She's had the communicator since her arrival, of course, but it's so far out of her realm of understanding that it took her a while to decide whether she should actually touch it, or if she should just throw it out. Of course, eventually her natural curiosity won out and so she's inspecting it now, obviously unaware that the video is recording. Hawke jostles it again, and more of her face comes into view.]

-box, if there's nothing shiny inside it? [She's either talking to herself, or talking to someone off-camera, who knows?] Unless it's some relic with magical powers. The last one I encountered drove everyone who owned it mad - I think I'll pass on that.

[She startles a little at the sound of a voice, dropping her communicator on the floor.]

Begone, foul demon! [A flash of light, and the communicator gets hurled across the room by an unseen force.

But wait a second - she recognized that voice.] Serah Fili?

[That makes Fili drop his own device, and scrambles to pick it up again, letting out a low chuckle.]

Aye. I see you are as unused to these as I.

[She pokes at it a little more, then finally picks it up and actually finds the video feed properly.]

How did you get in there?

I'm not actually in the box, m'lady.

The...device seems to serve as a sort of two way mirror, covering long distances. Some sort of powerful magic.

And yet, a dwarf can make use of it? Dwarves haven't got a magical bone in their bodies. [It's not an insult, it's a mere statement of fact.] A magical device that all can use?

[SUPER WARY - but she's at least stopped trying to smash the thing with the voices coming out of it. Oh, and there's the face - an elf! Hawke likes elves. Some of her best friends are elves. Good.]

Our exact distance is yet undetermined. The vessel itself remains largely unexplored, but is understood to be a city entirely it's own.

There does seem to be a lot of... inane chatter. Is this what people do instead of walking around?

[Hawke barely even considers herself a noble, anyway. Having an estate, a family crest, the money to buy nice clothes - well, she's still a farm girl from Lothering.]

Please tell me there's a Viscount I should try getting an audience with. Should I wear my finest dress?

[Obviously, Hawke's adjustment is not going to be helped by suddenly being faced with a turian, but Nyreen is interested in talking with as many people on the ship as possible, so she'll be thoughtful and make this response a sound-only one.]

Think less along the lines of magic and more in line with the thought of somewhat advanced technology. It's not going to drive you mad. Most likely.

[This is new - someone she can hear, but not see. By now, she's kind of gotten the hang of it, at least, and knows to talk at it, anyway.]

Sounds a bit nonsensical, either way. Can't I just write a note if I want to speak to someone?

That's hardly instantaneous, though. I... think these have text functions, though, if you'd feel more comfortable using them that way. It'll be quicker than hunting someone down just to give them some physical note, though.

But hunting people down is what I do! Takes all the fun out of it if I can just pick up this little box and there they are! [Hint of sarcasm, but also - maybe a twinge of anxiety, deep down. Where in Andraste's name is she?]

Perhaps you can just ask them for a hint of their location and then go hunt them down anyway, if it would make you feel better.
