Morning, Tranquility, this is Jim Kirk.

Some of you may have heard my name floating around. I'm here to answer questions if any of you still have them.

[but this broadcast has the air of purpose, and he gets down to it pretty quick.]

Those of you that have been around for at least a handful of jumps are going to know what this is about, but for those of you that don't, during our stay on the Tranquility it has come to light that some of our number require more than what humans would consider regular dietary needs. Unfortunately, we haven't yet been able to synthesize all of these needs. Therefore, on behalf of one of that number, I'm asking some of you to come forward to donate to keep this individual from starving to death while on board. I'd like anyone with substantial stamina willing to volunteer to contact me. The procedure will be safe, and medical officers will be present at all times.

I name her for it is foolish to think that she will not come for me one day, long though my life has been. When it is my time to die, I shall die without fear. And so, as you say, shall you.

If Death is not to be feared, what do you fear?

Falling, and being unable to get back up. But not death; failing the people who depend on me.

We are not dissimilar in that respect.

Fear was brought to this ship before. I won't let it happen again. You feel the same way.

Fear is still aboard this ship. What I feel will not change that fact. What I do will.

[ It's a contradiction for someone who wears fear to be fighting it, but Bruce feels its silently acknowledged somewhere in the conversation. He is a contradiction; it's why he doesn't need to - shouldn't - exist in a place where fear no longer dwells. But Gotham and this ship have that affliction in common. ]

Our actions define us. So they define Kirk's anonymous beneficiary. I am no less culpable.

I don't ask the people who need my help to beg for it first. If he is sentient, culpable...afraid.

[ He should ask how he knows, but instead there's just the briefest pause. ]

[ He's made a leap there--assumed. He knows he could be wrong, but on the other hand, they might stop dancing around the old, overused prologue of 'I have this friend--' ]

If it were blood, then Kirk would have been plain and said so. I have stamina, but that's a word that can mean many things.
