I'm talking about the fact that, in a sense, they matter to you. These persons that you watch and guard are important. Not because they were assigned to you or anything of the like or that it is simply because your role demands it from you. There is something about them that is special. If it was not so, then you could simply decide to continue your role as a sentry here.
