[ The video clicks on to show Carolyn in the shuttle bay (of course), standing in front of one of the windows showing the vast expanse of space. After letting the camera roll for a moment so that you, dear viewer, can come to terms with what you're looking at, she focuses it on her face and starts to speak. ]

This is overdue, but we're going to be having another information session on space, space travel, and the features we're aware of on board the Tranquility in a few hours. Make the time to attend. For those of you who want to get caught up on the previous lessons, I'll include a link to the recordings.

We're going to be going over everything, including evacuation protocols, but I'm going to be paying special attention to what I know about stasis. [ Which admittedly isn't much, as they use cryosleep, but it's more than most of the ship. ] It's been a popular topic lately, after all.

[ There's some fiddling with the buttons and after a pause, viewers will have a link to a sub-network with the videos embedded. ]

What does the flight crew do, exactly? Because I think I could help.

[suddenlycaptain]

Maintenance and repair on the shuttles, flying them if we have a cause to -- we don't have enough fuel for joy-riding -- and training others how to do those things. Some of the crew members pull extra shifts in engineering, some are looking into trying to find a way to alter the shuttles to take different fuel or to create more fuel, some just scrap the shuttles we can't fix.

Do you have more than the common knowledge about the stasis? [ Because if so, October might actually bother with stopping by during one of the lessons. ] I'm pretty sure everybody knows the liquid's got weird healing properties and if we don't go into the couches during jumps, we'll be crushed to death. Or pulled apart, whichever it is.

We use cryosleep, back home. It's not the same but it's similar, and an actual conversation with more than one person at a time about the stasis may help get things moving.

[ she listens in on some of the conversations before typing out a reply. arya takes special care to write correctly to make herself seem older (read: more capable) than she is. she likes how people treat her when they don't know her to be only eleven. like she's not likely to break or break something. ]

Can I still learn about flying even if I do not join?

Yes. Like I said, some of our members pull multiple shifts; if you're ever not needed in engineering and want something to do, you can come help out in the shuttle bay.

[ That invitation will continue to stand even after she finds out how old she is. There are two teenagers helping out already, and Carolyn started working with shuttles at around Arya's age -- not flying, but repairs were another matter entirely. ]

We missed a jump. Went to the gravity couches for jump nineteen, woke up to one person with a nineteen on their arm and a great deal more people with twenties.

And a woman got stuck out during it. It apparently lasted a year. That surprised some people. [ From the tone of her voice, it's clear that Carolyn was not one of those people. ]
