[the video clicks on to Kirk standing in the armory, communicator held level with his face. his expression, though not hostile, certainly holds something unyielding in it. right now, Jim is every bit a starship captain, ready to go to bat for his ship. even if this ship wasn't theirs, as the pirates have been so quick to declare, it was the place they were forced to call home. they have enough trouble as it is without these guys coming in and thinking they can take whatever the want, and to Kirk- the people on this ship might as well be his own. they haven't heard from Ward or Resnik, last they'd heard they were missing. The pirates have said otherwise, but considering their line of work Jim isn't inclined to believe much of what they say.]

Captain Laurens, my name is Jim Kirk.

I'm sure you've noticed the people of this ship don't take being boarded and threatened lightly. We know why you're here, but we can't allow you to clear out our stores when we need them ourselves. I think we both want to avoid as much bloodshed as possible. I'm inviting you to come forward for negotiations.

[he's aware it's a long shot, that these guys aren't going to want to negotiate, but half of this is for Kirk to find out first hand out how they'll respond and where their movements might take them. They need to take back the ship and to do that, they need to find out where those pirates are. The pings he sends out don't ask for a response, but their meaning is clear: report in, we're going to move out.]

They probably assumed we were a ship of civilians who would give up at the first sign of trouble.

A significant number of comments have been made that we were regarded as fellow pirates.

True, but a whole colony of us? They're surprised by our number of captains. [when he goes on there's something undeniably sassy about his tone] It's too bad, maybe we even could have gotten along.

I am inclined to echo your disbelief. There are a certain number of possibilities that one would be required to suspend in order to justify the boarding of a vessel of this size.

Once they have been out maneuvered, you may find them more receptive to your diplomacy.

We can only hope.

Perhaps our priority should be damage control.

I'm thinking that's our only option.

[and the best course of action. hopefully, in tracking the pirates back, they'll have a better tactical advantage to do just that]

Allow me to clarify, damage control as it pertains to our crew.

I haven't heard much from medical.

As I understand it, attempts have been made to secure all equipment possible. Patient capacity may be limited, but without confirmation numbers are entirely speculative.

Better make sure they're outfitted. This is going to get ugly.

Passengers are encouraging one another to commit acts of violence.
I believe there are some number in medical who would not be averse to treating our would-be pirates.

So do I. The more we can save, the better. We don't need these people dead. They're the only contact with the outside world we've had since arrival.

I cannot help but observe that we have not accounted for the potential response from the vessel itself.

[Jim pauses long enough for it to be clear that Spock has caught him off guard.]

You think it's going to react?

I would not rule out the possibility. It has been invaded.
