I'm aware that this is about to sound terribly dramatic, but. [ But she's paused a moment, debating cutting the feed entirely. She's been too reclusive, however, and this is as good a way as any to try and connect to her fellow passengers, isn't it? ]

I've spent my whole life in exodus. It's as if my life is split into chapters, and each one ends with having to flee the place I'd been calling home. Being stuck somewhere isn't something I'm accustomed to.

[ Which brings us to the point: ] How do you all stand it? I'm discovering that I'm terrible at keeping busy without wilderness to go tromping through, noble children to drag home, or a city guard to assist. Does anyone need anything fetched? I might actually be desperate enough to play messenger and courier for someone. I can only do target practice so much before even that gets dull.

[ There's a heavy sigh. Hawke doesn't like this one bit. ]

Which reminds me, I don't suppose there's anyone around here who knows how to make arrows?

I don't need anything, but... exactly how many noble children have you dragged home?

[Because if Anna ever shows up, this woman may be a useful acquaintance.]

What's Kirkwall like?

[She can understand the impulse to flee into the wilderness, although she'd never describe herself as in need of rescue. But she's also a special case. Someone coddled and defenseless might be in real trouble just against wild animals, even without... well, she doesn't know the specifics of what blood mages or darkspawn are, but they don't sound good.]

[She wouldn't have called the regime she originally intended "repressive," and her father, with his good nature and good intentions, would not intentionally have oppressed the populace. But they had each planned to keep Arendelle closed, and she remembers how stifled and miserable she felt, and how much all of it was driven by fear.]

I can certainly understand wanting to escape that kind of place. Why did they keep such a tight grip on it?

I know how to make arrows. Papa taught me when I was younger.

It's an acquired taste. Much like Oghren's special brew. ( there is some amusement to her tone, though it is quick to fade. ) I read often, in Kinloch Hold. When that tired me, well. I tended to get into trouble. Not so badly as some of my fellow apprentices, mind you. I never landed myself in solitary confinement.

( what kind of relative would she be if she didn't offer to help somehow? )

I'd advise against playing errand-girl. It sounds like you know why. ( another thing they have in common, apparently! ) I've found the gardens here to be a refuge. There may be no dragons to slay here, but we can arrange ourselves some target practice.

( in her case, she'll just use nature or ice elemental spells. she's responsible, ofc. )

It's hard to sit still when you've always been busy.

... and perhaps, but crossbow is what I am used to.

Used to simply find distractions. Keep busy. Work.

Now, not so sure how to stand it all anymore. [Not since the recon. The corridors, the hallways -- the white light.]

I spent what I remember of my life stuck in one place. Spent most of the time trying to escape. Here, I work in the gardens.

The ship doesn't run itself. Any of the departments would be glad for extra help. Given your mention of target practice and dragging noble children home, Security or Gunnery would likely be the best fit.

It is, shall we call it, a different pace.

[And different is putting it mildly.]

I would suggest employment- likely the Security department would be hiring.

Finally I understand why they say it's thicker than water! I'd always wondered. I believe I'm honoured.

And mine! Though there is an entire thaig full of dwarves with their knickers in a twist who might disagree. I enjoy the gardens for precisely that reason, myself.

( her own tone lightens, heartened by the acceptance of her offer. ) Perfect. There is an open field of grass on the third level we might use.

I even have an effigy fashioned to use as a target.
