Since I've only just arrived and it seems there's a lot to learn around here, I'm hoping someone out there can answer a couple of questions for me. Just simple ones right now, really.

What do you all do for fun, in your leisure time? Is there a library, or games? Darts, pool table, that sort of thing maybe?

And, um...I know there's been a little talk about it, but is there any alcohol on board? And if so, is it available for public consumption or do I have to beg someone for a drink or two?

I think it's fascinating. I could wish I'd had some say in it, that's for certain. But I mean, how often do you get the chance to go to outer space?

I kinda prefer it to where I was at home, for now.

Brooklyn. I kinda miss it, it's been a long while since I've been there. What about you?

Never been there, never been across the Atlantic at all, actually. I'm from Cardiff most recently, but I was born in London. And grew up partly in Osaka. I guess I think of myself really as a Londoner, though.

Spent a while in London myself, but mostly we've been on the mainland.

What did you think? Is it as nice as Brooklyn?

...Well, miss Toshiko, I sorta saw it after it'd been bombed to hell, so I dunno if I can quite be an accurate judge.

It's a beautiful city when it isn't like that. I'm sorry you didn't get to see a better side of it.

I think holding a cinema night is a brilliant idea. I saw the projector, it's sort of funny. I deal with super-advanced technology every day, but I'd never seen an old-fashioned film projector up close before.

Would you believe, he made that thing in about 20 minutes or somethin'? Man's a goddamn genius.

I sort of got that impression about him. I've promised him a lecture on Hawking's work in the advancement of general relativity. Bring him up to speed on what's been happening in the world of physics over the intervening sixty years.

[That gets a bit of a blank stare out of him.] ...Sorry, physics isn't ...exactly my kinda thing.

Sorry, I get carried away sometimes. I don't get much chance to talk to people who're really interested in it, you know?

I promise to keep the tech talk to a minimum when we're on our expedition. That is, if I haven't chased you away with the physics babble?

I expect to hear more about you, anyway. You've hardly told me anything other than you're from Brooklyn and in the army.

Well, there's not a whole lot to tell. My big brother's here, his name's Steve. He fought in the war, too.

I'd like to meet your big brother sometime. I'm an only child, myself, but I suppose you could say Jack and Ianto are sort of big brothers. Even though technically Ianto's younger than me.
