any attempts to hack this will be met with extreme aggression, counter-hack and — if she can manage — the security compromise of your device. unlike other encryptions that aberdeen uses, this one is booby-trapped with very large signs to her hacker friends that more or less read: do not touch.

[ It's the third day that passengers aboard the Tranquility have shown up in medbay with symptoms of some kind of illness. Taken individually, none of them have appeared life-threatening -- physical weakness, loss of coordination, nausea and a mild fever, some ringing in the ears. Things that could be attributed to any number of minor ailments.

When they started presenting with a blue tint to the eyes, lips and nails, that got the medical staff more worried. When someone put it all together and realized that the symptoms all seemed to be linked...well that has the earmarks of an epidemic.

How McCoy ended up with the task of making a general announcement he's not certain, but maybe everyone figures his general doom-and-gloom attitude when it comes to space travel will convey the sense that it's probably not as bad as it sounds, more so than if it came from someone less prone to pronouncements about how they're all likely to die out here.

When the video begins transmitting, it shows him in his blue Starfleet uniform, the wall of the medbay behind him. He isn't smiling, but he isn't looking too worried either. Those who've served with him, however, might recognize that he's wearing his 'CMO' demeanor. ]

I'd like your attention, please. My name is Dr. Leonard McCoy, and I'm one of your medical staff. It's come to our attention down here that there may be some kind of virus makin' the rounds. Before you all start to panic, it doesn't look serious, but it would help us come up with a treatment if anyone exhibiting the following symptoms would kindly stop by for a check-up.

The symptoms are a general weakness or loss of coordination, nausea, fever, ringing in your ears. You may notice a blue tint to your lips, eyes, or fingernails. If you find you have any of these symptoms, get yourself down to the medbay. Could turn out to be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

[ The public transmission ends, but it's followed by two filtered transmissions. ]

Filter to Medical Staff + Betty Ross + Sue Storm + Aragorn | MED Filter 80% )

Filter to Enterprise | McCoy Encryption 80% )

[OOC NOTES: Any of the people currently listed as being on medical staff are more than welcome to threadjack here. At this point, although there may be suspicions and conjecture on the part of the medbay staff, no one has pinpointed a specific cause of the symptoms.

Medical Types: If you're not on the medical staff list or specifically named by McCoy, but you have medical/science skills you want to contribute, please feel free to respond to the general transmission and make an offer. He'll add you to the filter.

Enterprise Crew: Feel free to up Bones' encryption if your skills are better, which most of them probably are. ;) ]

I want to know who else has gotten sick on this ship lately. Coughing badly, losing consciousness, or anything like that.

Because you should REALLY follow the doctor's orders and go to the medbay if you're feeling off.
[Read as: Signal boost to the people Murphy gives a shit about to GET YOUR SICK ASSES TO A DOCTOR right the fuck now, so he doesn't have to harass you individually at this point.]

[ Filtered to ENG and SCI stamps | Filter 30% ]

[ John is standing with his arms crossed, in the Medbay. One can see only the faintest hint of the patient beds behind him. ]

Right. Hello, I'm Doctor Watson, obviously signaling you out of the medbay. You may have heard Doctor McCoy put out a call earlier announcing the illness that's been seen in a few passengers lately.

We're currently exploring all outlets of possible transmission for this disease, and we haven't ruled out environmental factors like radiation or air contamination.

I was wondering if any of the engineers wouldn't mind trying to do a sort of... system's check or something? See if there's not a leak somewhere, any radioactive contaminants...

Also, we need someone who's knowledgeable to come and have a look over our medical machinery. We don't know how many people we're going to be getting in here, but we definitely don't need any of the things going bust on us. There's no problem at the moment, but better safe than sorry, yeah?

Thanks.

[he knows he can't stop anyone from going, which is fifty percent of the reason he makes this a public broadcast instead of filtered. his transmissions starts with a file transfer. it comes with a photo pulled of the subnetwork, and detailing how to get to the start of the maze, located next to the Oxygen Garden. he'd rather people be informed than go wandering about, after all.]

{file transfer::// START.jpg}

Alright people, whatever we've caught is lethal. We need people in fit condition [or as close to it] to be assisting in the search. Anyone heading into the maze, do not go alone, do not go unarmed, and be careful.

Enterprise, we leave at 16:00 hours.

[ooc; feel free to use this post as IC coordination for heading into the maze/forming groups if you want! also this is pinging anyone Jim might not have talked to about going into the maze with him, ie: Asato, Godric, Todd, Jane Sheppard, Jack, etc.]

