Welcome to the Tranquility.

Not even close to being an IC cut, advice for newbies )

[ And now the more important part of his transmission, so pay attention. ]

To that end, please allow me to introduce you to a new concept.

Your Tranquility, Your Community

Outside of the volunteer crew - which I urge you to join if you have even the slightest skill or want to learn to do something useful with your time - we have a community that provides an extensive support structure. Everyone seems to be doing something to try and make life easier for everyone else, whether it's group cook-outs in the kitchens or offering to mend clothes or teach people to shoot. There's clubs to play games, chess, and routine meetings of survival training, space chapel--pretty sure there's even someone around here proposed weekly concerts, and we used to have a movie night, for God's sake. If that's gone underground, I wanna know about it.

Now I'm sure I'm not the only one on board who's tired of repeating these invitations. That's why in the interests of Your Tranquility, Your Community, I've put up an electronic pinboard for people to leave their own advertisements, put up sign ups, fliers for one day events, anything you like. If you've got a private job and you're looking for a specific skill, post it here. If you've got something you want to trade, if you run a club, if you're just looking for someone to talk to, this is your place for communicating it with the community without having to repeat yourself endlessly on the network.

You don't need my permission to use the pinboard, it's for the community to use as it will, and I hope you do.

Petrelli out.

[ This video starts out much like any other - new person being mildly awkward, staring a little to the left. Sheepish might be a good descriptor for Peter at the moment. ]

Right, so. [ Which isn't what he planned to open with, hang on, let's rewind. ] My name's Peter Petrelli. I'm from New York, year 2006. I've read back on the network enough to get a decent idea about what's going on, but not nearly enough to make sense. I did read that we have a medbay, and that I was here before. So uh, sorry about this, but I don't remember being here the first time around.

I guess what I'm trying to say is — who do I actually talk to about getting on the medical team?

Oh, and I can't figure out the space microwave. A little help with that, maybe?

Given all that has happened lately, we need more help down in Shuttle Bay.
We currently have 5 shuttles properly running and we need more if we ever have to leave here.
So if you're interested in helping there let one of us know, we'll answer any questions you may have.

We're also looking for a few others who are willing to learn to fly – idiots need not apply.

- Capt. K. Thrace (battlestar galactica)

[ Wait, something’s wrong. When you open the message to start your reply, it seems to glitch, and then Casey’s face appears on the screen. ]

Hah, got it. Now listen up, if you’re hearing this it’s because you’re about to throw in and offer your no doubt endless talents to a good cause down here in the shuttle bay. I thought it only fair to warn you that we don’t take nerds who can’t keep their mouths shut down here. [ No breaking Obi-Wan, okay? ] We want hard workers and only hard workers, because if the shit hits the fan you lot are going to be grateful that there’s a fleet of shuttles kept ship shape to save your sorry asses.

And if you want to learn to fly, you’d better have a good sense of direction and survival instinct, because with Captain Fry as your teacher you’re going to need it.

Casey out. [ The video feed crackles and is dead. ]

[ ooc: this is a basic call to arms from your lovely flight crew, and any questions your character may have will be answered from any one of them. Please sign up and join the team…they play poker, drink, bitch and get things done. ]

Simon Tam
13 November 2012 @ 09:40 pm
[Today's video post reveals Simon against the usual backdrop of Medbay--it's clear he's a little exhausted from the blackout and subsequent jump, but he does his best to appear put-together and professional, because that's what you should do when addressing large amounts of people.]

At this point I think the customary welcome would be…more than a little redundant, so I'll try to be brief.

[He coughs a little, more to fill the silence than anything, clearly a little unaccustomed to making these kinds of announcements.]

My name is Simon, I'm one of the doctors on board. My background is in trauma surgery, but we're all used to working outside our specialties here. Physicians, nurses, laboratory technicians, you…get the idea.

I won't pretend we're not understaffed, or that the hours aren't long, but anything you can offer is appreciated. If you're interested in joining the medical team and have the knowledge or experience, let me know, and we can put you on staff.

