So, look, I get everybody's all jazzed about that list or whatever, and people wanna do the mourning thing. All good, have at it.

What I'm wondering though, is what we got working to find out who helped the dead dude get that way. Still pretty new around here so I don't know what you got rigged up already, but where I'm from something like this happens we mount up before there's a dead guy number two.

But your first and foremost debt is to the state. I know that, at times, it might feel as though our actions are of "world-saving" consequence, but you still have a responsibility.

A demon blocked out the sun and vamps were running wild. A trust me, even with I was down staying in jail. Kind of a waste to sign up and bail, you know? Let somebody else save the world.

So they've powers. What of it? Power does not give one moral imperative, nor the right to decide what is right and what is wrong.

Dude, you got a listening problem. And this is me saying that.

I do not. You say you escaped from prison because it was your responsibility, because this was some onus placed upon you by these powers whom you identify as gods. Yet if power is what they have, and that is all that distinguishes them, then why do they have the right to choose what people do? What gives them the authority to dictate who can escape from prison and who must serve time - who saves the world and who stays at home?

Like I said, listening problem. [ but the longer faith goes without exploding, the less likely she is to end up there. she sounds annoyed, but less intense than earlier. ] You really don't get where I'm from, but whatever.

I didn't bust out because the Powers said so, dumbass. [ not actually an insult by her intent, but she really doesn't do diplomatic. ] I told Wes to let somebody else save the world. I had a decent deal in prison, you know? Four walls, roof over my head, guaranteed meals. I even racked up good behavior.

[ there's a pause here, filled with rustling sounds as faith rummages around for her (sadly, last) pack of cigarettes. ] Really should've listened when that dude said to quit smoking like we were gonna find a 7-11 to restock at.

[ and now the snick of a lighter, because she's apparently going to explain this a little-- two people who can't let things go end up circling around to finally just talking about what's really at stake, if one of those people is faith; good to know-- and like hell is she doing it without a smoke. ]

Anyway. Like I said, I owed somebody a life. He's the reason I busted out, not some destiny thing. World's got plenty of heroes, they can spare somebody like me on the sidelines.
