[ Kasumi's preferred method of dealing with the network is much like her preferred approach to life in general: lurk in the shadows, occasionally emerge to poke things just to see if they're entertaining. But every now and then, she has something she actually wants to say. This is one of those times.

Everyone's been buzzing about all these puzzles and riddles that have been showing up, and she's been keeping an eye on it more or less, though she can't say she's particularly engaged by it. That shows in her voice when she starts to speak. ]

Since we all seem to be enjoying thought puzzles so much these days, here's one to try out: What would you do if you found out that nothing you did had any real life consequences? Not for you or for anyone else. Not now or in the future.

Would you still follow the "rules" or would you toss them out and have a little fun?

Maybe it's time to explore a new kind of fun. Something that doesn't require impact to be entertaining? [ A pause. ] Though I have to admit I sympathize. No consequences at least half-ruins some of my favourite hobbies too.

I love music and I knit when I'm bored. That's as close as I get to hobbies. I believe they call that the seduction of crime, don't they? The rush, the thrill, of potential of being caught and stopped?

Did I say anything about crime? [ Innocent flutter of eyelashes goes here. ] Let's just say that sneaking around places where you shouldn't be losses some of it's charm when "places where you shouldn't be" don't really exist anymore.

You don't have to say it, my dear! Well, there are plenty of places we're not supposed to be on the ship-- it's simply finding out if we're not supposed to to be there because someone doesn't want us there for THEIR own good, or so we don't -- I don't know, unleash some unknown Cthulhuian horror from the depths of the ship. Takes all the fun out of it.

I'm sure some people out there find Cthulhuian horrors fun. Actually, now that I think about, we have a whole species back home who'd love it. [ Krogans are not Kasumi's favourite group to party with, but she admires that enthusiasm with which they like the things they like. ]

And I'm sure it's much more fun for the horrors themselves too.

Really? Well, I rather wish we had some of those fellows here, then. It'd make things more exciting for everybody!

And louder for everyone. Don't forget louder. [ Pause. ] They would keep our friends in security busy.

Oh? Were they bad? I should like to meet a people who were bad.

Not bad. Just -- [ "Just Krogan" would be the best explanation for someone from her world but obviously isn't helpful here. ] Have you ever known someone who thought that the solution to every problem was to punch it in the face? And the right reaction to being happy was to punch something in the face? And the best way to stop being sad was to punch something in the face?

Sounds like my old friend Metro Man. His answer to everything was 'punch it'. If that didn't work, he followed it up with laser vision or flying very high and dropping it on something.

We've all got our ways of doing things, I guess, [ she says judiciously. ] Some of the Krogan I've known have been great people, even if their way of getting around a problem involves a lot less subtlety than I usually prefer.

I can't really say I've ever mastered the subtle approach.

It's not that hard. It's eighty percent misdirection, mostly. And I know you at least know the basics of that.
