If you were a superhero, what would you want your power be? And would you tell anyone about it?

I used to read a lot of comic books.

[And by 'used to' he really means right before he came here.]

I guess I've just always liked superheroes. They have powers, gifts, things that make them special. But there's always pain too. They lose people that they love, or they have to hide their true identity. Their lives are never perfect.

Maybe I should've started by asking if you would WANT to be a superhero.

And I dunno. It's a burden. You got all the shit in normal life, plus you have to deal with the burden of powers. Whether you help or hurt.

There's plenty of shit either way. I think being able to help people would make it worth it.

I think it depends on what power you have. Some of them are kinda shit.

Yeah, controlling milk would suck. Unless your nemesis is lactose intolerant.

[Simon stares at the video for a long time. He's already met a few of his personal heroes, so he doesn't doubt him. But Simon doesn't know if he'll ever stop being starstruck. He's sort of glad that he's texting now.]

I thought you'd be older.

I am in the comics--or so I'm told.

It's...complicated. And I think an alternative universe thing.

Like--I have no idea if I have a brother named Cyclops or not.

[He shrugs.]

Couple guys told me all about the Havok they knew, a while back.

Does it make you want to become him?

Yeah, actually.

I mean...seems like he does a lot of good things, in the end. And that he got past the shit I had to deal with. Gives me hope I can too, I guess?

[He rubs the back of his neck, a bit uncomfortable.]

He makes you want to be better. I can understand that.

...so what's your story? Why you asking about powers?

[Alex raises an eyebrow, but nods.]

I can--but people don't judge us here, for powers. If you need to keep it secret, it's cool but...it's not like someone's going to slap you in irons.

Do you think I should relax about it?

Well it depends--do you have a reason to worry about it?

[He shrugs.]

I mean--I get it. My power killed people. I'm not always in control.

People died. But I don't think it's a danger anymore.

What's your power, then?

I turn invisible.

[redhotsummers]

Uh--

[Wait.]

Look, I got to ask--how did that get people killed?

It was self defense. But then someone else found out about it. She was going to go to the police. There was a fight, it was an accident.

That doesn't sound like a huge deal to me.

[This is coming from a guy who was in jail for two years.]

You don't think they would've locked us up for it?

Oh they probably would have locked you up--but I don't think would have been right for doing it.