[Simon's brow furrows. Even if he didn't know them very well, good medical personnel is something of a precious commodity in situations like this.]

We've lost a few good doctors recently, and we could use any willing volunteers.

Wanda Lehnsherr
13 November 2012 @ 10:16 pm
[Despite all of the incredible and sometimes unbelievable things that Wanda’s seen and experienced in her life, nothing quite prepares her for her arrival on the Tranquility. It isn’t even the fact that she’s unexpectedly woken up on a spaceship that throws her off-balance (though it's quite unexpected), or even the fact that time and space and reality seem to work differently there (because really she's sort of used to that). It's that Pietro isn’t there during a decidedly difficult point in her life (after-life?) that impacts her the most. She can’t remember a time they've ever been parted in such a way, and the feeling is extremely unsettling.

Taking a deep breath, she sets her communication device to broadcast her message in video. She's dressed in her Ultimates uniform, though only the top of the red leather shows on screen. By all appearances seems to be in her early to mid-twenties, with an unusual amount of confident and poise evident in her body language.]

Good evening, my name is Wanda Maximoff and I'm another of the recent arrivals.

[Of course, it's not her real last name, but both she and Pietro adopted it after breaking ties with their father, and it was far easier to go through life not reminding people that they were the children of the infamous Magneto.]

I'm looking for any information regarding my brother, Pietro. It seems that he did not arrive with me, but considering the nature of where we are and shifting realities, any news as to whether he was here in the past would be appreciated.

[She shouldn't really need to add that if he arrives in the future she'd also like to know, right? Surely everyone here has some common sense regarding such matters. From all of the FAQ's she's read recently, they seem more on top of matters than she might have expected of most people. Wanda pauses, and after a moment continues.]

Also, has anyone managed to determine how many different dimensions and points in time we represent on board? Which worlds are similar and which ones are clearly separate, for instance?

[She's curious, not just because of her own dealings with altering reality, but because she's hoping that someone will be able to give her a basic idea of who she's dealing with on board and perhaps even which ones are from worlds similar to her own. Mentioning mutants or any groups by name would draw attention she's not sure she wants yet. Not until she knows who's listening on the other end.]

13 November 2012 @ 10:25 pm
Umm, hi. I'm Thrice, from Earth, and I was thinking that, well, back home, I teach, well, I mostly research, but I also dabble in information-theoretics and OTPs like See-Spring and t...this is going poorly.

[He makes a bit of a hand-flappery gesture before continuing.]

If you're not from a time or place or have a lot of experience with computers and encryption, I'd be happy to meet you, walk you through the basics, and help you learn how to encrypt your messages.

Isaac Clarke

Given the last crisis, I think it's safe to say that being "understaffed" is putting it lightly for me and the other grease monkeys.
If you've got something worth using between the ears and don't mind getting your hands dirty, come on down to the Engineering Bay, because if we don't keep this place running, no one will.
And no triple-shifters, I already have to chase down Sulu to get him to sleep once a week. You don't need to sleep often, but more than him or me.
-Isaac Clarke (CEC Systems Engineer, Tranquility)
-OPR » 002 » 035

[When you go to reply, you get a small audio post, courtesy of Isaac himself.]

Glad to hear you're thinking of signing up for the Engineering team. I've seen a lot of crew come and go already, but we can always use more hands - we've till got half the ship to cover, after all. There's a lot of hard work and the glamour is pretty nil, so don't expect to get praise when telling people you've cleaned out the vents or fixed a short on the grid.

Don't ask too loudly about the Jump Drive if you want to stay on Resnik's good side. No, we don't know how it works, calm down. We'll take the eggheads that won't fit down on the flight crew, but don't get cocky because the work is just as hard.

I can at least promise you it won't be boring, there's plenty of stuff to monitor and explore down here, just watch your step.

Clarke out.

[ooc: Just like with the flight crew call-to-arms, this is a call for anyone who wants to jump into the woefully understaffed engineering department to get into the guts of the ship. Questions will be answered, people will join the team with hopefully a shred of sanity and poking the ship's guts will happen in mass.]
