Don't fight!!

Don't fight each other, there are real monsters to fight--don't fight pirates! Pirates, please don't fight, too! --why are we all not getting along? There are scary things we can stop together; we can give each other stuff. We can be really smart and not hurt each other!

[Huff--this is hopeless, but he hates how scared or angry people are. And if not those two, then too willing to fight people who could have easily been with them.

Hitting someone who hurts your friends, he gets. Hitting a monster, he gets.

But--when did it end up where you're enemies just because?]

I saw some of the pirates. They talked to me before. They talked to you, too! Some might be bad, but maybe they're not bad; maybe they're just playing the game, and they're scared of losing. They're just trying to get their points so they don't die. [What, that makes total sense. To him it does, anyway.]

I--maybe I can talk to them. Maybe we can talk and make this better. People're getting hurt.

And stealing is wrong. Stop stealing from us! Stop shooting stuff! Why're we fighting if we don't got any reason to fight? We're not monsters. Nobody's monsters. Why are we fighting when we're all not monsters??

[He is. Having a really hard time fighting between that part of him that is screaming that his childhood wasn't any better, and the part that wants to scoop Takeshi up and protect him from everything that could conceivably be a threat
and that part that says that if Takeshi is worth a damned thing, that he'll be able to live through this just fine. That he'll come out on top and he'll come out worthy as one of Japan's, that thread of steel -
He's having a really hard time separating Japan from Japanese and a kid from a fucked up world from one of their own. All he knows is that he wants to see the booger.]

[And who should appear but this guy on a bike. First thing he does is dismount and go to one knee, check the little booger over just in case.]

But no, Takeshi's just blinking at him as he checks him over, looking totally okay and a little confused; Netherlands, don't feel bad about being so tall. He's okay with being short, for now. He'll grow up sooner or later.]

[Sadly his bicycle on the ship does not have a bell :c

Check finished, he taps his fingers across the top of his knee and stays where he is, even if he's resisting the urge to just scoop Takeshi up. He shakes his head.]

Not yet. Been down here the whole time.

Working hard?

[He nods approvingly, before the question's even answered. Mr. Ned likes to work a lot.]

[It probably says too many things about his life that not only the question - good question - but the assuming response to it - hell yeah - gets a wide, conspiratorial grin before he even thinks of an answer. But even if he bothered to try to keep the grin away it'd be obvious, and it colors his voice, just how very pleased he is.]

'Course, kiddo. Things go bad when y'don't work hard.

[That's not even trying to sway Takeshi, or preachy, or any of that shit - it's basically his entire life philosophy and it's said with all of the conviction that entails.]

[He nods again, strong and sure and sturdy. Being around Netherlands has made him savvy to what makes the country tick--and this is just one of those completely obvious things. Spend 5 minutes in the gardens with him, see what happens.]
