[The feed opens to a rather trashed looking bedroom behind him. Tyler's gotten better at holding back his temper than he used to be but sometimes? He still loses it. This is one of those times.

He almost never posts on the network himself, but someone has to do this.]

For anyone who gave a shit, Mason Lockwood has left the ship. You know, for those who care.

[And the feed shuts down.

Even saying it hurts more than it should. Mason is dead back home. Has been for a year now. The one perk about this place was that he got to spend time with his uncle again, that at least here some of his family was still alive.

But he's gone now. There was nothing Tyler could do to save him. Just like there had been nothing he could do to save his mother. Or his pack He can never save anyone. It's getting tiring, being constantly reminded of the fact.

Why does he even bother trying anymore?]

Why does everyone insist on announcing this sort of stuff? I get it, you probably don't want him gone, but really, broadcasting it like this isn't going to make them magically come back.

Because I figure his friends and other people from home deserve to know instead of waiting around to figure it out themselves. I was actually trying to do people a favor.

[ Awkward pause is slightly awkward because okay, yes, he does know about his part in Mason's death and he does still feel genuinely bad about it nowadays even if it seemed fine back then. ]

I'm sorry Tyler. I know— we didn't get along, but he was still your uncle and Jenna's best friend. [ A beat. ] If I could bring him back for you I would.

[It's weird talking to Alaric here sometimes, knowing he's among the dead back home. It's especially weird in this particular light. Even the dead who get sent here on the Tranquility -- it's temporary at best.]

...Thanks. I guess. [Tyler's never really been good at accepting comfort, this remains true.]

[ caroline doesn't turn her communicator on for a few minutes. with her eyes closed, she tries to will this to fix itself, to patch the skin of this broken, ugly wound back together so tyler doesn't have to feel anymore pain than he's already done so. how many times must he lose someone before he finally breaks? ]

[ she doesn't care about the room. it's a mess, but it's better than him keeping it all bottled inside. she's somewhere in the hallways, having gone looking for something to snack on when she had happened to be browsing the network. she stops where she is, turning her own device on. her expression is a mixture of sympathy and pity and sadness. her heart continues to break for her boy. ] Tyler …

[ she doesn't want to express her sympathies over the network. it's too impersonal, given that the wall between them has finally crumbled. ] Are you still in the room?

[It feels hard to breathe. Losing Mason the one time (the months of not knowing, finding out the truth of what really happened and everything that came after that) had been hard enough -- doing it a second time?

Well it was something he had known was possible but had refused to allow himself to entertain. And then it happened and after losing his mother and his pack back home something just snapped. He's so tired of losing. Tired of the weight that comes with it.

He takes a deep breath and nods.]

Yeah, I am.

[ looks like their little mystic falls group is shrinking. elena can't say that her and mason were close, or that she was sure to trust him (especially with katherine back), but he was something that tyler needed. and tyler was still a friend. ]

I'm so sorry, Tyler. Sounds like it's been a rough jump for all of us.

Yeah -- I heard about Stefan.

[Not that Tyler is close to the Salvatores -- he kind of can't stand them -- but he knows it's important to Elena, and she's his friend.]

[ damon's just about the last person on the planet that tyler would want to hear anything from. but. despite being a massive douche 99% of the time, he does have a barest inkling of sympathy now and then.

stefan's gone, gone to go be tormented by klaus and struggle with a whole slew of crap damon doesn't ever want to go through again. so. this is more empathy than anything. ]

They don't always stay gone.
