14) To distinguish between a car and the 'kart' that is used on the tracks. They're definitely not carts.

9) dunno but it seems a likely candidate doesnt it. common factor & all, also weve got precendece to draw from. only it doesnt seem very likely cos as i said: loads of arm wrestling & karts when all weve got is carts & even then thats just support

( Space, the arm wrestling frontier. These-

It's an hour later, or just before an hour later when Maria gets to the space bar on level four. She wanted to give herself a chance to scout out the necessary "ingredients" for her magic drink before Sirius got there. She might be saying that she can make it but that's only if everything is there. Everything being a bottle of it. That would be why he can find her behind the bar when she gets there )

[Sirius, habitually late anyways, is not a difficult man to beat for an arrival--not even when a pub is involved. He slumps in perhaps ten minutes behind schedule, in jeans and a leather jacket and a t-shirt. Not very Tranquility official for a man conducting a network-wide survey, but that's probably to be expected.

He strolls over to the bar and chooses a seat right in front of her, which he hops onto, easily.]

Hullo, opponent.

( At his voice, and the slight scraping of the stool, Maria leans back a little from the bar, hand pressing a little firmer onto the counter top to keep her balanced whilst she looks up )

You look different than your texts.

( That could be amusing if he'd never shown his face before ever, and she hadn't known who he was since Shepard the first brought his name up to her. She gives it a few seconds of looking at him before looking back at the bottles, finally finding the right one and pulling the bottle up - and standing )

Magic cure. ( She gives the bottle a little shake for effect ) You want it now or after?

[He considers this a moment, head cocked slightly, like this angle will somehow help him see what she might mean. It doesn't, of course, but he keeps it up as long as she does.

Idly, as she stands, he wonders aloud:]

Dunno what my texts would look like. Oh, look--

[The magic cure. Which doesn't look distinctly potiony, and so is probably (definitely) not magical, but that's all right.]

I'll take it now, but save it for later. No sense in wasting it, yeah?

( Placing the bottle on the counter Maria slid it over to him )

Don't drink it all. You'll probably feel worse than just keeping the hangover.

( She had never made any claims that this cure was nice, just that it worked. Sometimes the best curse was a nasty thing - and this was. Good luck, hope you've got a good stomach )

I'm surprised more people don't end up drunk here.

( Or maybe they did. Maybe she didn't look for it )

Dunno if that's actually possible, but. Thanks for the warning.

[Feeling worse, that is. It helps that this isn't strictly a hangover--just a hangovery feeling, an absorption of someone else's something. 'Hangover' is the neatest way to describe it, and rolls off the fingers easier than the real explanation.

But this potion ("potion", muggle style) has got to be better than gritting teeth and bearing it. Hair of the dog, isn't that what they say? For dogs, that can be a bit close to home. Sirius accepts the concoction regardless.]

Have you spent much time in the space pubs? There's always a customer or two. Or three. Or someone amassing a collection to take home. It helps that there isn't much else to do.

I used to. Now? Not so much.

( Not after the friend that she somehow ended up in a space pub with every month left the ship. It wasn't a reluctance to go based on that, more just not having a reason to go - a friend to sit and talk with with a drink. She'd ended up throwing herself into Gunnery even more instead )

Let me guess. You're one of those frequent fliers.

( Well, he seems to know how it goes anyway )

[Like this is an excuse: either out of boredom, or out of a desperate attempt to cope.]

Can't say that I've ever been challenged to arm wrestle. Congratulations on being an exception to normalcy.

But before he takes her hand or anything, he clarifies:]

( Usually to settle pissing contests. It ended up being a good method, even if she hated having to prove herself. This time was just a friendly challenge - her challenge. No proof required.

Maria moves to grip his hand, gently at first before adding the slightest bit of pressure )

[Not rushed, and he doesn't throw his weight into the contest early or anything. Playing by the rules. Surprised? Don't be. Marauder sensibilities aside, he is still a Gryffindor.

But now that there's been a three, he's in, and he shoves against her hand, a good strong shove.]
