004 ☀ video ☀ i miss you
[ Jaye's sitting in the Oxygen Gardens, tucked away in a back corner near some grasses. She's wearing a plaid mens shirt that she hasn't worn out in public before, watching a grasshopper that has landed on one of the leather wristbands she got in her locker this past jump. Unlike her previous network experience this month, she looks more subdued; she's been doing a lot of thinking lately. ]
Nobody knows for sure where people go when they disappear from here, do they? I mean, people say "home", but we don't... know.
[ She turns her wrist, watching the grasshopper. ] And we don't know what the fuck anyone's up to without us, either.
[ The insect hops away, out of sight, and Jaye follows it with her eyes for a moment before looking back at her network device. ] ... Right, well. [ She shakes her head, smiling -- anyone who knows her well enough or who is particularly good at reading expressions should be able to tell it's forced. ] I've got some fun questions now. Favorite animal back home and why? Animal you'd consider the most dangerous and why? [ Yes that is somehow a fun question. Danger is fun, right guys? ... Right? ] All you people who aren't from Earth, you should tell me about the animals you guys have. It'd be interesting to hear about the differences.
((ooc: If you want to have your character find her in the oxygen garden, feel free!))

Before I came here, I saw an Oliphaunt quite recently.

[ Oh this word confusion is going to be excellent. ]

At the time it seemed as big as a mountain as it passed us. From my Uncle's recollection of them, he wrote that they were between fifty and one hundred feet.
They also have six tusks instead of two. Their ears, as high as I could see them, were rather small.
video;
... Holy shit. What the hell did they eat?
video;
[ a small smile ]
It was quite a thing, for Hobbits from the Shire to witness something like an Oliphant stomping past. The very ground seemed to move.
video;
I'd guess. Holy crap. [ She sounds absolutely amazed. ]
video;
Not all trees are, certainly not! The Shire would look like a fortress if we had trees the size of Oliphants.
[ a thoughtful pause ]
Though I've heard from Sam that his cousin claims to have seen a giant tree near the Shire. There are rumors that there are trees that can actually speak and move, though I've never seen it.
video;
[ Jaye hums slightly, running a finger against a nearby leaf. ]
There are tree spirits, where I'm from. I'm not sure how many are left, and most people think they're fake -- but they exist.
video;
Yes, I am. The Shire was my home.
[ he blinks ]
That seems the way of it in Middle-earth. Some say that they are simply trees that are 'sleeping' and will someday wake and walk again.
video;
[ Maybe she shouldn't push, but... she does anyway. ]
Huh. I don't know that any of the trees themselves walk, but I know that if you cut down one that has a spirit, the spirit will die with it.
video;
[ quietly, tiredly: ]
I want to believe that I can return to my home.
[ he furrows his brows ]
I imagine it's the work of Men?
video;
[ And awkward let's talk about the rest of it which... is confusing. ]
What is?
video;
Well, I don't imagine you have Orcs or Goblins where you are from, so I imagine the cutting of trees is caused by the Big Folk?

[ For one coyote in particular, actually. ]

Haven't really heard the term 'canine', before, Ms.Jaye.
video;
Oh -- canines are dog-like animals. Dogs, wolves, coyotes, foxes, dingos, and so on.