✧Zatanna Zatara✧
13 June 2012 @ 07:23 pm
[Zatanna slowly blinks into the camera, looking very much not like herself.  The normally perky 14-year-old's eyes are glossed over, and her skin has taken on a very unhealthy shade of palish-green.  There are beads of sweat across her brow.  She is partially slumped over against the bench she's partially sitting--but mostly slouching--in.]

Will s'mbody tell them to turn the heat down?  S'too hot...

[A hand rises to her forehead for a moment, swiping at the strands of hair plastered to her face.]

Can barely...

[But she loses her train of thought mid-sentence]

...oh, never mind, I'll do it.

'Looc nwod'

[The spell was intended to provide her with an ice pack.  Or at least a fan.  Instead, it starts snowing right over her head; a personalized cloud that begins dumping crystalized flakes on top of her, and nowhere else.]

[She glares up at the offending cloud for a moment, before giving up with a shrug.  Sliding down even further, she repositions herself so that she's now laying down on the bench.  Her eyes close shut, and it's almost as if she's forgotten the camera was still focused on her.]

Close enough.

((ooc: Zatanna's sick, and it's affecting her powers.  Rescue rights go to Superboy/Conner (
[personal profile] seethemoon)-- ie: He'll be the one to ultimately take her to the medical bay.  But otherwise, everyone's welcome to contact and/or offer help.))

[ dear smiley, you suck. well more particularly, your timing does. if only because tony was attempting to make his own way to medical with a fair number of stumbles along the way (honestly, the walls jumped out at him). but then you have the audacity to be all ~follow me~ and of course tony stopped to look and promptly stumbled once again, this time onto the floor. fun fact about the floor, it feels really nice to a guy with that weird sickness thing that seems to be going around. so he's choosing to stay there for now. what the video shows everyone is the ceiling, a charming view that he knows everyone appreciates.

he's not going to show off how he looks unless you really ask or manage to be the one of the people finding him, but hey it's better that way. you don't want to see any blueness he has going on. there's a sour burp heard before tony actually starts to speak. ]

That was disgusting. And I'm- technically no, I'm not sorry because it was bodily function and let me tell all of you that it was even more disgusting for me. [ a pause. ] I believe Kirk deserves some applause for managing to beat me in telling you all shit so you should all do that, maybe. He deserves it. [ and then there's some clapping. ] See? I even did it.

But anyway, I'm on the floor right now, it's a nice view from down here, I'll admit, but hypothetically I may not be able to get up right now. I know, this is a shocking concept because I'm kind of an energizer bunny and that doesn't usually happen to me. That being said, who might be willing to maybe find me, swing by, help a guy out here so he's not stuck on this, arguably really nice floor, and can maybe get himself to medbay? Possibly with your assistance so I don't have to make this message again. Even though it's a lot of fun making it right now.

And as much as I love all of you, letting you see the ceiling is a much better choice than letting you see me right now. Don't worry, later I'll say hi and you'll get to see me looking a little less gross.

[ encrypted 100% to aberdeen ]

are you going blue right now?

[ ooc | SO. unless i remember wrong, dibs on finding go to sue storm, and then the actual dragging part of this goes to both natasha and clint but seriously feel free to offer help or mock tony. it's all good. and bear with me on slowness. C: ]

Commander J. Shepard

[the audio clicks on, standard fare business-as-usual Shepard voice]

So it turns out even if you have a synthetically reinforced immune system, given the right germs, you can still get sick.

What I'm curious about is how the hell that happened, but I guess that'll have to wait. I never did pay enough attention where medical mumbo jumbo was concerned. At least there's somewhere to start.

[VIDEO; Filter: Normandy Crew (all-inclusive) | 80% unhackable]

[and the video flickers on once Shepard cuts the main feed, pinging her crew and John Shepard specifically. All things considered, she looks a hell of a lot better than some of the others infected, but for Shepard she's looking a little worse for wear than usual. The blueish tint to the whites of her eyes is also off-setting the grey of her irises in an odd manner, but she figured the kids would see her sooner or later, may as well get them used to this now.]

At 1600 I'm heading out with Captain Kirk and any others he manages to wrangle up. I told him I'd get extra bodies if I could, so if any of you aren't infected and want to help comb this maze, I'd appreciate having people I know and trust at my back.

It's out of the question if any of you are presenting symptoms, however. [hypocrisy, thy name is jane shepard.]
