Is this quiet permanent? It's a little unnerving.

Look, I haven't got any clue, alright? I'm as in the dark as the rest of you. But I do know that the ship's functioning exactly as it's meant to, so there's no point in anyone panicking about the engines going quiet.

The only thing that's changed recently is those strange messages. Either that or there's something else out there that the ship knows about that we don't, and it or whoever's in charge of it is following protocol.

You're right, I didn't tell you the answer to a question you never asked me about a department you've never shown any interest in. I don't know what I was thinking not volunteering that information out of the blue, especially with how much you encourage random conversation.

You can't really think that's some rescue ship out there looking for us. And that they're just going to pick us up and pat us on the head and send us safely home again? Come on. We're never better off being found.

or maul each other in the hallways
or die of a mysterious disease, or from our own nanites fending off a mysterious disease, etc

Odds of being found being anything worse than that aren't exceptionally high, really

I'd rather do something myself instead of waiting for rescue. It's funny, but I don't have very much trust in the odds.

Are you ready to pay for someone saving you, or are you hoping it's going to be done out of the goodness of someone's heart? What's the odds of finding someone really nice?

Not everyone's that selfish. Some people help others because it's the right thing to do, you know.
