[ Once again, Carolyn is in front of the only known windows on the ship, aka the ones in the shuttle bay. Once again, she gets a good shot of all the stars and general blackness before turning the camera to her face. And once again, Carolyn looks downright exhausted. ]
You're in space. If you're new to the Tranquility, my name is Carolyn Fry. I work down in the shuttle bay and if you're interested in helping out down here [ and judging by the tone of her voice, you should be ] come talk to me. No previous experience necessary, though if you're going to be an idiot, you're not allowed. No trying to hijack one either; [ Mass Effect cast ] there's not enough fuel to get back to wherever you came from [ which probably isn't even in this universe, morons ] and Casey has no problems breaking your neck.
[ Shortest flight crew ad ever, for real. ]
If you're new to the Tranquility or space travel, I hold classes. The previous lessons have been recorded so that you can watch them. If anyone has any questions or suggestions for future classes, I'm all ears.
[ Look! A handy link! ]
As I'm sure you've all noticed, the memories from the previous jump have decided to change. Judging by what I saw, they're from the previous crew. [ A pause. ] If anyone's face doesn't look... right, like it has oil underneath it, it might be a good idea to secure them before they apparently try to eat you or rip you apart with their talon-hands. And if anyone has hallucinations, it's probably not a good idea to go dropping your weapon and following them. If we're lucky, these memories will stay memories, but I don't recall our luck here ever being anything but bad.
[ There's a pause and Carolyn rubs her face. Suddenly, this post takes a turn for the awkward. ]
Also, someone left some tools outside of my door? Uh, thanks. I think.

[ He is so not recovered enough for this. There's not enough coffee in the world. ]
Let me get this right. You had a dream where someone with an oily face tried to eat you, and you saw this bird handed guy too?

[ Put some whiskey in your coffee Nathan, you're gonna need it. ]
I also saw "my" dead mother. And I knew the guy, apparently.

[He's walked into a few disaster scenes, yes
But to the meat]
Oil underneath... like a changeling?
Video
I guess it could be. It definitely looked like someone the person whose memory it was knew -- Schue, I think she said? But then she realized it wasn't.
[ One moment, Bail, let Carolyn dig through some things on her communicator. ]
Smiley left us a message, once; a message from the former Captain Gallagher. He mentions people acting strangely, scanning nanites to know if everyone is who they say they are.
[ Here. ]

What if this is happening again. Someone saw them speaking on making creatures; we know there was a genetics lab here that was conducting experiments. [One that was just burned to shit.]
What if it's happening over again. Repeating itself.

[ Carolyn runs a hand through her hair. Their last conversation didn't go over well, but this -- well, Alex is thinking, and she's not so petty as to not listen. ]
Do you remember when Smiley left us a message from Gallagher? The one where the ship was going into lockdown, where the red alerts flashed across all of our communicators?
[ Hold on, hold on-- this one. ]
They were looking for suspicious activity, checking nanites to see who everyone was.

Matine thought he'd already seen too much- the kind of thing he wasn't supposed to see? Maybe what got everyone killed. So whether or not this is a warning, there's not even a good way to tell if it's the kind we should be taking.
no subject
Having one person guard a prisoner is stupid and against most regulations -- including the ones in this universe, apparently. It was probably off the book, it was meant to be quiet, and he shouldn't have seen it. It could have easily been the thing that got him killed, if it weren't for the fact that Matine thought he was a monster when she shot him.

The memories, the oil-filled faces and the talon hands... Why did some of you receive different memories?
[in fairness, he's not really looking for an answer, more talking to himself while putting the pieces together. There are a lot of pieces, none of which are adding up to a pretty picture.
Oily-faced, talon-fingered imposters who devour the crew? It doesn't look like a wendigo, but it sounds a little like one. Disturbing, whatever the case.]
Do you think there are precautions we can take beyond not following hallucinations? Does anyone other than "Ward" have the ability to-- [these are the weirdest words he's ever said] --scan nanites?
voice
I wish I knew.
Resnik. But we don't know if she's even still alive. And... well, we don't know what Smiley is capable of.

Flight Lieutenant Jeff Moreau, Alliance Navy pilot, best in the fleet, saved the galaxy a few times, blah blah, breathtaking credentials available upon request.
[TOTALLY PLANNING ON STEALING ONE. Eventually.]

We've met. You've been here before. [ There's a faint smile curling around the edges of her lips. ] And I've met Shepard three different times now too, and she's a damn good reference.
