[ The screen flickers, and a girl of about 11 with long brown hair and eyes that seem to stare right into the heart of you appear. Despite the communication device visual, it's apparent she's a little different then most little girls. Maybe it's the way she bridges her fingertips,  or how she purses her lips before speaking. ]

 All of this communication babbling has to stop. You're doing nothing by clouding the waves.

[ She extends three fingers ]

 We're all here against our will, as far as I know. [ Two fingers remain ]

 The conclusion is that it's something other than us. [One finger ] And we're certainly from different places, if my talk with Elizaveta is anything to go by. There's no crew. Just us and our uniforms that are strangely accurate in size. 

 So here's the open ended question, folks: Who are we trusting enough to lead us for the time being?

No, I really can't. But the lack of an overarching system doesn't mean we can't have smaller, self-contained ones. [ His mouth flickers a frown as he asks: ] Are you used to being in space?

Very. More importantly, have you found anyone from your...place?

[ It will definitely make Corazon feel better, though it'll probably make Mace yell more. But the girl's oddly smart, which Capa finds himself warming too — or at least his version of warming to. ]

I came from a crew of eight. So far, I've managed to track down two. Corazon and Mace.

If you run into them, you tell them you've talked to me, alright?

[ Yup, she apparently doesn't realize she's said that out loud, lost in her own world of half-filled prophecies. Don't hope for your brother, hope for the saviour of Heaven's Fence. ]

[ There's a moment when Capa considers not asking. But more information is better than less information, even when he doesn't know exactly what to do with it once he's got it. He's not really great with compliments, so he exhales a breath — not a sigh, maybe an uncomfortable laugh. ]

It was the name of a photographer. He took photos about a century before I was born. [ Which is kind of like saying 'thank you', right? ]

[ Chase's words are not hers, but merely memories--she doesn't so much bat an eyelid as she recites: ]

Beware the coming of the Crowing. For then, the end of the worlds may be at hand. His will be the power and the passion, the fire and the ice.

[ Capa listens, of course, listens to every word. It doesn't make any sense to him and he hadn't really expected to, but it reads quite obviously as some kind of religious dogma or prophecy. He himself is not a spiritual man, being a man of science, and it's odd to hear the words come so easily to a girl so young and rationally-minded. ]

[ She looks fairly pleased with Capa's reaction, and--is that a knowing smile? She's definitely taken a liking to the other. ]

[ He nods and doesn't smile back with his mouth, but does manage something like it with his eyes. ]

Something like that, yeah. [ A pause and then he asks: ] Have you spoken to the ship's captain yet? Ward, I think his name was.

[ There's always going to be a legend, or a myth, or a prophecy. Chase is pleased she's right. ]

Waiting on an answer. You have?

[ Capa nods. ] I have. Volunteered myself and my crewmates for duty.

[ A pause and then Capa tells her: ] The Chief Engineer's supposed to hand over some documentation on the ship's systems. Try to get us up to speed with the tech, since it's advanced for us.

—would you like to take a look with me?

I suppose I should volunteer myself. [ She mulls that thought over during Capa's brief pause, and once he speaks she's snapped back to reality. ]

Yes. [ Finally, something to make her feel useful! The grin is rather large. ]

[ Video ][ CORY IS GOING TO BE SO HAPPY, MACE WILL BE CONFUSED ]

[ Capa gets that it's probably going to be hard for anyone to accept working alongside such a little girl, whether she's bright or brilliant or a genius. Egos take a back seat during tough times, or at least they're meant to. In practice, it's a bit harder.

Still, if she's a resource, he wants her in the loop in whatever capacity. ]

They've got a place for Mace down in engineering, and for Corazon in the oxygen garden. Me, I'm effectively 'on-call'. Think-tanking's taking a sidecar to the more hands-on demands for the time being.

[ He lifts his eyebrows. ] But an extra perspective— always valuable.

[ Video ][ CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THAT ]

I'm not an engineer but if anyone needs someone in small spaces... [ Obviously, she can help there. She's no stranger to waiting on the sidelines, but she doesn't have the Prise to teach her things. ]

I'm very, very good at perspective. When can we go?

[ That actually gets him to wince out one of his odd little smiles. Capa's assessment skills tend to peter out when it comes to other people, but he's going to go out on a limb and say that they're not going to be sending Chase into tiny spaces any time soon.

He doesn't say the words you're not going anywhere. That'd be condescending and that's not Capa's style. ]

I'll be done probably within the hour. Give or take, depending on how much they're willing to tell us and how much they're willing to show. We can meet afterwards — alright?

Realistically, I'll still be here. [ She motions to the area where the blue lift drops you off. ] I want to take a look at other people arriving. Until then?

[ Capa's glad that he can help, to be honest. He knows what it's like to be sidelined though, to be quite honest, he prefers it that way. He's never been the sentimental type — not openly at least — but there's something vaguely and secretly romanticized about the way he looks at the universe and science. Maybe that extends to helping little girls who happen to be soldiers too. He doesn't dwell on it much. ]

Yeah, okay. [ Capa rubs his chin. ] Hey. Can you keep an eye out for somebody for me?

[ The corner of his mouth quirks again. ]

We're still looking for one of the members of the Icarus crew. Her name's Cassie, alright? She's about 5'5", caucasian. Brown hair and brown eyes. She'll be wearing a uniform like me. [ The image jostles as he readjusts the picture so that he can pan up and down his body. The Icarus uniform's predominantly blue and looks different than the standard issue Tranquility ones. ]

[ Chase examines the uniform intently, before nodding. ]

I'll keep an eye out for her. If you find a tall, hulking blonde man with blue eyes like mine, let me know. It's my brother.

[ Unlikely, but she may as well put it out there.]

[ That gives Capa pause, longer than usual. ]
