[ For all that Emma tries not to brood, she missed space Christmas and news of Pan's curse has her feeling particularly sentimental. Reflective, even. And the prospect of losing her memories, losing her loved ones, only serves to remind her that sooner or later, they're all trying, in some capacity, to lose the people they've grown to care about aboard the Tranquility. ]

A friend of mine pointed out a while back that not everyone has a home to go back to at this point. Or one worse than what's here, whether that means they're dead or just some other kind of screwed.

[ Strangely, with Dean back now, she has to wonder if he'd say the same again. That staying on the ship, even as it is now, is better than the alternative for some. Getting a read on him is tougher now. It feels like she's missing pieces. ]

What about you? What's your best case scenario for whenever we figure out what the hell's going on here? Do you go home, forget all about it? Backtrack to Arima and set up shop?

Not for us. There're a few aliens, though, where that'd be no time at all.

I don't envy them.

Neither do I. But they've adapted. Found ways to live when they're living past most everyone else.

I wager we might have a different definition of living than they do then.

You'd be right. It's amazing how different they are. But it puts a lot into perspective for us, too. Sometimes makes the things we worry about seem tiny. But for them (for some of them, anyway) they can look at us and appreciate how important life really is.

What do you know. Light at the end of the tunnel, after all.

Meant to ask-- "Arima?"

Old mining colony turned black market. We stopped there a few jumps back. Didn't get anything useful from the locals either. They weren't overly fond of us.

A colony? The ship's landed? That's a detail I would've liked to know. How many colonists? Were they human?

I didn't see the whole place. Thousands, at least. Mostly human that I saw. Some so modified that I wasn't sure.

Modified? They had implants? Or?

Yeah. All kinds. Some of them were obvious, some probably aesthetic, but most of them I couldn't even begin to guess what they were for. Pretty much everyone had them.

Could be biotics. That'd be my guess. Most people have some kind of implants where I'm from for a lot of different reasons.

Should have asked you while we were there. You might've known more about them. Or ... the other you might have.

Might've, yeah. Thanks for the intel. Good to know in case we land there again sometime.
