[ The voice, it might be a comfort, sounds as if modern English is also not native to it's tongue. ] Do we know to whom they belong, the bones?

I do not believe it has intentions beyond games and high stakes, but it seems it does not wish the death of us. Hotspur, was he well informed?

[ It is less of the accent that comforts him than the voice itself. He dislikes speaking over text. ]

Nay, I know not. [ A beat. ]

It has been said that he has information none others do, but I do not know if that is true.

I feel that the smile cannot afford the loss of it's throne.

I can't say firmly, to be true. They hide plenty and I'd say know more than what is spoken.

Think you this: Two men remain upon this ship, a ship of technologies beyond many understanding. The original crew disappears, they claim to know not how. They claim to be fixing.

The smile shows after four months. What says that?

Nay, not many, but enough to know that there are no answers.

[ A pause, then, wryly: ]

Thus I will not add my own to such a pile of useless words.

It does not. [ Softly. ] Little here do, no matter the boons the ship has given me.

Then I would ask for your useless words. You speak as a man of age, one who knows battle of Kings and Queens. Days where swords were drawn and men bled with honor and dignity.

[ A long pause, before Aragorn lets out of a soft, soft breath. ]

I am a Ranger of the North, [ a common refrain by now, but unlike other times, he does not stop there- ] but aye, I do indeed.

It seems strange that many do not think the ship as having a mind. It has brought me much. Two friends. A memento of a dearly-loved friend and a promise I once made. [ Exhale. ] My dearest love.

[ He does not declare those, merely speaks them. There is no shame or need to hide those. Then- ]

The red smile speaks obliquely, but its directions are clear, and 'tis those directions that saved the lives of those friends and my own. 'Tis the only voice that spoke that is not one of us; the Captain and his right hand said not a word even as the healing house fills up with patients, slowly dying. I believe them immune.

[ There's anger there. ]

Despite the fear the red smile gives the inhabitants here, and despite its strange entrance and ways of speech- I trust it more than the two who call themselves our leaders but do not lead at all.

[ There is a really good reason why Aragorn calls Kirk 'Captain' all the time. ]

[ You are not the first to think that the smile might not be all that malicious. ]

Think you their previous peoples fell ill to something similar? I had caught word of a plague before this eighth 'jump' occurred. Such strange occurrences, you would consider these leaders to pull more weight.

I do not disagree that I, too, would follow it before they.

[ Let's start a club.

There's a silence, then- ]

Nay, I do not think so. The cures we found are on the ship themselves. [ A beat. ] The sickness did not affect all - there are some who are immune, though we do not yet know the reason.

[ Another beat. ]

'Tis perhaps foolish, but the wariness that the ship's inhabitants hold towards the red smile puzzles me. Two amongst the list have died, aye, but I do not think it the cause.

Not that is interesting.

[ There is a small pause ]

He puzzles, himself. He does not seem desirous of murder, but I think he not innocent. I think he wants to play.

'Tis a poor site for games. [ A little dryly. ]

Does the ranger have a name?

Well met. [ Pause. ]

You do not seem a man to have so simple a name.

Nor you, I'd say. But what titles hold meaning when worlds are lost?

We're just men, here. [ That was slightly disgusting to say, but it will be worth it. ]

[ He pauses for a long moment. ]

A man once said: 'tis one's duty to acknowledge one's rank, for 'tis insult otherwise.

And what of a King with no people, does his rank yet hold? I bare no crown of fortune, here. Simply I come to the sides of all else taken from what was their own.

So tell me this: with the men amongst us from days where Kingdoms are lost, would my claim make but an empty echo.

Why say you that the Kingdoms are already lost?

That we are here, and not there. What of those with no Heir? What happens to our homes.
