Tranquility, this is Jim Kirk.

Anyone injured or still suffering side effects from the fear gas should check in with medical. Scans are showing the gas is out of the ship's circulation now, but we can never be too careful. For anyone wondering, we do have a suspect in custody, but he's currently recovering from a high dosage of the toxin.

[he pauses, a clear indication that he's changing topics.]

We all knew we were being watched. Despite this recent information, nothing's really changed. Nevertheless I encourage everyone to stay alert and try not to travel alone. This thing is trying to make us nervous, lets try not to give it what it wants.

( Enterprise Crew, Re-l, Chase, John, Sherlock, Natasha, Kasumi, Dean || eta "Nick", Jack Harkness, Ianto, Magneto, Raven, Megamind, Roxanne, Tali, Hotspur, Isaac, Tony Stark, Aberdeen || flags to WARD and RESNIK )

[the filter is a simple one and used solely to make this post private from any civilian prying eyes. Jim knows it will be hacked, and he isn't about to toot his own horn publicly when people are panicking. he's flagged people both versed in this scientific bullshit and outside, because Jim knows as well as any that sometimes it takes an outside view to see outside the box.

just in case anyone hasn't spotted it yet, he fires off a LINK to the hidden documents, along with the translation, making it plain English instead of happy morse code.]

This isn't the first time this thing has mentioned me.

I'm not opening speculation about what the list means, we've got enough of that going on, but whatever this is has purposely left out the clues we need to figure it out. I think Chase has summed it up the best possible way: we're being laughed at.

I tried running another trace but the only thing I keep coming up with is static. Whatever this thing is, it's either part of the ship or has been here for a damn long time. It's coding is almost identical to the network's build.

[ From youth Aragorn has learned the smallness of Men, of their rushed lives and fierce passions, burning harsh and bright like short, thick wicks on candles. Men's lives are like candle flames, burning out easily, quickly, dying off and leaving little behind. So many generations had lived in the time of a single Elf. Aragorn had always looked upon himself and known that if he dies, he will die having lived but a fraction of an Elf's life, and his life as a Man is truly inconsequential.

Yet now he sees that even the Eldar cannot shy away from this fate. If Middle Earth- Arda- is but a single stream in a stream of many, that all these worlds lead towards an ocean- Aragorn has walked the Anduin, and he knows just how many streams lead to that one river, and how many rivers run alongside it, separate by mountains and countless lands and Men, before they run into the ocean.

His hand curls at his side, but he merely exhales quietly. It is frightening, the expanse of these worlds. It is frightening, how little their deeds seem to matter, for no matter how many scribes Aragorn employ to write down the tales of Boromir, of Faramir, of Halbarad and the Rangers, of Elrond and of Isildur- there will still be so many who will never hear of their names, their courage, and their deeds.

He does not say this.

Instead, he only asks: ]

You speak of a ship on a stream, yet streams must pass into the ocean and ships have destinations mapped.

To where are we headed?

[ the pause is only momentary. he has an answer, but instinct, something quiet that he has so frequently attempted to quiet through reason and consideration- tells him that he is not seeing this image in it's entirety.

his gaze lowers to the communicator all the same, as though he might somehow see the man to whom he speaks. ]

We have been informed that the Tranquility is headed to Alexandria- the planet from which this ship has originated.

The ultimate destination of all universal streams however, is beyond my present understanding.

rargh voice here okay.

[ Aragorn sits up straighter, eyes narrowing, and though Spock cannot see it, the sudden sharpness in Aragorn's voice is certainly audible. ]

You did not say you do not know. [ Lowly. ]

You say you do not understand.

[ Unsaid is: why? ]

[ Spock's hands only lace together quietly in his lap. for Aragorn's own sharpening, the Vulcan softens. his voice lowers, respectful but no less measured. carefully weighed. ]

I believe that all things are able to be known. To posses knowledge- through experience, lesson, or observation- is one matter. But to possess understanding is something wholly it's own.

[ He pauses. When he speaks again, his voice is clearly more thoughtful and contemplative. ]

You are wise to think so. [ A quiet hum. Then: ]

There are no windows, yet when I try to imagine what lies beyond these walls, I can think only of darkness.

Stars.

[ the word comes immediately, and is soft maybe with as much reverence as with memory, and respect. how many times, as a child had he looked out at the expanse of Vulcan's sky, past it's twin suns, to imagine the limitless universe beyond? to speculate upon what else might exist. a place where he might belong, and the thousands upon thousands of mysteries he might learn. the things he could hope to one day understand.

the thought of Vulcan, even so many months after it's passing, is still a dry emptiness in his mouth. but it does not keep the gentle murmur from his tone. ]

More stars than you could hope to see at once, stretching into limitless galaxies and worlds. Filled with life.

[ The reverence in Spock's voice makes him inhale sharply, the air stinging against his throat, and he closes his eyes. When he speaks again, it is with a wonder in his own. ]

Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima! [ Quenya trips off his tongue more clumsily than does Sindarin, but he's still practiced enough with it. ] Hail Earendil, the brightest of stars, he who rides a ship across the skies and carries tinuviel, morningstar, upon his brow.

[ There is a pause, then, his voice grows ever quieter. ]

Once I had thought there is no beauty here, in a ship built of steel. [ Beat. ] Where can I see these stars?
firstofficer: (✩ONE:: acceptance.lingering.)

brb mouthbreathing

[ the words are familiar, not for any claim to a native language, but instead because Spock, as all Vulcans, forgets nothing. books, his memory reminds him- and with it comes the ghost of his mother's voice, and his own, nights when she had read with him as a child. when Spock had been conflicted over his appreciation and wonder measured to the expectation he felt along every fiber of his being.

but that is for another time. perhaps another day entirely. ]

The Tranquility's quarters have no windows to speak of. However, the shuttle bay will offer you a view of this. Should you so desire, I would averse neither to accompanying you or providing direction.
therangerking: (over the hills○)

why... are you mouthbreathing... god...

[personal profile] therangerking 2012-05-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ A shuttle bay. A view of the stars, near-close enough to touch. Aragorn is reminded once more of how far from his home he truly is, for now he rides amongst the stars themselves.

He wants to see it. And this man- he will like to meet him, soldier to Jim Kirk who has the pointed ears of the Elves but seems to know none of their legends.

(Aragorn has learned quickly: take not appearances to confirm assumptions.) ]

Aye. I will like to, whenever you have leave to bring me.

[ It's subtle, but it is companionship rather than directions he wishes for. ]
