She is a woman defined by her abilities, whose perception of the world is so skewed from the average bell curve by her ability to hear everything, remember everything, and forget nothing. Hallah Tawse, the woman before, is a stranger to him and maybe he wouldn't like her. (It's better he never knows the name Hallah because he'll never meet her. She wouldn't allow it.) ]

[ there's a reason neal skipped ahead of watching all his work crumble in; some cons like the takedown, enjoy watching the look on a mark's face as their work sinks in. neal loves the thrill of a lie, of being better-- he doesn't like to see people suffer.

(as for people they used to be: the neal who had his father's name wanted desperately to be a hero. he wanted to save people, enforce the law. that idealistic, genuine neal isn't even a name anymore-- neal is neal caffrey, and that boy has been subsumed.) ]
