handle it.

  • If Ward or Resnik show up, let us know that, too. We think they'd have come by now if they really wanted to finish the job that badly, but who knows.
  • There isn't much about this that I can really explain, but if you have questions this is the place for them.

ALSO: if anyone has a spare comm, let me know? I know there were a few around somewhere at some point.

[ Home vs. the Tranquility is an obvious choice for most people. For the ones from somewhere particularly awful, the ship's the better option; and for some, there isn't much of an option at all.

Fitz had spent several months thinking he was part of the latter group. He'd thought home meant certain death, so he should appreciate cheating it while he had the chance. Since that had been proven wrong, home had resumed being the obvious choice, despite all its complications — but now Jemma's here, and things are somehow better than they'd been back at the Playground. Add to that a friendly research team offering help to the passengers of the TQ, and the end result is dwelling on questions he probably shouldn't be.

And a broad question for the network, minus much context.

Whenever the ship's docked somewhere, it's been too dangerous to stay. But if it wasn't, or if you could get off the ship without going home, would you? If it were possible to go somewhere safe. Different, and not home, but safe.

[ Again with a small wall of text, though this time there's no obvious indication that it's meant as an Engineering PSA. It shows up roughly 24 hours after Annie's warning about the strange noises in the corridors. ]

Re: the creepy sounds in the hallways.

Sent a few volunteers out into the darker corridors to record video and audio (cheers Raven, Sirius & Murphy), along with Grumpy and Sneezy.

[ Context would probably be useful on the last two, but either he doesn't think of it or doesn't care enough to add it. ]

Not sure whether this is reassuring or not, but analysis of the recordings didn't find much. The sounds appear to be inanimate/non-biological in origin. Grumpy didn't pick anything up in the way of human voices or otherwise obvious signs of life forms.

The noises are a bit like what you'd get from a house settling, just on a much larger scale. That said, it's probably advised that you don't go wandering off into the dark, as per usual.

The lights coming on don't appear to be related to any movement, either, but more a methodical rebooting of basic systems. Unexpected, but nothing particularly alarming on the Engineering side of things just yet.

That's about all we've got, but if you've got any questions, let us know.
    22 February 2015 @ 10:35 am
    I heard-

[There is a nervous, jittery pause. Actually, if anyone is listening closely, those first two words? They were pretty nervous and jittery, too. Clearly something has rattled Annie, something that she is not saying.]

    -I heard-

    [Try again, try again.]

I heard something. In the darkened corridors, well, not precisely in them, because I don't go in there, but it sounded like something moving-

Someone, please say, I'm not going mad. I went to look and I saw some lights begin to come on, and then I left, because-

I think everyone here knows why.

[ Natasha’s face on the screen is blank and unreadable, but for those that know her, she’s probably very unamused. She doesn't like it when questions aren't answered, and even less so when she’s actively told not to ask. It just makes her want to ask more.

But this line isn't secure, and Natasha knows better than to push her luck this early on. Thinking of this like a mission is the easiest way to deal with it. ]
Hi. Natasha Romanoff. Some of you have apparently already met me, even though I don't remember it. I've heard a rumor that SHIELD agents are here, so if you could check in with me, I'd appreciate it.

[ As for work, she'll deal with that later. Right now, she has to get settled and get information from people who might actually give it to her. She considers a moment, and then tilts the corner of her mouth up into a tiny smile. ]

Also, I'm into collecting fossils, so if anyone's seen Captain Steve Rogers around, let me know.
[ Rough around the edges in an oil-stained jumpsuit with rolled up sleeves, Devon Resnik broadcasts from a darkened corridor—she sounds grim and looks even more frustrated, like this was the "I told you so" she didn't want coming. One hand reaches up to scratch the spot between her eyebrows. ]

We expanded your access because we thought you had the common sense to keep yourselves alive, not so you could cast off one another's warnings and dig yourselves an early grave. Everyone on this ship is aware of our smiling friend: what makes you want to chat up an anomalous transmission on the network?

[ Her hand drops, and she fixes the screen with a serious look. The frustration drains into her usual: flat, no bullshit. Just the facts. ]

Don't fool yourselves into believing that Van Rijn's people want to help you.

[ From behind her, a much more clean-cut figure with dark hair and broad shoulders approaches. As Resnik takes a half-step to the side of the frame to make room for him, Ward explains further, though his voice is no less flat. ] They want the Tranquility. They're going to try anything to get it, including making promises they can't keep. If you receive any messages from them, don't engage or antagonize. You have no idea what these people are capable of.

