his communicator then and fumbles a bit trying to catch it. you can probably see the most bewildered look on his face because he didn't actually expect... that.

okay sure, harvey not giving a shit at home isn't really life-threatening while harvey not giving a shit here might actually cost mike his life yeah-- but the point is. the point is he still didn't really expect it. ]

We don't-- erk.

[ straightening up with the device ]

We don't know that yet. Everyone seems pretty... unscathed so far. Perhaps not mentally so but-- they have a system. They're organized enough to get people into the jump thingy before anything happens so...? I don't really see why it's-- I don't know, weird to suddenly just. Not do that. It's not us versus them, it's us with them versus everything else.

[ and that little tangent was of course accompanied by odd hand gestures here and there to emphasize his point. follow the crowd, harvey. that's what he's saying. because they're still alive and you just got here. ]

They're surviving, sure. There's no doubt about that.

[What do you take him for? He looks very offended.]

But we're not just going to survive, we're going to turn this into a fighting chance to live.

[Harvey grows quiet, contemplative in his silence.]

I'm not talking about disrupting the system, I'm talking about making it so that we can live properly. As you said, no way out. Might as well prepare for all eventualities.

[Harvey's gaze turns hard and he's glaring, actually glaring at Mike now.]

Down boy, you're gotten the wrong end of the stick here. I'm not talking about hijacking the goddamn ship here.

[His voice is stern, and he has tried being patient with you and now he's just going to wait until you make a mess all over the floor and come running to him again. Harvey at the end of the day, is preparing for all eventualities.]

What the hell are you going to wait for? I want all my bases covered in the event of all eventualities. You don't go to court unprepared, it's the same concept here. You don't face the unknown reaches of space unprepared either!

[In his mind, he can tell that their mortality rate has been greatly upped compared to New York. Sure the chance of a cab running you down or being mugged in a wrong neighbourhood is there but you can avoid those. He can't work out how much you can avoid things that can kill you here, and the thing that he's not letting on - the reason why he's more angry than he'd care to admit is because Mike is a bleeding heart who can't help himself. His sense of danger isn't finely honed as Harvey's, who after years of blood and toil, has a keen taste for it. Or maybe it is, but the difference is that Harvey can take that sense and extrapolate for it. Mike could die and he really does not want to think about that if he can't help it.]

[ whoa that kind of makes him reel back a bit and he frowns, expression kind of. falling. and he goes quiet, sort of confused too. he leans back against the wall of his room, sitting with his knees drawn up and the comm in his lap as he holds it. now he's trying to puzzle out where harvey's coming from, figure out this whole thing, but no no, harvey getting mad has kind of made some of his pushed down panic swell and well. now he's not entirely sure what to think. ]

I'm not-- I'm not waiting. I just... don't see why we need to... I dunno, batten down the hatches. There's a system here and it works? [ a pause ] I think you're overreacting and I don't want to do anything before I figure out how things usually run here. [ which means wait and watch because nothing's coming out of the dark, right? so he doesn't need to ... get a gun which, okay, he knows the logical reason for it but it still sort of freaks him out regardless. ] I read the information post and it didn't say we needed to do anything like arm ourselves for no reason. It's a community, a pretty peaceful one at that -- even if the ship itself seems pretty... dangerous. So... I'm not going to do that. [ a shrug and he clears his throat ] Yeah, I'm going to do my own thing and I'll wait until you chill out before I do what you want me to. Alright?

[lawyer]

Fine.

[Harvey's just going to shrug and lean back in his seat. He'll let Mike do what he wants. Loosen the leash, if you will. Let his puppy run wild for a bit. See where that gets him. Harvey knows he's going to rescue him in the end anyway.]

[ he freezes, looking at harvey through the screen in bewilderment. ]

... Fine?

[ pardon the disbelief, boss ]

[lawyer]

Are you hard of hearing now? I said it was fine.

[ . . . ]

Really?

[ he basically just said he's not going to listen to you for an indefinite period of time. so, he kind of expected more backlash for it. ]

[lawyer]

[Harvey's ending the conversation here and hanging up because he's not in the mood to repeat himself a third time. Mike knows where he is if he wants to find him anyway.]
