[ Look, it's an Isaac, slouching in his old room - the one that matches the numbers on his arm, not the one he sleeps in. It looks mostly unused because he's only been in there for all of six hours before he moved down to Derek's space. "Mostly" is a keyword, though; he's been staying here infrequently, in between avoiding Derek and other familiar (adult) faces. Maybe Erica knows where he's been. Or Remus, or Hayley, or Tyler, or Seraphim. He's pretty sure no one over eighteen knows, Isaac's gone lengths on the matter.

He's not wearing his mask, even if he's been wearing it a lot lately; Isaac knows a thing or two about keeping quiet, especially about things that can and do hurt you. The confused sad look he's wearing right now, though - it's a bit too clean. It's sincere, mostly.

"Mostly" is our word of the day.

Then he holds up a combat knife for the network to see.]

I don't know anyone she was friends with, but for what it's worth, Miss Rosella's not around anymore. She left me this, for some reason.

It's a pretty big knife.

Anyway, people have been disappearing, and there's this big thing going down about Smiley and stuff, so I guess this is a bad time to ask about gym equipment, and like. Who do we talk to about appropriating one of the bigger rooms or a holodeck to set up a gym? I mean, we probably already have one or two but this one's more of like, a club thing?

More of a thing that's just ours, not something pre-made and ready to use. Is that allowed?

i checked everywhere i could and i can't find her. network id's 404 error-ing me, so i guess she's not on the ship anymore.

[ ooc: if anyone wants to say they saw isaac sneaking around and stuff, feel free to say something about it! isaac's been: a) helping erica look for boyd, b) helping tyler look for his uncle, c) hiding from hunters, d) hiding from derek, e) hiding from adults in general, so if you're 21+ and you noticed a teenager quietly avoiding you in the hallways, it's probably isaac. team jailbait can just throw him a rock or something, though, because he's been emoting over some of the recent drops. ]

[ A winner we have!!! Isaac heaves a sigh of relief on this, finally they get somewhere. ]

Yeah, that's exactly what an allergy is! Or mostly exactly, but like, if it makes you get sick or bloaty or break out in hives, that's like ninety percent definitely an allergy.

[ it's probably a good thing he didn't, since arthur lives in a world of anachronisms. erica's already pointed out that he's even speaking the wrong language. ]

The court physician, Gaius, is a man of science and knowledge. I'm afraid I don't know what a doctor is.

[ At least one of the Hale twins knows their history. But hey, if Arthur knows his French, Isaac's the more academically fluent one. Does that help? Or are you at war with France yet... ]

So he's— [what's the word for it] —also an apothecary? Or is that someone else's job? What kinda jobs did people have where you're from, anyway.

He is indeed.

[ he sounds impressed, in a patronizing sort of way. ]

Most people who live in the castle work in service to it, as a knight or guard or servant, though there are usually visiting courtiers and nobility. Then there's the surrounding townsfolk, most of them plying a trade. Outside the city you're really either a peasant, a bandit, a wandering entertainer or a mercenary.

[ This makes Isaac feel really glad about the Career Choices seminar things, because wow that is a very limited selection of options. On the dubiously bright side, criminal life is a legit lifestyle.

That's something. ]

So everyone's got a job to do and I'm betting most people get born into it, huh. Does anyone ever get to rise above their ranks, so to speak? Like, movies show you how hard and special that sort of stuff is, but you don't actually have to marry into things or kill people all the time to be something different, right?

[ Or so he hopes. Come on, Arthur, lifelong servitude's gotta suck for your friends. ]

Er.

[ actually, that's pretty much exactly what you have to do. and one day he'll raise a commoner to a knight for his swordsmanship, and seat a maidservant as his queen, but until then arthur's just a spoiled prince with a still-developing concept of camelot's social strata and its necessity. ]

Not really.

[ he's also honest to a fault. he does sound apologetic, though, because it sounds like that's not what isaac wants to hear. ]

It's not like here, where everyone just sort of... allocates themselves somewhere.

[ at least you'll be the change you want to be. congrats on being a medieval-era obama or something, arthur, everyone's gotta start somewhere somehow.

anyway, it's the past for a reason, at least where isaac's concerned. progress has to come from a bad place first. ]

So, born into the job. I guess you could take this as, like, an immersion in foreign culture? Look on the bright side, if you go abroad to a different country, it won't be so surprising to see commonfolk and peers chatting each other and stuff anymore.
