[ she's still so not used to using this thing.. ] So I have noticed there are a fair amount of passengers offering different services for trade as of late, and seeing as I've been really meaning to offer for some time now- [ especially after they were boarded by pirates, but she doesn't want to mention it since it's obviously a sensitive subject. ]

First thing, in the simplest terms, I'm a witch. In my world, magic is very real, and while only a small number of the world's population has magic in their blood, it's very powerful, and rather useful. I'm still only a student of magic, but there are certain spells I can cast that I feel could be used here for any number of things, so.. right now, I would like to offer my assistance with protection spells. They're used to guard things as small as a deck of cards, to a whole room, if you'd like. They're non-lethal, more like a barrier than anything else, but strong against most disruptions, and they can be layered with different types of wards. I'm not limited to protection spells, but considering recent events.. I thought some of you might like the comfort of knowing your things are a little better guarded. I can't promise they'll work long-term, because magic is a little different here than it is at home, but I'd be willing to refresh the charms as needed.

As I said, there are actually spells for a wide range of normal, everyday needs, so the trade is up for negotiation. Which sounds so formal, Godric. [ her nose scrunches up a little bit, but then she waves it off ] I just mean I'm willing to use different spells to help you with whatever you need.

If you have any interest in that sort of thing, I was actually hoping to trade it for a few lessons in how to better use these communicators, and some of the other technology found around the ship. I can't use magic to protect the conversations on here, for instance, and I'd like to learn how to do that. The wizarding world is very, very far behind on technological advances in the world- [ plus she's from the 1970s... ] -so I would be extremely grateful to anyone that would be willing to help me fill in the gaps there, so to speak. Thank you!

Technically, no. I could remove the spell at any time, though I'm not sure why I would find reason to do so..

Though they would hold up just the same, even if I were to leave the ship. There are spells that were cast hundreds of years ago, in my world, that are still just as unbreakable as they were when they were first cast. And there are spells that are linked to the witch that cast them, in some way, but they don't have to be.

But as long as it was still "up," it would also work against you?

Can it be specified? For example, if I was primarily interested in specific people being unable to gain access to an item.

Is magic truly in your blood or is it a learned art?

Oh, sure, that's alright. [ nodnodnod ] Mm, it's a mix of both, in a way. The ability to perform magic is in your blood, you're born with it. It's not something you can teach yourself. Though most witches and wizards go to school to learn how to properly control that magic. There are different subjects we learn - Potions, Charms, Defense - but none of it would be possible to perform if you didn't have magic in you.

[It's not like it's the first time he's encountered anyone who's talked about magic stuff. Murphy just hasn't heard enough about it to really deem it normal yet. Actually, he has doubts that there will ever be a time in his life where he can just say "Yeah, that's normal."]

[ she fusses with her comm for a bit, then switches on the video feed, which shows her stepping back away from the camera, wand out. ]

Um, hm. Oh! I've got a simple one. Here- it's not too showy or anything, but useful- [ she's moving to reach for something behind her camera now, and ends up grabbing an empty mug, which she turns upside down and shakes, see! empty. she holds her wand about a foot above the mug, then- ] Aguamenti. [ tadaaa. a stream of water, as if flowing from a tap, pours from her wand into the mug. with a light flick upwards, it stops, and Lily takes a sip ] Pure drinking water.

[ putting the mug down.. ]

That's one of the first spells we learn at school, practical things, you know.

[ Her voice is tinged with disbelief and a little bit of awe. For someone who is used to a very loose definition of "reality" she sure is struggling with this concept of magic. ]

Technically I'm limited by being pulled out of school before I graduated- I haven't learned much advanced magic outside of what I taught myself. Without the Hogwarts library, I won't be able to do that anymore. But.. so far my magic seems to work alright here, my spellwork feels the same. If that's what you meant?

Can you only protect objects, or can you protect people, too?

[ oh hello. ah. he looks like he could be a first year, which means Lily wants to collect him and protect him for always. but anyway!! ]

I can protect people as well, only it works a little different in that case. With an object, I would cast a protective enchantment that could last for a long time, whereas with a person, protection spells are only really useful when a threat is.. immediate. Those are more like shields I can throw in front of someone, rather than the more blanket-like enchantments I can put over a place or an object.

[Witches are not unknown to Godric, but powerful ones have always been considered potential threats by his kind, especially necromancers. Of course, he's generally of the opinion that anyone can be an ally if you treat them well and don't succumb to fear. The typical vampire prejudices tend to die quick, silent deaths on Godric's doorstep. You could say he's avant-guarde. Still, announcing you're a witch is a good way to catch his attention. Especially when you casually drop his name like an oath.]
