[ here we have Uhura! being entirely too formal again. these are two separate video transmissions, both under links that you'll have to click on to view, in case you only have interest in one subject or the other. or neither. right. basically she doesn't feel like clogging up your airwaves with her requests and stuff. and it's all under one big protective encryption to keep any creepy anonymous text messengers away. lookin' at you, smiley. ]

A T T N: ALL PASSENGERS

re: tech tutoring

For those who don't know me, my name is Nyota Uhura, and I am offering my services as a communications tutor. Anyone that would like to better understand how to protect the transmissions sent from his or her network devices - from basic levels of safeguards, to more advanced encryptions - please feel free to contact me at any time. As I understand it, there are already quite a few tutors who are willing to teach, but considering the number of passengers aboard the ship, I'm hoping one more won't be unwanted.

re: research assistance

I also have a request: In hopes of becoming further educated on our current situation, myself and a few others have taken on the task of filing through the ship's database. There is a huge amount of literature, both useful and arbitrary, in the ship's library, and we could definitely use more hands and eyes searching for anything that might be useful to us. By that I mean - give us the right information needed to fix those parts of the ship that are broken, as well as tell us what might have brought us here in the first place. How it was even possible. As of right now, I personally have been looking specifically into the history of this particular spacecraft, but the goal of the research is, at this time, open-ended.

That said, if there is anyone on board that is genuinely interested in helping us read through, organize the information we find, or help translate the articles written in various Earth languages, please let me know here. Any help is appreciated, of course, but take note that volunteering comes with the responsibility of recording any useful information you might find, so that we may share it with the rest of the ship at any given time. This is not a personal endeavor by any means, but one that we are hoping will benefit the entire crew in keeping us safe, and maybe even returning us back home.

Thank you.

[Oh hey, he's actually showing his face for once, because he looks kind of grim. SERIOUS BUSINESS FACE. He also seems to be fiddling with some sort of... box of connected wiring and parts down in the engineering deck, but he's less focusing on that and more the video screen.]

So I've heard talk of mazes and lists and people wanting to scout. Now... I'm not going to say that's a bad plan, but you better know what you're in for.

I told you all I was on a ship like this once - and it's getting similar by the day -, but there's a few tricks and tips that you might want to keep in mind, everyone who's ready to go investigating.

The first point should be fairly obvious: Don't go alone. We have no idea what this smiley character is planning on, and last I checked, most people don't have eyes in the back of their head. Having at least one person to tag with you if you're going to explore is a good idea. Groups of three are best - but if you want to go larger, by all means.

The second - find something to defend yourself with. It doesn't matter what it is. A nice left hook, something heavy enough to swing, or... [He holds up something by his side, which looks like it could be a cross between a pistol and some sort of welding torch.] Good old fashioned power tools. Either way, you need something for one the off chance things are going to go wrong.

The third is probably the most important. Don't panic. There is reason to be worried, without a doubt, but you need to keep a cool and level head when it comes to dealing with a crisis situation on ships like this. Keep in touch with the ship's communication system. Be cautious, but cool-headed. There's plenty to fear, but if you panic, it just makes it that more hard to reason through what Smiley's wanting us to do.

Those are just my two cents, though. Feel free to disregard them. [He shrugs a little, as if he's not expecting anyone to listen regardless.]

Clarke out. [And there goes the feed.]

neal caffrey, magnificent hipster douchebag
[ attached to the top of this post is a sketch of hotspur, culled from one of his network posts. the real version is helpfully left in the oxygen gardens, somewhere high.

Who didst create the heaven and earth,
And bid the planets and the sun
Their own appointed orbits run;
O hear us when we seek thy grace

( ooc | SO NEAL IS DECENT AT HACKING BUT NOT FANTASTIC the higher level techheads can break this one. say, tony stark level awesome and above, hack away: if you're not sure whether your character would be better at this than neal, ping me on plurk and we can figure it out.

Anne Marie Cunningham

[On the screen, there's a tense-looking CO in full uniform moving back and forth across the room. There is always something off-putting about Anne Cunningham. It might be the way she always looks like she wants to kill everyone, or maybe it's the harsh and businesslike way she talks. But whatever the case, even in the video it's apparent, and currently she's pacing around her room. When the transmission's been going for about fifteen seconds, she stops pacing long enough to focus on the feed she's sending out, leaning slightly against the wall beside her]

I've been here a month now, and I haven't noticed any kind of law enforcement around here. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but from where I'm standing, it's like anarchy around here.

[her tone is clipped and she leans her head back against the wall]

I guess my main question is, who exactly's keeping order around here?

[private video to Murphy Pendleton]

How're the birds? They haven't escaped yet, have they?

[what she really means is "how are you and how's that drinking problem?" but she keeps it professional. Well... as professional as one can be when talking about birds that you're unwittingly sort of a surrogate mommy to]

Kᴀʀᴀ (sᴛᴀʀʙᴜᴄᴋ) Tʜʀᴀᴄᴇ
[The transmission continues from Hotspur’s communication device, silence still spilling onto the network until some short time after the jump. There’s several muffled bangs – the sound of another door control panel being loosened and dropped – and then the long groaning sound of metal being forced, followed by a low gasp in surprise from Kara. ]

Frakken Hell. [coolly:] Is it?

[Footsteps. A soft, wet noise and then the clink of metal – dogtags being lifted free.]

It’s him.

[A long pause, followed by a few mumbled words exchanged between the two. ]

Turn his frakken device off.

[There’s the static shuffle of the device being lifted and moved, and then Hotspur’s final tranmission is shut off.]

(audio transmission)

[ The gap between hotspurs discontented transmission and Kara's audio flickering to life isn't long, but it's enough for the pair to discuss a few things (mainly the post hotspur sent out prior to his last). And when Kara does finally speak, it's short and to the point. ] Lieutenant Southey – Hotspur – didn't survive the jump.

Some assistance would be appreciated soon.

[ and with that, she ends the transmission, not wanting to give away too much of her emotions. ]

ooc: Colors: Riddick and Kara.
Feel free to make this a catch all post for chatting about what happened,
as well as whatever else. POOR HOTSPUR :(

[and the video clicks on to James Kirk. he's a little rough around the edges, having just staggered out of jump, been fed on by a wraith, and now handling a possible crisis situation but his tone is sharp, clipped. commanding.]

This is James Kirk.

{flags to MEDICAL PERSONNEL}
There's been an accident. We need medical assistance to coordinates [x,x].

To everyone joining us, you're on board the starship Tranquility, a space faring vessel in a parallel universe to your own. The year is 938 After Earth. I'm sure you have plenty of questions. I'd like to welcome to you with happy news, but unfortunately that isn't possible. Effective immediately, you are part of the active crew. Whomever was here before us, save Captain Ward and First Officer Resnik- they're long gone.

I want everyone to exercise caution when moving about the ship. I've provided what we have of a MAP attached to this broadcast. This map may not match some corridors you travel down, as we've found during every jump, the internal network of the ship seems to rearrange itself. Move in groups if you're able to and stay alert.

One more thing:

If you encounter anything similar to THIS, let someone know and do not engage. It is a potentially hostile entity on the ship that's been causing us trouble.

Above all, stay calm. Panic won't get us anywhere.

[he takes a breath. he wishes he was finished, but that isn't the case.]

Anyone wondering about the organization of the ship, I'd like to direct you to the Job List and the Shift Roster. Everything is voluntary, but I strongly encourage everyone capable to get involved.
