So since no one else is going to talk about it...

Let's do a vote. Show of hands. How many of you think we're all alone here? A whole planet of pretty woods, jut for us. And how many of you think that we can't be alone. Maybe there's some city out there. Too bad you can't leave the camp.

And how many of you think that we're, like, totally surrounded. I hear that's a thing. Because there's spears, and they're stealing from us. Blah, blah. Tell me something real. If there's someone out there? I'd like to get to them first. I'd like to think everyone would agree with me, but I'm sure I'd be wrong.

Actually, you know what I'd love? I'd love for them to come by and try to get at my stuff. Consider this an invitation.

When I went exploring with Hawke and Carolyn and Enfys.

[ Whenever that was. Don't ask for details!! ]

If you mean when did they crash here, no idea. Probably a while ago judging by the rust and the skeletons.

[ Kate makes a face, but Johanna will just have to imagine it. It's probably not difficult. ]

Remember when the nanites got swapped and we all started dying in unusually weird and painful ways? In the control room we found, the nanites were storied in these metal canisters. We found some in the woods around the Nazi crash site.

Yes, I saw them with my laser microscope eyes. I can see them swimming around in your blood right now.

[ Another look to imagine, this one flat. ]

OooOoh. [ Kate echoes her, mockingly. ]

I have no idea. I don't even know for sure that the plane was carrying the canisters. Maybe they just both got dumped there from different places.

They weren't when I found them. They were off along the edge of the crash site, so it seems like they probably came from it. Which is incredibly fucking weird, but so is a Nazi plane being here at all, I guess.

It has Nazis in it.

[ Kate considers being difficult for a moment, trying to see if she can goad Johanna into admitting her ignorance, because she knows Johanna doesn't know what Nazis are. But probably plenty of other people around don't either, so she relents. ]

The skeletons of the crew were wearing Nazi uniforms and the plane looked like it was from World War Two, this huge war in my world sixty or seventy years before my time. Plus the Nazis, like all bad guys, love putting big easily recognizable symbols on all their stuff, including planes.

No.

[ A pause, considering. Backpedaling. ]

Not that I know of. I suppose it's possible, at least the Nazis in my version of the world. Probably not in others. Even if they did, what are the chances theirs look identical to nanite canisters from the TQ?

[ Kate snorts at that. ]

I can definitely imagine Van Rijn with a stupid mustache presiding over a parade of goose-stepping thugs, so who knows. Maybe the Nazis are their ancient ancestors.

[ But more seriously... ]

I actually hadn't thought of that. Somebody else wandering along before us and dropping them. That makes more sense than anything I've come up with.

Some sort of fluid. It looks like the nanite fluid but as far as I know we don't have any way to tell, the equipment hasn't been salvaged. Either way it's still weird. What would somebody be carrying that into the woods for?

For what? We don't use the grav couches anymore, that's the only way we've seen to inject them. They don't even really do anything anymore except for salvage missions and the ship's probably going to fall off a cliff any jump now anyway.

If I only talked to you about things you care about it'd be nothing but axes and pine needles 24/7.
