[ This time, Erik chooses to don the helmet, which he hasn't worn since his first few weeks aboard the Tranquility, preferring to leave it at his side while his paranoia was temporarily allayed. Unfortunately, those particular events seemed to have flared up his need to renew his helmet use, more so thanks to a series of seemingly unrelated events, starting with Edgeworth's survey, and rounding it out with Tony's latest post. It's not a particular frightening stance, given that Erik is still brooding around in one of the libraries where he's making this broadcast, pacing back and forth as he considers the next move to make, hands behind his back. ]

There's been enough announcements over threats and supposed attempts at cooperation. While I find flaws to that philosophy, [ Sorry, Charles. ] it seems no matter what, we will constantly be tested while we're imprisoned.

[ Because as comforting as the quarters and the kitchens can be, Erik's near constant restlessness brought back distinct memories of a prison, one he was never inclined to ignore. ]

There's already been another death, and it goes without saying, some sort of unity is preferred. However, holding hands gets one nowhere. [ Sorry, Eridan. ] Cooperation is one thing, but a more active stance is necessary to prevent any further casualties or threats.

[ Erik pauses in midstep for a moment, turning his attention back to the camera. ]

Sitting passively by solves nothing. Actions are needed. The best defense here is in the form of an even better offense.

We can't escape one by one; but we can as a whole. I'll extend my hand as an offer of preparation. We need to be prepared; we need to be ready. [ Pause for dramatic effect. ] The question is, are you?

Less cajoling, more "helping", wouldn't you say?

[ It's a nod back to their conversation the day Erik shoved Sean off the satellite dish. He doesn't trust his encryptions, nor does Erik quite prefer communicating over these, however much everyone else might. With Charles, face to face conversations have always done best. ]

[ ooc: As stated, Erik is in the library and as such, action is totally okay with me! ]

[Edgeworth frowns to himself.]

Define "action."

Right.

[And Edgeworth's voice is suddenly quite tense.]

And against whom are you proposing retaliation?

'The question is, are you?' [ using her best movie announcer voice. ] I'm just used to a lot more 'hey, man, maybe we should' type communication.

[ imperceptible pause on her end because this lying crap is a lot less instinctive than it is really hard. ]

Pretty okay, actually. You know, all things considered. You?

[What you think that Eridan doesn't want to just beat things up until they go his way???

You're wrong he totally wants to be active. Unfortunately the last time he tried being active, he got his ass handed to him by a friend and then by a puppet. So...]

Wwhat, exactly, are you proposin' wwith this speech? Because it all sounds sorta vvague.

Right. So I'll get to punching the port side, shall I, and you the starboard side? Or would you sooner take the aft?

[He shakes his head.]

I don't see how we even can retaliate.

Sir.

[ Chase has disliked Erik. She's been polite, but her loyalty lies with Kirk and Starfleet. This speech, however... ]

Sir, I was ready the moment I stepped out of the tube.

[ It may be changing her opinion of him. ]

[ Alayne watches Erik's announcement to the Network but rather than reply, she makes note of his surroundings — some place in the libraries, though she's not terribly familiar. Rather than wander the stacks, however, she brings with her the gift he'd given her: a small mockingbird fashioned out of metal. Alayne offers this to Lady to sniff once they are free of the lift, telling her softly: Find Erik, Lady.

And so, Lady does, and after a short while, both animal and master come across him as he finishes a transmission to someone else over the devices. Alayne tries not to pay attention (it would be rude to eavesdrop, even though father would tell her it would be to her advantage) but she catches the last of his words just as she rounds the corner to bow.

... that would be a threat to everyone.

Alayne clears her throat and then curtseys.
] Pardon— Erik?

[But that means he has to be open and honest about himself....]

Yeah, but wwhat do wwe do to stop that shit from happenin'? Start manually corrallin' people into safe zones durin' jumps an' risky situations? Go an' beat up the captain an' his first mate until they admit they don't knoww shit?

I'm all for that one, by the wway.

Bossy.

[This is not David. Libby has been paying attention, though. She knows people look like other people here. (Larkspur, Larkspur--she knows twins--you look just like--)]

But I agree. What's the plan?

As long as you don't expect me to get up and pull a Churchill, you're probably headed the right way.

[ jenna will say one thing for klaus-- sheer terror about him has eclipsed the terror around the ship itself. it makes part of life easier to handle. ]

Not exactly a rousing testimony of mental health and happiness, but I'm grading on a curve. [ she laughs quietly. ] Okay, tell me the truth. Do you script them all out first, or is it off the cuff?

[ She bows again (as is her manner) when he greets her by name. There is part of her that feels disingenuous, knowing that he is both Magneto and Erik when he still only knows her as Alayne, but she knows that her reasons are different from hers and hopes that — perhaps, if he knew her circumstance — he would understand the deception. Lady pads off to sniff her way around some of consoles and chairs, having never been to this place to ship. Alayne lets her, moving to Erik's side instead, her smile small but the concern still obvious in her expression.

She gives a single sideways glance to his helmet, though she makes no mention of it.
]

I heard your words to the ship. I— I wanted to see you. To ask if you are well.

[ It's not the only reason she's here, so it's not the total truth, but the words themselves are not a lie either. She is always grateful to see him, though the circumstances are worrying. ]

And what would we prepare for? I don't quibble with your notion of ensuring that we are prepared. But unless somehow the ship manages to pull Cassandra herself onboard, I don't particularly know how we can anticipate that the next wave of difficulty will be, say, a malfunction that limits the amount of oxygen available.
