002 | Video | In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth

[ The video screen shows a little girl of about 11 with shoulder length brown hair. You've probably seen her reading a battered book, maybe waiting by the blue lift or following Robert Capa around (and occasionally even holding his hand). She's wearing the standard uniform, but right now? Right now she's more than a little spooked. ]

Anyone who's listening, this ship...

[ She's been exploring. And maybe a bit of the panic is because she's a little lost, too, and it shows on her face. ]

This ship. Something's not right. Something's going to happen but I don't know when or why--

[She closes her eyes, trying to breathe evenly. ]

Something is wrong.

Yeah, yeah, what isn't wrong about this place?

Calm the hell down, kid.

[ Capa looks concerned. For once. ]

Chase. What is it?

[She's also concerned.]

What's wrong? Are you all right?

HOLY SHIT IT'S THAT LITTLE KID.

Hey! HEY YOU. Are you alright--!? Where are you at? What's going on; what is going to happen??

_{[ don't worry, he easily panics. ]}

[ She doesn't have time to register that a wolf-tentatcle-jester-thing with a sword stuck in it is talking to her. ]

No, I mean--something bad. Worse. I can't put a finger on it, it--it's.. It's wrong.

I got it. A feeling, but.. A feeling. Something's going to happen and I don't know when or how or even what. But it makes my skin crawl and sweat and panic.

[ He shakes his head, smooths out his expression. When he speaks this time, his voice is even and calm — an attempt to appeal to her rational mind, even though he knows what she's experiencing is probably anything but. ]

Were you trying to see something — like before? [ He turns to glance over his shoulder. Capa's moving now, from one part of the room to the other. ] Where are you right now?

I'm--I'm okay, I'm just.. I just thought I felt something, or saw something, or...

[ she's trying to calm herself down now, fidgeting with the sleeve of her uniform ]

I didn't like it.

[ have one slightly worried - or more panicked - ariadne looking into the screen now. ] What do you mean - are you okay?

[Austria looks rather concerned; it's more for her than for the ship, because, hah, doesn't want to think about being helpless against a problem.]

Are you all right? Do you usually get premonitions like this?

[She frowns sharply.]

You thought? Or do you think it was really there?

[She doesn't know Chase well, but she doubts she would ever get worked up over nothing.]

Where are you?

[ YOUR PANICING IS NOT HELPING AMERICA. ]

I don't know, if I knew I'd share if with the class and I wouldn't be like this.

[ Her voice is harsh as she snaps at Capa, more out of panic then actual annoyance ]

I wasn't trying to do anything, I was just exploring.

[ And a pause, in a decidedly smaller voice ]

... I.... I don't know where I am. In front of a locked door...

I don't know.

[ It doesn't normally work like this, her 'powers,' and that's what's freaking her out a little more than where she was. ]

I was just exploring....

[ Have one alarmed child right back! She hasn't calmed down much, despite trying to. ]

I'm fine, no one's hurt. [ She doesn't want to say 'yet' yet. ] I just want to go home. This isn't right.

No.

[ Sorry for snapping at you, Austria. She's just a little scared. ]

I mean--no. I'm fine, I just.. I don't like this place.

IS IT ALIENS?
IS IT COMMUNISM?
IS SOMEBODY GOING TO GET STUCK IN A WELL??

HOLY SHIT; ARE PEOPLE GOING TO DIE?

_{[ he's not listening, obviously. ]}

[ He blinks when she snaps at him, but his face remains otherwise the same. Getting upset or acting surprised would only escalate the situation and so, his voice remains steady as does his expression. ]

Chase, [ he says again. ] It's best if you stay where you are right now while some of us come get you. The door you're in front of — are there any labels on it? Indicators?

[Yeah, it's... best not to question Jack's existence. It only gets weirder the more you think about it.

That gets him curious, though. Maybe he didn't inherit any of the Green Sun's omniscience, but he knows a thing or two about that kind of stuff.]

Wrong in what kind of way?

I don't--I don't want a rescue mission...

[ She's feeling a little sheepish now, looking around. Concentrating on how to get back is a lot easier then concentrating on that odd sense of foreboding. ]

It's never worked like this.

[ OH GOD OH GOD ]

what---Don't--Don't be ridiculous, the probability of something like that coming from a locked door...

[ OH GOD IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN ISN'T IT?! ]

What's going to keep you from getting more lost?

[ It's not a rhetorical question. He expects an answer and, if it's a reasonable one, Capa's willing to accept it and forgo the 'rescue'. ]

[Whoa nelly some little filly in distress. Big sister instincts kick in as Applejack responds to her distress.]

It's okay, kiddo, it's gonna be okay. Jus' calm down n' tell me where y'all are. Ah'll come getcha.

Hey, you're okay, all right? Where are you?

You can tell us all about whatever you found when you're settled. This isn't a ship you want to go exploring without a group.

[because that wasn't ominous at all.]

What the hell does that mean.
