This is Raven Reyes, CEO. [ her words are quick, a little businesslike but mostly just concerned and ready to get shit done. ] I'm down in Engineering and I'm sticking around, so if you need help anywhere lit, odds are I'm the quickest rescue you've got.

Text, call, doesn't matter, just get in touch and tell me everything you can about where you are and what the hell's after you. The sooner, the better. I'm working with strategy, not firepower. If you wait too long, there's not much I can do.

[ end transmission. now she's just going to monitor like crazy and wait for the scared and the reckless to blow up her phone. ]

[SHE'S GONNA BE WAITING A LITTLE LONGER THEN...]

CEO, huh? [Rhys sounds vaguely amused, vaguely impressed.] Sounds pretty cool. I'm guessing this whole- [noises like he's gesturing his arm around] thing- is a big deal?

[ there's a pause - because hello, stranger making casual conversation like monsters aren't swarming the ship and asking if all of this mayhem and potential manslaughter is, in fact, a big deal. but then: ]

Only if you're big on staying alive. [ because dry sass is basically the only possible response. ]

[Mayhem and manslaughter isn't 100% a new thing, tbh.

But, the sarcasm sort of gets him up a little and Rhys' brows furrow a little. Someone has been hiding away in his room, tbh.]

Let me rephrase that. From all the 'intro lectures' I got when I arrived, it seemed like stuff like this is normal. Is this not normal? Is this not being handled?

No, I'd say we're about 25% under control right now - less if whoever the hell managed to board really does, in fact, want us dead.

[Twenty-five percent is not high. Rhys frowns for a moment, considering. If everyone dies, he's pretty sure that'll include him as well. That's not something that he wants to think about. Sigh, work. Sigh, work he's not getting paid for.]

[He flicks the video on so she can see his cybernetics- it's a little awkward to hold the communicator at an angle that can show his arm bending and emitting a soft light from his palm, which forms into a holographic display of a computer screen.]

I can usually integrate and control most systems I run across. If you're trying to hack the lights, I bet I could do it just as fast, if not faster.

[ raven can't help it - despite the urgency of the situation, she's leaning in just a little to check out his arm through the screen, eyes lighting up with poorly-concealed fascination. ] 'Integrate and control', [ she echoes appreciatively, but also like it's not quite an everyday concept. especially not here. but then it clicks, her fingertips lifting to the approximate spot on her head that his port happens to be, and she's shaking her head sharply. ]

No, that's actually a really bad idea. This ship will literally fry you, do you follow? I want to say it doesn't play nice with trespassers but that's putting it so gently it's almost not even true.

Hey. I have, like, virus protection. I wouldn't offer otherwise.

[Buuuuut, the idea of being fried is one that he's not particularly fond of, and as he mulls it over Rhys comes to a better idea.]

-well, I'm good with computers and machinery in general. Offer still stands, sans integration, unless you're going to shoot that one down too. In which case, I'll take my skills to Communications.

[And his tone sounds a little like that's a threat, but hey, Rhys is aware how marketable he is. Or, at least, he thinks he knows. He might have a bit of a high opinion of himself, but he's got skills, or something.]

If I can count on your word that I'm not gonna show up one day to find your head plugged into the reactor terminal and the rest of you sizzling gently, you've got a deal.

You know, I'm actually pretty fond of this whole 'living' thing. If you say that linking up with the ship will kill me then I don't really see the point in risking it.

So yeah, no worries from me.

So... where is engineering?

Just get on the orange lift.

[He offers her a grin.]

Thanks, by the way. Fastest job interview I've ever had.

Yeah, well, that's because I'm awesome.

Things get bad and you need firepower, give me a shout.

[The visuals on her device are blipping out, so audio is the only to go now. Chances are this is going to be a rather short conversation.]

[The static makes it difficult to understand what she's saying as she nears the dead zone in the corridors.]

[ the closer she gets to the dead zone, the less raven can actually do - so she's gonna make this quick. ]

What's after you? [ she's already trying to pinpoint a location. ]

[Feed cuts off. Is that right?]

You got that level of control now?

[It's a surprise. But then, the last head of engineering Taylor had any contact with was Arya - she doesn't know how much might have changed in that time.]

We're fortifying Medbay. There anything you can do to lock that area down?

Not sure calling in a deep freeze or turning off the gravity counts as much control even from this far off, but hey. [ because that's literally all she can do, is environmental shit. hence the 'call ahead or we might be boned' clause.

but then it's down to business, and she's pulling up the monitors for medbay. climate, oxygen, power, access security. ]

Best I can do is make sure nothing can open the doors from the outside and raise the alert if anything's coming at you through the vents. If whatever's out there is strong enough to tear clean through a locked door, though, that's all on you.

I'll take what we can get.

[And they're not dealing with regular human enemies, after all.]

We need the main doors accessible. Lock the rest down. If Gunnery move their asses, nothing'll be getting that close anyway.

Initiating lockdown, [ raven confirms. anyone who tries to use the auxiliary doors after this point will receive a request for an override command - one that she'll supply if tyke asks, but for now it's keeping the doors shut tight. ]

And what if they don't? [ gunnery. what if they don't move their asses? pardon her, she's still trying to break out of the 'if you want something done right, you can only count on yourself to do it' mindset. ]

Jax knows I don't like waiting.
