[ John is standing with his arms crossed, in the Medbay. One can see only the faintest hint of the patient beds behind him. ]
Right. Hello, I'm Doctor Watson, obviously signaling you out of the medbay. You may have heard Doctor McCoy put out a call earlier announcing the illness that's been seen in a few passengers lately.
We're currently exploring all outlets of possible transmission for this disease, and we haven't ruled out environmental factors like radiation or air contamination.
I was wondering if any of the engineers wouldn't mind trying to do a sort of... system's check or something? See if there's not a leak somewhere, any radioactive contaminants...
Also, we need someone who's knowledgeable to come and have a look over our medical machinery. We don't know how many people we're going to be getting in here, but we definitely don't need any of the things going bust on us. There's no problem at the moment, but better safe than sorry, yeah?
Thanks.

We can do a check on the air filtration systems and medical equipment, however. That's no trouble.
audio;
About how many do you have on your team, there?
audio;
As for staff. We've got a little more than a dozen, including volunteers. Over a third are qualified to work solo.
audio;
[ More than medstaff has at the moment, woe. ]
Over a third are familiar with this, ah, level of technology?
audio;
text;
After McCoy lets me out of med bay.
video;
My apologies, but did you introduce yourself as Doctor Watson?
video;
And that I did.
[ Arched brows. ]
I spoke to you earlier, didn't I? About the ah... medical staff volunteers.
video;
Yes sir. You introduced yourself, however, as John Watson. Given the difference I believe I must say that it is indeed an honour to meet you, Doctor.
video;
[ Quirk of brows. ]
Come to think on it, I'm not sure I've heard your name, Mister...?
video; /sob watch me asspull if only because he didn't mention it last time
[ Pause. ] Lieutenant Commander Data, Doctor.
video; ffff I'm sorry ;;
[ There's a curious crinkle at the corners of his eyes. ]
Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lieutenant Commander.
video; nooo don't mention it it was my mistake
[ He doesn't explain, because clearly the most likely person to know about his adventures is Watson himself. ]
Data would be fine.

Currently my sister and a good friend of mine are showing symptoms of varying severity. Can you tell me if anyone is drawing samples of blood to check current patients for any similarity of cellular engagement or evidence of a common foreign body?
Likely, I myself have no symptoms though I room with my friend and have had close contact with my sister as well. Will the medical staff be wanting to test those of us without symptoms to see if there is some commonality that could be explored further for a possible vaccine?
Video
Ah, yes, Mr. Xavier. We decided that this illness was not an isolated case by comparing blood and tissue samples. Actually, we have taken samples from seemingly healthy individuals as well, only to find that there is evidence of the same cell affliction. A more latent disorder, I suppose. It seems to vary in strength between subjects... as you've observed in your sister and friend.
[ There is genuine sympathy here. ]
So if you're not showing signs, I can't guarantee you don't have the illness without a blood sample. I suggest you come to he medbay as soon as possible so that we can treat your sister and your friend. As you've said, we haven't found anything to do away with the disease completely, but we can possibly bring them some relief.
I think what you're saying about a vaccine seems the best choice. I myself am not an immunologist, nor do we have any in our division, but we're working toward finding out as much as we can, as quickly as we can.
[ They're not wholly certain of what it even is. ]

[Which was part of why he was probably a doctor's nightmare when it came to his sister and family being sick. He would ask all the annoying questions.
Still he listens attentively, nodding with an expression of not relief but satisfaction as Watson lists off steps already taken.]
Not the answers I was hoping for, I am sure you will understand. My friend, Erik has already been to the medbay once, Monday though he is to date refusing to stay. My sister is worse off.
For now I can offer only my own cooperation, if you would tell me where to go and who to see to offer a sample?
Video
[ A very young professor, though. John's not about to argue with him over it, though, or probe - there are much bigger things to deal with at the moment. ]
With all due respect, Professor Xavier, I have friends who are suffering from the illness just as your sister and Erik are.
[ He, himself, actually has it as well. That's not something he's willing to reveal, though, for very obvious reasons. The symptoms haven't manifested, but they'll be coming. When, he doesn't know, but it'll hit him. ]
My colleagues are in a similar situation, the most of them. We're doing everything we can.
[ His jaw flexes briefly, but it's the only sure sign of irritation he shows. ]
You can come to the medbay to have a sample drawn. They'll be going to our cellular biologist, Dr. Ross, I'd imagine, for the analysis.
Video
Of course everything is being done, Doctor Watson, I did not mean to imply otherwise. It is a tense time for all of us and I apologize if I allowed my worry to bleed over into a sharp tone, it was not my intent.
I mean only to offer what assistance I may, be it another set of eyes or simply samples that may be used to further research into what can be done to help our fallen friends and family.

[ There is an attempt of a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes, and fades quickly back to seriousness. ]
What's going on?

I believe we may now consider the epidemic potentially fatal.

Are you certain?
[ The tests with their septic cells don't look that good either, to be honest. ]

I have recently become aware of cellular developments that will compromise my internal organs in a matter days. In human patients, I expect this process will be accelerated.
