How can people be so idle when there is so much at stake at your inaction?

[It's quiet. The past jump has not been kind to Marius. In fact, he sounds positively unsettled, almost as if he needs to just go to sleep and not talk to the public at large, but he needs to do something and this is the only way he can make his heart less heavy.]

We are slaves here to the whim of individuals we cannot even see, to those we cannot even meet, and -- I cannot keep quiet about it any longer.

[He draws in a breath.]

I know there will be much discussion about why we are here and whether or not we can escape -- and I am interested in hearing all of that, but what I am more interested in is opinion. I want to hear what people feel about being here, be it anger or apathy, rather than the facts of our situation, for nothing has ever been changed with cruel numbers and statistics so much as heart.

[And he stills for a long moment before Marius shuts off the feed -- and, maybe twenty minutes later, he sends out a text.]

In the grand scheme of things, having your memories be of a battle isn't the worst memory to have to deal with. At least that's not going to literally follow you here.

[Marius is quiet for a few moments before he ventures a question -- ]

[ Unlike hers. There's a moment when Lydia just doesn't say anything and the only sound that even betrays the fact that she hasn't cut the feed is the sound of her breathing that goes shallow for a moment before she exhales very slowly. ]

Things that should only exist in books filled with horror, of course it's not real so it's not like yours. And monsieur, it's Lydia. I'd prefer that as nice as it is to hear French.

Of course, ma -- ... Lydia.

[It's a quiet correction.]

I said it's not real. You're apologizing for something that's not like your issues. Mine come from reading too many books that are horror related and involve things like werewolves that attack people who don't deserve it.

So you suffer from an overactive imagination with a particular fixation on werewolves.

But beyond that, fine, you might be right. You can't tell me you've never had some problem with an overactive imagination.

I confess, I do have a particularly overactive imagination, but my own imagination doesn't involve vampires and werewolves.

Then maybe your imagination isn't as overactive as you think it is. Or maybe you just need to broaden your horizons as far as what you'll believe. Or dream about.

I believe the most extraordinary thing I have dreamed about would be angels.

[Marius isn't quite sure whether or not they actually exist, these celestial beings of God, but he supposes it would be extraordinary to some people.]

But perhaps you are correct, in that I should broaden my horizons -- though not to such beasts as werewolves.

I could make a joke about that right now. But you know, I think I'll settle for telling you we have at least one here, I think. Probably not what you're used to though.

[ At this point, nothing is starting to feel extraordinary to Lydia, between the supernatural and this ship, her horizons have been broadened just a bit more than she would have liked them to be. ]

Even if they're on the ship?

[A slight pause.]

And are there werewolves on the ship, mademoiselle Lydia?

There's one on the security team.

[ And she hangs around a lot of others, but you know details. ]

I know, right? I mean, the guy himself is annoying, in my personal opinion, but the werewolf part does make him pretty interesting.

Who is this person, if you don't mind me asking?

I think his name is Mason. I can't remember his number at all. [ She totally can but she won't say it. ] Why would I mind that you're asking? I mean, seriously, I did just, you know, mention him, kind of implies that I don't mind telling you.
