[It's a rare video post from Edgeworth. He looks tired, but he seems less depressed than he did a few hours ago; he's focusing on his anger to carry him through.]

Security has a certain amount of the ship secured. These areas are the ones we patrol, the ones you're all accustomed to: the passenger quarters, the oxygen gardens, the medical bay, et cetera. The areas in which you reside. If you stay within those boundaries, we try to keep you safe to the fullest of our abilities; though our manpower is limited, we will do what we can.

If you stray, then we can do nothing. As I said, our manpower is limited, and beyond where we have secured, it is essentially enemy territory. So all of you, no matter how impressed you are with your survival skills and abilities, needs to treat it like enemy territory. It isn't a place to have a walk. It isn't a place to go out and search for monsters so that you can get your fun cracking a few heads. It isn't a research lab. It is a place fraught with danger, and if you go out there, you run the risk of death.

So if you go out, then you will treat it like it is enemy territory. You will not go out alone. You will not go out unarmed. You will not go out without notifying security. If you fail to do any of these things, then you should damn well compose your suicide note to your friends on-board, because you're very likely going to die. And while security isn't ever going to leave anyone to die, you can't treat this ship like an amusement park and expect to live to see the next jump.

[And he glares at the camera a moment longer - and then he glances off to the side, his lips relaxing very slightly.]

It seems to me like it should indeed be common sense. Everyone knows the danger out there. It is simply my hope that this will have demonstrated that even the most powerful among us are not immune to it.

[He didn't know them - or at least he didn't remember them - but it's really goddamn upsetting to him that people are dying for no reason.]

[Oh - Jesse. Edgeworth sort of forgets that it's video, and so he actually lets his expression soften more than he would in person.]

[There's a moment where Edgeworth just sort of puzzles over that. He wishes Mike had used voice or video or something, because he can't really make out the tone. Sarcastic? Upset? Is he feeling hurt, or is he being callous?]

It is upsetting, without question. I must say, however, that better that the death was captured than she died without any evidence being left behind. We'd never have found her body were it not for the broadcast.

[Edgeworth stares for a moment, his eyes slightly narrowed. He thinks he recognizes that voice, but he can't be entirely sure...After a moment, he responds:]

We're concerned with keeping everyone safe, not expanding outwards to claim more space that we'll just have to recruit more people to patrol.

[ a sigh ] How limited is security's manpower? Do you need temporary volunteers?

[His response is immediate and a little bit brusque.]

We need permanent volunteers. A full-time staff. Are you putting yourself forward?

Guess you're runnin' security right now.

[Which is not actually a jab, despite the wording. He's not sure what's up with Tyke or where she is.]

[And Edgeworth's response is extremely emphatic.]

No. Tyke is. It's her detail. She's simply too busy at the moment to do large announcements, so she delegated to me.

To expand what we hold, rather than simply to patrol? I should think at least another ten members of security. The central question, however, is whether we would want to.

...As secure as they would be for any small city patrolled by a small police force. The perimeters are not secured by any significant defenses such as barbed wire or the like; we only patrol the amount we're confident we can hold.

[ a) Shale is dead. Maker's breath, after the Blight, after the Civil War, you can't just survive that, be a war hero and eventually get killed by monsters and gravity. That's not how that works. They've never been close, and they had their fair share of jabs, but you can't shed blood with a person and not feel at least a degree of affection for them. ]

[ b) A little kid is dead. He didn't know who that kid was, but still. A little kid that will never know the trials of puberty and falling in love and getting married, eaten by monsters like she was just bloody fresh meat to them. He'll never get used to this, no matter how many times he's seen it. ]

[ He's rubbing his forehead as he responds to this, letting out a huge sigh. ]

Look, I'll... do my best to help. However I can.

I have a few friends that know how to fight. Should I ask them if they want to volunteer?

[There's just a brief, faint moment of surprise. It's not that Edgeworth thought that Alistair was incapable of being serious; he simply assumed that he'd never allow himself to be seen being serious. Still:]

[Edgeworth speaks quietly in his turn.]

The matter is still under investigation, but her wounds seem consistent with such a conclusion.

[But immediately he shakes his head, because he doubts very much that Kirk is in the mood for cheerless compliments. He substitutes in instead:]

[Edgeworth looks up from his communications device, blinking almost sleepily. So focused was he on his speech that he almost forgot the world around him.]

Ah -

[And then he greets Stilinski with a small nod, accepting the cup of coffee. He usually drinks tea, but the gesture is so kind that he'd never turn such a thing down.]

Yes. And - thank you.

[He lifts the cup to his lips and takes a small sip.]

I just wish that I'd made it earlier.

[A slightly constipated look crosses Edgeworth's face, because, well...The last time he spoke with Dean, he was in sort of an odd state, and he did sort of embarrass himself. Or maybe...come across full-on crazy.

As per your request [demand] made in lieu of recent events, I am here to inform you that Master Garrett and I shall be heading a scouting party. For my part, I intend to seek out the location at which the creatures have been hiding, and their numbers, to better determine the current level of threat they would pose, with no intention to engage in combat unless it becomes necessary.

[brief pause, though not out of hesitation.] ..If there are further procedures to follow, I would hear of them.

[She's shaken, she really is, but she's already gotten a message from Mike and that helped her keep her head on straight, because now she can't let herself be shaken; she has a puppy under her wing. And here is another puppy and she finds it more than a little sad that he's taking on these duties and she's already more than a little fond of him.

So her voice is mostly steady.]

[Her laugh here? A little less steady, but she's holding strong.]

Horror movies 101, huh. You'd think it'd be common sense...But I guess the genre has to exist somehow.

[Oh, Donna. He does hear that very slight shakiness, and his sympathy kindles considerably; he doesn't know whether she's been thrown off by the mere fact of what happened or because she knew one of them, but regardless - to hear unsteadiness from her says far more than it would from someone else.]

I don't know that I've ever seen a horror movie, I'll confess, but I understand what you're saying. Still - I hope that this is not, in truth, like a horror film, for one must court danger to be in danger, whereas I understand in such films one has no control over what happens.