[ Resnik turns to glance at Ward over her shoulder, something wary in her eyes: it's met with an equally dour look in his. The look holds for a moment before she turns back to the terminal. ] Seems like we've lost them for now, but they're persistent. Report all communications with individuals identifying themselves as agents of Van Rijn immediately.

[ With those orders stated, she cuts the feed. ]

[ OOC NOTE ▒ Direct your comments to either Resnik or Ward by specifying their name in the subject line. Comments without a name in the subject line will be treated as a question for both. ]

    This is Mystique again.

I'm reporting on the results of the Jump clock project. I won't recap the details there.

    EXTERNAL MEASURE (passenger-fabricated)
    Jump 37: 1,829 hours
    Jump 38: 391 hours
    Jump 39: 6,578 hours
    INTERNAL MEASURES (shipboard systems)
    Jump 37: 0 hours
    Jump 38: 0 hours
    Jump 39: 0 hours

These reports will be ongoing. I strongly advise that the next time anyone debarks, make an effort to estimate the time that's transpired since our stop on Arima.

Analyses and interpretations are welcome. Please be aware that our efforts at external videography failed. Basically, the Jump movement destroyed the equipment. I'll update about the trans-hull cartography project when there's something to update about. A bunch of weird and context-free numbers counts as 'something.'

I would like to commission timekeeping devices not linked to the native system as well, in the time between now and Van Rijn destroying us. Anyone up for it?
    07 January 2015 @ 05:27 pm
Boy, that was a close one! That gas formation was a clever trick.

    Hello there.

I know I've already spoken to some of you—I had hoped to do this individually—but it appears we need to move things along more quickly than we'd realized. That ship of yours seems eager to shake us, and we simply can't let that happen.

My name is Lina Barnez. The rest of the team and I have been working on contacting the Tranquility for some time. Unfortunately, our tech isn't perfectly compatible with what you're running on. It hasn't been easy, but we're managing. I don't know how long we'll have.

We're here to help you, but in order to do that, we'll need you to help us. You've been through a lot on this ship: it's a miracle so many of you are still with us. We'd like to make sure you stay that way, but we can only do that if you're completely honest with us.

We know about the events on Strela, the Cyllene and Arima, as well as the Scylla. What happened to those poor people was not your fault, and you have my word that we have no plans to hold you responsible for those events.

But we need to work together to make sure it doesn't happen again. The more you tell us about what's been going on aboard the Tranquility, the more we can do.

[ NOTE: All conversations will be cut off before too long by the engines suddenly powering back up, and the jump alarm sounding to alert characters to proceed to medbay immediately. ]
    04 January 2015 @ 01:44 pm
[ Guess who doesn't have time for a friendly-faced update on the ship's status: engineering. The following message shows up on the network without any preamble, and probably at an odd hour. They've kind of lost track. ]

Several weeks ago, the ship's engines powered down. Flight crew has confirmed that we're currently parked in an interstellar cloud.

The cloud's atmosphere has caused minor damage to the hull and several non-essential systems. Repairs are ongoing, but the ship's primary systems are running without issue, and passengers are not in immediate danger.

Although the ship is at a standstill, it should be assumed that the jump will proceed as normal. Please be prepared to follow routine jump procedure.

Anyone with mechanical or tech experience, we'd appreciate extra hands on repairs. Volunteers, please apply here.

( OOC: Replies will come from Fitz, Raven, and anyone else with the Engineering department who'd like to hop in. Other departments are welcome to threadjack questions/convos in order to further spread the info provided in this post! )
    30 December 2014 @ 10:47 am
Is this quiet permanent? It's a little unnerving.

[ He means the literal quiet from the engines powering down, not the metaphorical quiet from the absence of overt disaster. The metaphorical quiet can stay. ]
    10 December 2014 @ 12:51 am
    Raven Reyes here.

To the departments (any) - What's protocol when your boss goes MIA? MIA as in disappeared at jump. As far as I know, she never did name a second.

To Flight & Comms - How's our chain of command looking? Still got Wash and Ryuuzaki? Did we lose anyone else?

To Engineering - What now? I'm doing everything I can but we can only go like this for so long.

To anyone who can tell me what the hell this thing is -
[ she's attaching a picture of what looks like a rubik's-cube-sized square of skin and flesh?? it's sitting alone on a table. ] I'm all ears.

