So it's come to my attention that i'm one of the last ones left on the medical team on board. And now, the one who's been here the longest. [ Peter sounds a touch strained - for a variety of reasons - maybe a little on the tired side. But he's altogether more than willing to be doing this and he sounds enough like it to get by. ]

My name is Peter Petrelli and I woke up from a month long coma to find out that the entire department is under my control. I know I've missed a lot, but that doesn't change the fact that i'm happy to take on the mantle. What that doesn't mean is that I'm planning on trying run the whole thing by myself or considering ruling with an iron fist for my own benefit. But I might as well take the position that's been handed to me by way of default and make the most of it.

For those of you who don't know - who're new around here and haven't heard about it yet, we've got jobs that're set up by departments. That's the simplified version. If you want to hear more about all of them, I might not be the perfect person to ask considering I don't know everything about all of them. But if you're looking for a job doing something, ask around. There's more than enough opportunities for everyone.

But that's not what i'm trying to get at. [ A pause, only noteworthy because of the sigh that follows. ]

After missing a jump and the entire month that followed, i'm pretty sure i'm behind on who all's now in medical and who might want to be. Half of all I want is to meet everyone who's joined that I haven't met already, make sure i've got an actual grip on things. The other half is to try and find anyone who's interested in joining. We'll take anyone who thinks they can offer any kind of help - we're lacking in staff right now, or we were last I knew, and finding some more help would be appreciated.

Or if you just want to stop by the med bay to talk about it in person, feel free to. I'm here now if anyone's interested - I won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Peter? My name is Laura Roslin. Your brother, Nathan, told me to speak with you. But I believe it best if we keep it off the network.

[ Just a quick nod of understanding. ] We can talk wherever you'd like.

I can make my way to medical, if that's easiest.

Sure, only because i'm already here. I'll keep my eyes open for you.

I'll be there shortly.

[Laura cuts the video and begins to make her way down towards medical. In no more than ten minutes, she arrives, knocking on the door frame as she enters.]

Peter Petrelli?

[ Peter isn't overly preoccupied, only keeping busy by familiarizing himself with the entire area. He remembers bits and pieces but needing to know exactly where everything is at a moments notice is an imperative.

Standing up and looking towards the sound of the voice, Peter gives a little wave. ]

I'm here.

Hello, [Laura says, but she doesn't wave back. Instead, she crosses to him and offers her hand.] It's good to meet you.

Yeah, you too. [ He offers her a short smile while he takes her hand, shaking it in greeting. ] Nathan sent you?

He did. In the past month since I've arrived he's proven to be extremely kind and helpful. [She smiles appreciatively. But, enough of that. To business.]

I wanted to speak to you about what sort of medical treatments you offer; and for that matter, if you, or anyone else on this ship, is indeed a licensed medical professional. It's of extreme importance to me.

[ Peter almost says something about how those two words never used to be something he heard when it came to his brother, but Peter smiles instead, somehow proud of his brother for becoming an actual humanitarian.

And considering that's not the reason for her being here, Peter brushes it aside easily enough. ]

I'm a licensed paramedic and nurse, if that's what you mean. I don't know all the rest of our team members so I can't tell you how many other people are accredited. But I know we have a surgeon on board, too - none of us have our licenses on hand, either, so you've just gotta take us at our word.

[ Peter looks apologetic for a second, wishing he had more information than he does, but nobody's filled him in as much as he'd liked to be. ] The treatments we offer- also depends on who we have working with us. We've can work with simple things like colds, stitches, burns- but I don't know if we can treat more intricate problems like genetic disorders. I've heard that we have two witches on our team and I don't know what they can do. The ship's also full of equipment and medication - is there something in specific you're looking for?

[Laura takes all this in, cataloging it for later reference. But when Peter asks, Laura becomes solemn, taking her glasses off.]

About four years ago, Peter, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was told it was inoperable. Some time ago, we learned the cancer had disappeared, after some... unique medical procedures. As of right now, I am told I only have a few months to live, at best.

[ There's a number of things that Peter wants to say, but he thinks for a few long seconds, quietly steeping in the information and wondering whey they can't have some kind of an easy answer. Why healing people can't just be simple as it sounds sometimes. But even asking Claire if he could borrow her ability wouldn't be any good; he knows about cancer and healing and the twisted way it won't be cured. ]

Have you had a recurrence? Or is it because of something else?

I'd like to say recurrence. But, unfortunately, we cannot be too sure.

The way the cancer was originally cured... We injected the stem cells of a Human/Cylon hybrid fetus into it, and the cancer was completely erased. But, it seems, the treatment didn't hold up.

That's one i've never heard before. [ And it gets an immediate eyebrow raise, considering the unexpectedness. ]

But I shouldn't talk, i've seen people healed in... interesting ways. [ a beat ] I'm guessing you're past looking for a round of chemotherapy.

Well I've been told Earth is free of Cylons, so I should hope so.

Yes, I am. My body was hardly responding to the treatments.

[Nothing says medical professional quite like a pointed witch hat, yes]

Had a few volunteerin' after folk went into the halls.

Uh. ( well — there's sort of an obvious response, and an obvious question. he starts with the latter. ) Is there much need for a full medical staff?

I volunteered-- [he missed a jump, has to amend 'last jump' to:] --a few jumps ago when Tam was still around.

Hi, I'm Robin. I work with Comms, and I have volunteered to help if there's a lot of influx - no actual medical training, though I guess I can clean up and bandage a wound or something like that, but, um. Yeah. One more for the masses!

[ a little smile. ]

I think you're doing rather well, actually. Confident but honest.

[ she hums thoughtfully. ]

I'm a fast learner, if you're ever in the mood for teaching.

[ But it's such a lovely pointed hat... ]

I heard there were a few more people who were interested in joining - just haven't gotten any names.

[ Peter could be more of the asshole sort and give some sort of obvious look about how needed they are, but instead he nods rather simply, getting to the point with all his manners intact. ]

Maybe not as full as a complete hospital staff, but we've still got more than a few things to take care of. Requires at least some people.

As far as I know, my version of Earth is. [ but he shrugs ] Doesn't mean they aren't in other places.

I'll see if we can come up with some alternatives. The only... unique way I know to heal people, from my world, doesn't work on cancer. It's regenerative, so it only helps the cancer grow.

Hey, I'll take it. I'm not gonna say no to one more who's willing to help. And bandaging wounds can help more than you know, sometimes. An extra pair of hands is what matters.
