[ Jaye's sitting in the Oxygen Gardens, tucked away in a back corner near some grasses. She's wearing a plaid mens shirt that she hasn't worn out in public before, watching a grasshopper that has landed on one of the leather wristbands she got in her locker this past jump. Unlike her previous network experience this month, she looks more subdued; she's been doing a lot of thinking lately. ]

Nobody knows for sure where people go when they disappear from here, do they? I mean, people say "home", but we don't... know.

[ She turns her wrist, watching the grasshopper. ] And we don't know what the fuck anyone's up to without us, either.

[ The insect hops away, out of sight, and Jaye follows it with her eyes for a moment before looking back at her network device. ] ... Right, well. [ She shakes her head, smiling -- anyone who knows her well enough or who is particularly good at reading expressions should be able to tell it's forced. ] I've got some fun questions now. Favorite animal back home and why? Animal you'd consider the most dangerous and why? [ Yes that is somehow a fun question. Danger is fun, right guys? ... Right? ] All you people who aren't from Earth, you should tell me about the animals you guys have. It'd be interesting to hear about the differences.

Well, I don't imagine you have Orcs or Goblins where you are from, so I imagine the cutting of trees is caused by the Big Folk?

Well, we might, but we don't exactly see a lot of them. But yeah, it's people who cut down the trees -- for all sorts of reasons.

And what of you? What's your favorite?

All of them, really, but... I've got a fondness for coyotes.

[ For one coyote in particular, actually. ]

What is a coyote?

It's a type of canine -- smaller than a wolf. They're only found in North and Central America.

Wolves are already large to us, and that's excluding the direwolves on the Ship, so it must be a very small doglike thing, if you include those in your description.

Not very small, and they look more like wolves than dogs. But smaller.

Oh -- canines are dog-like animals. Dogs, wolves, coyotes, foxes, dingos, and so on.

I see. Perhaps we have more animals in common than I first believed. Are you from the world 'Earth' I've heard spoken around?

Yeah, I'm from Earth. One of the versions of it, anyway.

I see. There are..quite a lot of versions, aren't there? This one seems rather common.

Yeah, from the sound of things. Some of them are harder to tell apart than others.

I don't suppose we'll ever truly understand this situation, will we?

There are some things people aren't meant to understand. It fucking sucks, but maybe this won't be one of them.

[ quietly. this big person always seemed so lively but she doesn't seem that way now. ]
Are you alright?

[ There's a slight laugh, bitter and tired, and a hand goes to toy with one of the leather wristbands. ] Well, I'm stuck in space. So that sucks.

[ She sighs. ] Dunno. Haven't seen Cali in a while, so I might be.

Are there none here you've made allies from?
[ getting more concerned. all these young big folk. :( ]

A few. But they disappear too.

[ And they're not Coyote, not Kane, not Dominic, and not her brother. She misses them -- she's used to missing Scott, but now there are four of them to miss. Five even, the ship having slipped her something of Kieran's as well as something from each of the others. Her boys, to protect and to bother, and none of them here. ]

Still, I don't believe you are alone. There are others without those from home.

I'm not bothered by being alone. [ It's not having a choice, the loss, that bothers her. ]