To anyone I've ever talked to - Be nice to know if you're still around.
    03 December 2014 @ 05:36 pm
[ For all that Emma tries not to brood, she missed space Christmas and news of Pan's curse has her feeling particularly sentimental. Reflective, even. And the prospect of losing her memories, losing her loved ones, only serves to remind her that sooner or later, they're all trying, in some capacity, to lose the people they've grown to care about aboard the Tranquility. ]

A friend of mine pointed out a while back that not everyone has a home to go back to at this point. Or one worse than what's here, whether that means they're dead or just some other kind of screwed.

[ Strangely, with Dean back now, she has to wonder if he'd say the same again. That staying on the ship, even as it is now, is better than the alternative for some. Getting a read on him is tougher now. It feels like she's missing pieces. ]

What about you? What's your best case scenario for whenever we figure out what the hell's going on here? Do you go home, forget all about it? Backtrack to Arima and set up shop?

    carefully on fire
ill be along to take care of it later

[as part of the aftermath of space christmas, there may be some vicious mistletoe hanging around in certain doorways. some of it bites, and some of it growls, and some of it pursues you until you kiss the person you ran into on your way into the kitchen. classic wizard mistletoe prank gone slightly awry but also it's still funny. mistletoe began concentrated mostly on level 5, but it's spread itself upwards and downwards. and into the SEC offices. and elsewhere. feel free to say that you have been assaulted or do some threads of being assaulted in this post/your inboxes/useful log created for this purpose.]

[ Skye's mostly watched the network, sending a few texts, but otherwise avoided people in any form since she woke up here. She's getting a little tired of ducking behind doors, though. It's like being back in her van and after being on the bus for so long, she's actually feeling lonely and claustrophobic at the idea. There has to be someone here with useful answers. ]

So is everyone here from Earth or what?

Anyone heard of SHIELD? Or HYDRA? I know someone who's really into Captain America. Is that a thing here? Is it too much of a leap to assume that you've heard of America at all?
    03 November 2014 @ 06:56 pm
[ One Lily Potter shows up in-frame as soon as it focuses, for once not smiling but smirking just a little: it changes the plane of her face just like that. There's nothing really strange about the feed until she moves back: there in the background of the feed is one Remus J. Lupin laid out sweaty and graceless on the floor, though once he realizes he's visible he props up on his elbows to laugh. Before she speaks she reaches up to tie her hair back, glancing back at Remus before looking back to the camera. She looks a little sweaty and haggard maybe but otherwise fine: she was stressed and tired before, now she's exerted herself more. It's fine. There's still something lingering behind her eyes but it's hard to place what it is. ]
    Hello, Tranquility.
    [ Um. ]

Things have been a little stressful lately so it seemed like an idea to offer some contained and supervised sparring. Unfortunately I'm generally rubbish with physical combat—[ Felt pretty physical on my end Remus chimes in from the floor, only barely audible. It will be in a minute if you don't stop hamming it up Lily replies, sweet as anything while casually threatening a dude she lay out flat, before continuing. ]—but I was wondering if any other magic users were willing to give it a go. Nothing too intense, like I said, sparring, keep your skills in top shape.
I'm afraid I've already exhausted one taker. [ :) :) luv u Remus sorry she kicked ur butt ]
Anyway! We've overtaken a rec room on floor eleven so that we won't be in anyone's way or disturbing anyone. I'm medical staff so I can oversee if needed. We'll be here a bit, so feel free to stop by. Don't feel shy if you just want to watch, either.
    Maybe it'll become a thing.

    [ WIZARDS OUT. ]

( feel free to interpret that however you please, denizens of the EXTREMELY POORLY NAMED tranquility! all possible interpretations are acceptable in harry's current state of complete emotional breakdown. he probably doesn't care if any of you die, for instance, and may bitterly resent you for having an actual answer to this question.

who cared when norman died? who really cared. people mourned the man who'd contributed so much, but that man was an idea. an image carefully cultivated. harry knew enough to know better, but even he wouldn't pretend to have known his father, and who's going to care when harry dies? just like norman did.

harry's legacy is just disappointment and isolation. his best friend is his only friend and he's pretty sure they're totally not friends any more, also. everything sucks and he broke a bottle when he got back to his room and he can't be bothered to clean it up, he's just going to sit here and hate all of you, publicly and violently, and
