[ Hello, have your new 010 » 111 pop up on the network. The video turns on to show someone obviously in their room. He's sitting on the bed and he has the comm resting in his hands on his lap, it's facing him -- even if it's a little off center. His fingers run over the buttons on the device and he clears his throat, ready to speak at the indication that the video is recording.

And yet, the video is upside down. ]

Just a friendly reminder to whoever is in charge that, if you are in fact going to abduct someone from their work and home into outer space -- you might want to reconsider picking a blind man. For one, stars? Completely wasted on me.

[ A slight quirk of his lips up at that. ]

And to... any friendly listeners out there, a brief rundown of this place from someone who isn't a native would be exceptional. I'm sure there's a welcome sign around here but, well, [ He tilts his head just a bit and shrugs lightly. ]

I think that covers it. Nice to meet you, I'm sure you're all very pretty.

[ And then he grins and hangs up. ]

Ever get arrested?

[He gets the feeling you're not as clean as you seem, and maybe it's because Isaac himself has been arrested before, or because of the varying levels of exposure to local authority that he's had, but either way he thinks he can tell when people aren't what they seem.

Maybe he's getting better at sniffing people out.

[ Oh, you're funny, Isaac. He just smiles. ]

Now why would I tell you that?

[ THIS ONE TIME HE HAD A GIRLFRIEND. SHE WAS A RUSSIAN TERRORIST HACKER. SHE'S WANTED BY THE US GOVERNMENT, HER GOVERNMENT, OTHER GOVERNMENTS, AND THE MAFIA.

[Even if he's getting the feeling he's being allowed this one, hey, whatever, he's no Erica or Boyd, and he's definitely no Stiles or Lydia.

[ He shrugs a little and reaches over with one hand to pat the bed next to him till he grabs this and holds it up. ]

[ Isaac looks at it - then he goes quiet. Really quiet, like the line's cut off, but he's still there. ]

I know someone back home who had epilepsy. [Apropos to nothing, right?] People looked at her different.

[ ... What. He kind of furrows his brows at that. You're lucky people do this to him all the time, Isaac. Auggie listens to everyone. ]

She probably felt awful about that a lot. What are you, 16? 17? High school's hard already without that.

[ He doesn't mean to, okay. But you and your fancy keyboard reminds him of Erica and the few times he'd seen her bring her meds to school and plain refused to be embarrassed about it, and he's really missing the rest of his pack a whole damn lot he might actually start whining like a pup.]

I'm sixteen. Should be seventeen soon, but I don't know what the date is.

...You can tell me to shut up, you know. I wouldn't mind.

[ He gives a snort and shakes his head. If Isaac does start whining though, it's not like Auggie'd make fun of him. ]

[ Bring on the dog jokes, he'd say. But no, in seriousness, conversations with adults are never this easy for Isaac. Something has to be wrong somewhere. ]

[ Shruuugs. He'd have definitely brushed you off if you were an idiot. Usually he'd have made a joke in a reply to Isaac's question but the truth seems like something Isaac wants/needs right now. ]

[ Guess what's going to tail you now. There's a saying about throwing dogs a bone, maybe that applies here too. Nice people are like unicorns to werewolves, Isaac guesses.

[ oh this is the best. Auggie has a feeling that Isaac might have a very complicated life back home. ]

[ He smiles. ]

Feel free to take that as open invitation to talk my ear off, Isaac.

[That feeling wouldn't be wrong. We all have something that tries to define us, and for Isaac, it's this. ]

I don't think I have enough to talk about to manage that.

[ He laughs at that. ]

That's the point of an open invitation.

[That lady was right; if you knew how to use the internet, then the phone things were pretty easy to get the hang of. Which is why there's a private line here - not because he's ashamed of this, it's not like everybody back home doesn't already about it (Derek certainly knows, he probably cares) - but at least he can keep it out of other people's eyes a bit.

My brother came back in a box on his first tour out. Iraq, I think, but he just up and left, so.

[ Thaaankfully, it switches his end to locked too. The grin on his face kind of disappears completely for once. ]

... I lost my sight in Iraq, Isaac. I can understand.

[ His whole unit was killed and he survived, with only his sight gone. ]

Sorry. I'm sorry, that was out of line.

[ Aw, kid, you're tugging at his heart strings. He usually wouldn't say this much to a stranger but the guy seems honest as a tack and Auggie's sure he's not stupid enough to say this stuff in public. Or brave enough. Which is why he's assuming that the tiny beep he heard a moment ago was perhaps, the feed being locked. ]

I can't say I knew him. If he was PFC, he wasn't where I was stationed. I was the captain of a unit. [ A pause before he adds. ] Special ops.

[ And well, you know what that means. Highly skilled here. He figures it's safe enough to tell Isaac, it's not like he can automatically track Auggie back to the CIA through just that. Hell, for all his records show -- he served in the military, was discharged after an incident, and came home and went quiet.

(This is him justifying saying this much. Koan would still kill him regardless. Sigh his sympathy for people.) ]

[ Isaac doesn't cry. Not that he can't, but he's pretty much done all his crying the night his dad died, and that was that. But he gets quiet, like Mr. Lahey taught him to be, and because with the werewolf hearing every single sound is sharp and his heartbeat's deafening at this distance.

Camden never came back. Erica and Boyd might never come back, either.

He just wishes someone would stay, sometimes.

Isaac starts nodding, until he remembers Auggie is blind, so he coughs a little wetly. He can read between the lines, thank whatever damage taught him that. ]

[ Burying his brother in space - imagine that. ]

[ ~~THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY JOAN UP THERE~~ He just nods and sits back a little. ]

[~~It's cool, I didn't even notice!~~ He's clearing his throat, okay, he's not sad at all.]

Everyone else either wants to call him a hero or not talk about it at all.

[ He sighs a little. ]

[ He didn't pick you because you're blind - if he was aiming for something completely self-serving he'd tell Scott, who is mentally challenged and blind.

[ A smile. He wouldn't, it's true. This happens a lot, people need to get something off their chest. They bottle it up and bottle it up and bottle it up and sometimes they meet Auggie and it just comes out. Happened with Annie too. ]

[ Maybe one day Auggie can do the same thing to Derek, and then— well, Derek wouldn't feel less guilty, but at least he wouldn't be so pent-up with non-emotions all the time.

[ A beat. ]
