Guessing everyone's feeling a little closer to compos mentis now. Great, that's gonna make this a whole lot easier.

My name is Nathan Petrelli. I'm Senator for New York, elected representative of the people, and recently made Head of Homeland Security by the President himself. It's my job to do what's in the best interests of the people, and in this case I figure that's gonna be easier said than done.

I don't want any of you to worry. Once I get up to speed on the details of what's going on here, I intend to get to the bottom of how we got here, why we were brought here, and how to go about getting back. And I mean how and why, not the bullshit they've been feeding you about jumping and wormholes and the ship needing a crew. There's a malicious intent here I'm gonna address, and then I'm getting everyone back where we belong.

I realise we're not all Americans here, and maybe you think I have no jurisdiction, but I earned the right to intervene the moment I woke up with a tube shoved down my throat, just like everyone else. I want to speak to people who know the most about this place, or be directed toward them. Captain Kirk: you're on my list for starters, but I'd rather speak to the real Captain, rather than some washed up wannabe.

Oh, and before I wrap this up, there's one other thing. A few of you will have spoken to my brother, Peter; he got here during the 'jump' previous to this one, and as I understand it he's been pretty liberal with his imagination ever since. Some time ago my brother convinced himself that he could fly. He stood on top of a twelve story building one day, called me up and told me he was going to show me he could do it. He jumped, and he fell - fortunately only as far as the fire escape - and a couple days later woke up in the hospital with minor injuries. It wasn't long after my father's death, right in the middle of my run for Congress, and I guess he was desperate for attention.

What I'm trying to say is that he's had brushes with depression before - it runs in the family - and he's not exactly stable right now. All of this doesn't make it any easier. If everyone could please be delicate with him, take what he says with a grain of salt, and inform me if it sounds like he's planning to do something that might hurt himself or others. I appreciate it.

Egocentricity is a hazard of the job that I'm not gonna apologise for. So long as I'm not forgetting my responsibilities to other people, I'm still capable of doing my job. You know what else is a hazard of becoming a politician? Not being liked. So forgive me if I'm not that fussed.

[ And the way Nathan carries himself. At the core of it, Sherlock is reminded of Mycroft. From the brother that took the fall to the presumption of governance. It unsettles him. Nathan makes him uneasy down to every last aspect of the belief that the end justifies the means. Sherlock believes in process and never cares about result. The fact that Kirk is a friend (not that he'd ever care to admit that) and nearly a close one at that strikes a chord. He wishes he were more subjective but this was all personal. all sentiment. This is the real reason why he can't de-anon. ]

And is research a hazard?
The Tranquility would fall without Kirk. If you'd bothered to ask.
It's never been a question of likability. That's hardly an advantage.
It's the fact you're not going about this well enough that makes it moronic.
Honestly, between all the claims at ship leadership this is the worst I've seen.
And, I've dealt with someone who's claim at rulership was because
he had 'blood of the dragon' and it was his 'birthright'.

How the Americans elected you for anything is boggling.

[ Kirk is as imaginary as you are, Sherlock, while he's at it. If only he knew who you were, because he's going to call you later all oblivious about this conversation. Sigh sigh.

The problem is he is like Mycroft politically, only he's also a supporter of the Bush administration, and would sell out his own family members down to literally drugging them and locking them away for an undisclosed amount of time. Or idk leaving them in a burning building to die. Mycroft's an asshole but he's not that much of an asshole. ]

I don't want to lead this ship. I want to find a way to get home, and I figure that's better done with more than just me trying to get it done.

And that last bit's just an aspersion on my character. Shame on you.

[ God knows Sherlock's not gonna get caught having things like feelings and sentiment. Because what is a proper emotional flow really. Nathan could probably figure it out. Sherlock texts often and he didn't bother trying to mask the typing style. whoops. ]

Clearly, we've had six months of utter incompetence
that your presence magically solves. The few days you've been here
have truly been revolutionary.

I could give you a psychological profile to prove my point if you fancied it.

I'm saying you don't have a damn clue what I had to go through to win or keep my seat in Congress, or my reasons for going into politics in the first place.

I never said anyone was incompetent, and you're putting words into my mouth. Pretty sure that says something about your psych profile, but I'm a lawyer, not a doctor.
