[ The camera is met with an angry-looking Kate, one angle of her jaw flexing as teeth clench. Her forearms are folded on the tabletop in front of her and she leans her weight onto them. The way she launches right in gives the impression she's been holding back this bad mood for a while before giving in. ]

Okay, so first of all, whoever stole my bow at the jump: bring it back. It's a cheap piece of crap anyway and it's not like we have arrows laying around but it's the only one I have here and there aren't any more in the armory and it's not exactly an inconspicuous weapon so what are you even going to do with it without me finding you?? Seriously, just bring it back before you damage it somehow and I promise I won't hit you with it no matter how tempted I am.

And speaking of people around here being total assholes [ Because whatever, she's started now and trying to make her no-hitting promise sincere just has the frustration shunting off into another topic, ], is someone turning people into animals seriously allowed now? That's just a thing we're cool with, going to let that slide on by, no brig time involved? [ She's not generally a very animated speaker but her hands twist off the table into the air into a 'seriously?' gesture. ] FYI never annoy this Gold guy because I guess he can just turn you into a cat if he feels like it and nobody will ever do anything. If I disappear after posting this be on the look-out for new pets wandering around or something. On second thought maybe that'd be a nice change from this place's bullshit for a while. Gold, if you're watching, just make it a dog or a bird or something, alright? Cool.

[ It's hard to make a dramatic exit on a touch-screen device but she pushes the STOP button as abruptly as she can anyway. Hawkeye out. Nope, wait, spoke too soon. It starts up again after a second just long enough for her to shout: ]

And bring me back my god damn bow!

I wouldn't be so quick to assume Shepard's invested in the strength of our virtue, love.

[ Gently amused, and said as much in regards to himself as last month's crew. A guy with rats and a guy who carries blood bags around don't exactly scream "righteous". ] What about you? Keen to play hero?

[ Killian?? Kate manages to hide the surprise at that one, just a slight wobble about the brows and quickly smoothed away though she does remark, ]

[ Kate makes a head-tipping gesture of admission. Fair point. ] Virtue's probably not the word. But I assume she wouldn't hand a team to someone she thinks is just as likely to stab us all in the backs, either.

[ As for herself, she lifts a shoulder and a brow. ] Play? No. It's what I do.

We've somehow managed not to offend Hook-- Killian [ she makes a face and gesture that simultaneously ask 'what??' and answers 'I don't knoooow' ], despite my best efforts, so I have a feeling we might just make it.

I have faith in us. Let me correct that. I have faith in our ability to use sarcasm as a weapon. I'm sure this will go great. Have you done this before, by the way? [ She shakes her head. ] Not, you know, introducing yourself to a team member by gossiping about them on a public forum. The team thing, here on the ship.

Thankfully, my answers are yes, no, and yes. I did it last month with a different team. Brad and William and Snape was our comms guy.

Oh, I know him. [ Snape, she means, but doesn't elaborate, too busy jumping to the next line of thought. ] What was it like?

[ That earns a deeply unsure look, if only because he's gotten so much fashion advice since showing up on this damn ship that he's starting to develop a complex. Another short pause, and then the unsure expression gives way to exaggerated (and totally faked) innocence. ]

And hats and mustaches— they'd be considered "hot", I take it?

[ Mocking the gossip or fishing for compliments for himself and/or whatever weird counterpart they were discussing, either or. ]

It was pretty weird? We counted eight days but it had been thirteen when we got back. It felt like we were walking downhill all the time even though we weren't. There were bottomless pits with bloody drag marks leading to them. Some creepy cult murderer style murals. Half the time it felt like we were being watched or followed, but you could never quite catch a glimpse of who was doing it.

But nobody got attacked or hurt at all, so I guess it was better than I expected?

[ It's a little disarming to have to process that kind of a declaration while you're on camera, but Claire manages to remain impassive and thoughtful. At the very least, she doesn't seem scared at all; if anything, there's a quickening of excitement under her skin. ]

Have you ever heard of House of Leaves?

Yes. [ Wait. ] I mean they aren't mutually exclusive. It would depend on several other factors, which I am so not prepared to get into.

[ She is very clearly and professionally making an idiot of herself, which, really, isn't that strange. Claire can remember a time when she wasn't so awkward. Those were the days. ]

Can we start over? I'm Claire Bennet. I'll be your comms liaison, which I'm sure you're thrilled about following this conversation.

[ And she didn't even mention the black hole. ]

It's a book, right? I haven't gotten a chance to do much reading lately but it sounds familiar.

I'm thrilled. [ And super helpful, thanks Kate for this important interruption in their introductions. ] Hat and mustache is more sort of the classic pirate captain look in most fiction, that's all we meant. Personally I'm going to go with not hot, but opinions may vary.

[ She couldn't handle dinosaurs and black holes in one conversation. It's better this way. ]

Yeah. It's a creepy, weird book. Interesting and cool but kind of hard to get through, since half of it reads like a research paper. Anyway, there is this house that has dimensions that don't make sense, and there ends up being this huge labyrinth in the house with some kind of monster in the center of it or something. I couldn't finish it, but what you said kind of reminds me of that. Sort of pointless but still kind of interesting.

Yeah, I can totally see the similarities there. There's definitely something dimensional going on here. And people who've been here a while talk about monsters called manticores that attack people in the halls, but it doesn't sound like anyone's seen one in a while. Too bad you didn't finish that book, maybe it would've had an idea for how to get out of here.

[ It's more than half a joke, but she changes the subject abruptly anyway. ]

So hey, where are you from? I don't suppose there's any chance we're from the same world.

[ Claire just sort of treads water. Help. ]

That's what it is, yeah. Classic pirate look. [ Squint. ] Are you really a pirate?

[ She's not sure who she's even talking to anymore. ]

[ Claire shrugs in a somewhat self-conscious way, admitting agreement and futility all at once. She'd be thrilled if they could figure something out. ]

Originally? Texas. Most recently? I went to college in Arlington, Virginia, but I've sort of bounced around from coast to coast over the last couple of years. What about you?

New York. I lived in LA for a while recently and then was kind of... [ her pause is sort of clearly a debate about how much of a complicated story to tell; she goes with the vague option for the moment ] all over the place before I ended up here. But New York's my home.

You don't have the Avengers in your world, do you?

Oh, so he's the one I have t' thank for that.

[Or maybe steer clear of, because whatever magic turns a werewolf and a vampire into two little mewling kittens is not something to get tangled up in.

No, you're right, it is pretty funny. I'm sorry I missed it, to be honest. But it could've easily been a lot worse, and then we'd all be like 'wow, I wish we'd known that guy was dangerous sooner'. So. Now people know. [ She is just not going to answer that last question lalala ]

He's-- dangerous, or he was bored? Or are your friends allergic to cats, 'cause then I'd see where danger comes in to it...
