[ VIDEO ]

Contact.

[ will sounds like he's giving a lecture when he comes on the screen. he's looking directly into the camera — it's easier to make eye contact with a device. ]

That's the key to all this. If you're receiving foreign sensation, you need to track down the person it originated with and make skin-to-skin contact. It'll stop the side-effects, and eventually — hopefully — break the connection. Doesn't have to be more personal than a handshake.

[ a pause, and he glances down, off-camera, visibly discomfited by the fact that the hand not holding his device is in the grip of another. ]

An... extended handshake. Whatever timer this thing is working on, we think letting go resets it.

[ the screen’s upended as sherlock hijacks the device, settling on his face (at an admittedly slightly awkward angle) a moment later. ]

But in the meantime— I’m sure you’ve all noticed that the physical links are current, unlike the memories, and arguably offer us a great deal more control. Passive sensations are the exception, but if I were to hypothetically hit my hand — as our resident neurologist has demonstrated — then Mr. Graham would feel it. [ and by hypothetically he means he's tested it, several times. ]

In the case of mutual sensations, like, say, holding one’s hand, this creates a unique feedback loop; the sensation of their hand in yours, and yours in theirs, et cetera. [ speaking of hand-holding, holding will’s hand is getting in the way of his usual gesturing; the screen's unsteady as a result. ] While I'm reluctant to test the theory with present company — no offense — I imagine this could apply to other neutral or positive sensations. If one were to engage in sexual intimacy with their link partner, for instance, then the moment of—

[ in another blur of abrupt motion, will takes his device back — and also his hand. no offense. ]

Better reset the clock to zero, Mr. Holmes.

I haven't been holding hands with anyone! [So try not to go punching anyone in the teeth just yet, alright?] Not yet anyway.

[She figures it's only a matter of time. On the plus side, she'll be prepared if it does happen.] C'mon just figure out who you're linked with and get it over with. If you want, you can take the pistol.

[Thanks, Armin!]
i_swear: (I wonder what she's thinking of)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-27 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't need a pistol to handle myself. [besides, he'd rather her keep hold of it as long as they're here]

You gonna keep mentioning that thing every time the opportunity comes up? [he patted your back once for it already, Ellie.]

[Uh, yes she is because she's fucking awesome thanks.]

Oh come on, give me like three more days at least to bask in it. [A beat, then:] And stop trying to change the subject.
i_swear: (Where has she gone to)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-27 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh so now you 'bask', huh. [never too tired to tease]
endureandsurvive: (too many little brown shoes)

Seeing as I got us armed in this shit show? Yeah. I bask. [Sorry Joel - ain't teasing if it's true.]

You tryin' to make this a contest? [because you're talking to the man that makes gunpieces out of screws and bolts and dryer lint.]
endureandsurvive: (we'll begin again)

[personal profile] endureandsurvive 2013-10-28 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
No. [Which is small and mild enough. A beat, then:] So seriously, who're you linked with? Do you have their number or anything?
i_swear: (The birds in the morning)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-29 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
No. [small and mild enough indeed.] And unless they got some spare vicodin on 'em, I still don't care.
endureandsurvive: (and it's here at home)

[personal profile] endureandsurvive 2013-10-29 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, so the sensible tactic apparently isn't going to work. Time to work the emotional angle. Her voice goes tight, pitching slightly - brow furrowing sharply.] Did you not read the part where that guy said this could be fatal? You'd really rather leave me here than go track down some guy and deal with holding his hand or whatever?
i_swear: (I wonder what she's thinking of)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-31 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Heard it just fine. [That? That ain't fair. Joel snorts hotly. Runs the back of his hand under his nose and ignores (barely) the fresh streak of red that follows.] Besides, I had a kid, remember? Guilt trip isn't gonna cut it.
endureandsurvive: (I've a friend who lives by the river)

[personal profile] endureandsurvive 2013-10-31 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Dammit-- bluff called. She abandons that angle readily enough:] Oh come on, that's bullshit! What happened to doing whatever it takes?

[Because holding some fucker's hand is way easier than putting a knife in them, Joel. Jeez.]
i_swear: (Oh where can she be?)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-31 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Does this look like Boston to you? Do you see any clickers-- any hunters running around lookin' to get their next meal?
endureandsurvive: (skipping stones braiding hair)

[personal profile] endureandsurvive 2013-10-31 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Does she look stupid to you, Joel?] Jesus, I know there's none of that shit here Joel. I'm just saying-- [And she takes a second, proverbial hackles laying flat again. Ellie frowns down at her communicator, turning it in her hands. She doesn't look back at him, mumbling down at it instead.] It doesn't matter what kills you if you're still dead.
i_swear: (Don't sing anymore)

[personal profile] i_swear 2013-10-31 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
[It takes a lot for her to get her way when it comes to differing opinions. This time, she lucks out: Her life might be the priority, but her safety-- even in a place as cushy as this-- comes first; he can't guarantee it if he's dead and buried.] Fine.

[Dried blood getting irritably scrubbed off with a good scrape or two against the side of his shirt. Joel doesn't bother looking at her.] I'll see what I can figure out.
endureandsurvive: (I've been tying your tongue in a knot)

[personal profile] endureandsurvive 2013-10-31 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
[She looks up then - whether he'll meet her eye or not isn't really important; she still looks to him, measuring up what that means. After a few seconds, Ellie nods. Drops her eyes back to the communicator.] Okay.

[She doesn't win often, but she'll take this one as gracefully as she can.]
