Does there exist documentation or any record concerning the use or effects of magic on the ship? I am interested in notation on repeated instances of magic during menial or daily activities as well as during times of flux as has recently passed, irrelevant to 'type' or origin of said magic.

I have perused the informational guide as well as backread through the network but this technology is not in use where I am from; I am unsure if I have missed anything due to unfamiliarity with the interface.

There are many theories about the creation of my world. It's heavily-trafficked, one could say. I recognize Princess Nuala as a great being of our legends, and we seem to share a world, if not a timeline.

My people are cousins to Nuala's people, or so we have come to think. It seems you have heard of Elves, at least.

[ 'Terrifying' is different, for Severus, but that kind of power and rawness might qualify. ]

Yes, I have. Though many beings have taken their leave from the sight of humankind, magical or otherwise, we share company with goblins, merfolk, centaur, and others. Politics and cultural differences exist, of course, but the broader world beyond mortal life is at least partway known to us.

So to be mortal is to be isolated, in your thinking?

Or is it other creatures who hide from you?

In our case being mortal is incidental; the choice to isolate ourselves from the rest of humanity is a longstanding cultural practice. Other races decide for themselves where to go.

[ Also like, wars, and shit, but that's a bit much for a first date. ]

You have no use for trade with the rest of the world?

Opinions on that vary person to person, political party to political party. It is a complicated, never-ending issue.

I have no doubt of it. My own people are rather reclusive by nature, but our simple life gives us precious little need for trade. But as little need as there is, there is some need, and so we have relations and terms established with our neighbors.

[Esgaroth and Dorwinion, sometimes Dale and Erebor depending on who is ruling and whether or not the realm happens to exist at the time.]

Sometimes a child with magical ability is born into a family who has no awareness of its existence, or sometimes a person chooses to leave on their own. The way we deal with things is, many people feel, flawed, but attempts to change general result in even more problems than we started out with.

Surely a child is never taken from their parents.

No. [ Only ELVES do that, Thranuil. ] Revelations tend to be handled gracelessly, though.

[Your type of elf, maybe, but not his type. Parent-child bonds are a big fucking deal among the Eldar.]

How can the parents be ignorant of this?

They don't think magic is real. They think their children are going mad, or possessed by demons, or they just don't notice.

It is a frustrating and poorly handled aspect of how we live, and something I've had to deal with many times as a teacher, running interference between confused children and their even more confused parents.

How can they not believe in a thing they see with their own eyes? Are you so separate from them that they know nothing of you at all?

Yes.

There is no small division between nations in my world, but Men at least remember us.

Perhaps yours have better memories.

That seems unlikely.

I couldn't say. I only have experience with my world, and my contact with the outside there has been limited; I am no anthropologist. I can only relate what I happen to know.
