[ Carolyn is sitting in her room instead of lurking around the shuttle bay for once. The reason why should be clear after a few minutes, when an orange tabby pokes his head out from behind her before plopping himself on her lap. Carolyn honestly just looks like she has no idea what to do for a moment before reaching to scratch him behind the ears, speaking to the camera as she does. ]

Some of you might recognize this cat as Jones, who belongs to Ellen Ripley. For those of you who knew her, it appears that she's gone home. I'll be looking after him for her.

[ Still petting the cat, she clears her throat. ]

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Carolyn Fry. On the Tranquility I'm part of the flight crew, but back home I was a pilot and captain of a merchant ship -- a spaceship. As a result, I've been helping people out with basic skills to work on in space. Last month we held a training session on health, fitness, nutrition, shuttle procedures, and basic evacuation. In the case that either myself or Ripley vanished and to keep a copy for anyone who wasn't able to make it or wasn't on the ship, we recorded the session.

[ Well, Carolyn's still alive. ... On the ship, anyway. ]

Me too. She knew what she was doing.

Ripley's gone? I'm sorry. I hope she's gone to a better place.

Yeah, me too.

[ There's a nod. ]

A tomcat, yeah. You like cats?

I had a cat once, an orange tabby like him.

[ Nah she probably just cleaned it out and went to sulk in her room. ]

It's just the three of us now.

Not allergic. [Said in a tone that suggests he doesn't particularly LIKE them, but whatever. He can deal. And not long after he's rapping on her door with the best space vodka he's safely hoarded away.]

[He's pretty certain she doesn't, but then, he didn't know that much about her past. Maybe she had come from or been somewhere affluent enough for earth-standard animals.]

I know they don't like water. [ That's a no. ]

But they're fairly independent, from what I remember.

From what you remember.

[Riddick had never even heard of a cat before arriving on board the Tranquility. Then one had followed him around the ship for several months. He hasn't seen it for a while, wonders for a moment what might have happened to it.]

[Geordi's glancing over files, but Carolyn definitely sounds like someone who can give some good direction, and that deserves a response.]

Looks like you've got a good handle on things, captain. I'll make sure to review the files. I'm curious, are shuttle flights a frequent part of the Tranquility's operation?

I won't lie, communication on the ship could still be improved. But it's gotten better, and that makes getting a handle on things much easier.

Not particularly, no. We've only got five working shuttles and three people who know how to pilot them. There are AIs in the shuttles that could fly them, but personally, I don't trust them as much. However, the Tranquility does occasionally stop at outposts, and then the shuttles see the most use. Barring any emergencies in which we all have to evacuate and quickly, that may be the extent of their use for a while.

[He nods. That makes sense, especially having served as a navigator early in his career.]

Yeah, a lot of designs I've seen put the ship's computer to use in plotting courses, and manual piloting can be tricky, but you don't usually see the entire navigation process entirely automated. Sometimes it...just isn't practical.

Are any schematics available? I'd like to study up on what we have to work with.

[ Well, Jones certainly seems to react... and by that I mean he twitches his tail and sniffs the air. Carolyn just looks completely out of her element. ]

He is, definitely. [ Just gonna scratch him behind the ears, that much she can do. ]
