She's had the communicator since her arrival, of course, but it's so far out of her realm of understanding that it took her a while to decide whether she should actually touch it, or if she should just throw it out. Of course, eventually her natural curiosity won out and so she's inspecting it now, obviously unaware that the video is recording. Hawke jostles it again, and more of her face comes into view.]

-box, if there's nothing shiny inside it? [She's either talking to herself, or talking to someone off-camera, who knows?] Unless it's some relic with magical powers. The last one I encountered drove everyone who owned it mad - I think I'll pass on that.

The...device seems to serve as a sort of two way mirror, covering long distances. Some sort of powerful magic.

And yet, a dwarf can make use of it? Dwarves haven't got a magical bone in their bodies. [It's not an insult, it's a mere statement of fact.] A magical device that all can use?

Well, we haven't had a right need to use magic.

[Though they have their own versions, truly.]

And yes, it seems even men, who have no magic either can, as well.

The Chantry thinks it's a perfectly reasonable response to people who can burn down whole cities on a whim.

And no one has tried to stop them?

Well, mages don't exactly go about the countryside will-nilly, destroying things. But they could, so the Chantry locks them all up.

Or tries to, anyway.

Well so could anyone, really.

To lock up one sort just for their abilities seems a grand injustice.

Fear is a great motivator, I've found. It motivates people to run away very fast, or sometimes to stand and fight.

And sometimes it just motivates people to treat others like slaves.

[He gives a slight shake of his head.]

I would agree on fear. Luckily...we have not turned to that, in my world.

Ooh, can I go visit your world, then?

As much as you jest, I wish that there was peace in your world, such as in mine.

[It had been bought by a heavy price--his own life--but it seems worth it.]

Every time I think I'm in for a little peace, something else happens to ruin it. [She gives a little shrug.]

Probably for the best I can't visit your world. I'd probably just make a mess of everything.

Considering the right mess some of us have made, I think you would fit right in.

Sounds like that might be a common theme of those stranded here. Perhaps someone is collecting us?
