[trepidations]

[ The feed flickers, the sounds of rustling loud over the microphone and the face of a mousy, wide eyed boy appears on the screen. He doesn't seem to understand the technology completely at first. He's seen it before, no doubt, in some strange muggle books his father found for him once, but he taps at it, huffing as he tries to make sense of how to hold it so that the feed shows his face and not his feet. He wrinkles his nose and groans, clearly frustrated with the little device. ]

O-oi! Prongs? Padfoot? S'this some kind of joke? C'mon, I really -- I mean, I need to get some homework done and I'm not really sure where this is or... or what this is. I mean, there were those things when I arrived and, it's just -- do you -- can you help?

[Peter Pettigrew sighs a little bit. Of course they wouldn't answer. This is probably some really bad prank, and he's always the butt of their jokes, really. The feed jerks around as he very nearly drops it, and Peter makes a rather disapproving face. ]

Is anyone there? Honestly, this place -- I'm lost.

[ Well, this has not been a good way to start the day. He's only a tiny bit grumpy, really. ]

Are you near anything distinctive? Like.. a kitchen, or a set of double doors? A lot of the hallways are identical so I just need some sort of landmark to go by, then I can find-

Hullo, this isn't a prank. It's a bit of a mess, but you're actually on a spaceship. There are other wizards here and quite a few muggles, but you don't need to keep mum about magic around them, so at least you won't be alone?

[He doesn't yet recognize Peter. Oh dear.]

[ Whoa. That kid looks weirdly like James, and it's more than a little disturbing. He blinks at the screen, fidgeting. ]

How did you know... know that I'm a wizard?

[ He knows he doesn't know this guy, so it's a little weird he knew right off the bat. It's not like he has his wand out or anything. ]

I don't think we know each other? I mean, I'm sorry if we've met already but...

Peter?

[His voice sounds strangled, distant-- but it's definitely Remus on the other end.]

Peter, we're-- ah-- we're all here. Where are you?

[trepidations]

[ Peter recognizes the voice, but he isn't sure whether or not he should feel relieved. He knows that sound -- it's quite similar to the way Remus sounds after a transformation is complete. Or so Peter thinks. ]

A-are you? That's good. I thought it was -- well, you know. Padfoot. I think I'm near the kitchens? Or at least that's what I think they are. They don't look anything like the one's I've seen before.

What?

[ A blink. He stares for a few moments because he isn't entirely sure how to respond at first. ]

Actually... actually I do. I'd like to have good marks!

[ The thing about James Potter is that most people get him wrong. It's an easy assumption to make, that he jumps head-long into things without thinking or feelings or really understanding what the consequences are. And sometimes, yes, this is very much the truth. But not always. Most often, James knows exactly what he's doing and what it could possibly do to others, to himself, and he just goes ahead with it anyway.

Which is why, when he sees Peter, it's an immediate reaction. A jump into everything despite feeling...well. Conflicted. This is Peter, Peter who is apparently the reason he dies. Lily dies. That Harry's life is the way it is. He's apparently the blame and from what he's heard from Remus and Sirius, they've already accepted that. Blame him. But James...can't. Not yet. Not when the kid on the other end of these little muggle devices is still Peter, Wormtail, one of his friends. Maybe, if he tries harder, he can fix things - fix them for everyone. ]

Pete! [ And okay, so maybe that was a little panicked and unnecessarily loud. But James can be excited, even if there are way too many thoughts running through his head right now. So, Peter, have a smile. ] Welcome to space, mate! Where- [ Well, maybe Peter won't notice the way the smile falters ever so slightly. He needs to finds the others, or at the very least Sirius. Make sure he doesn't so something crazy. ] Where are you?

[ He's not sure what he is expecting, but James Potter is definitely a welcome sight. Maybe Sirius picks on him a little too much, but James is safe. Even in this strange place, Peter can guess that his friend is very well known, after all. It puts him at ease to see him. He smiles sheepishly, fumbling with the little muggle device. ]

Prongs! I think I'm near the kitchens, but -- space? No.

[ A blink. Or two. Peter isn't the smartest, and he stares dumbly into the little picture that must be James somewhere. They don't have talking, moving pictures that look like that, after all. And it's definitely not floo powder. ]

I mean, how'd we get here?

[ He doesn't see the faltering smile, or hear the too-loud, panicked greeting. Or if he has, he's chosen not to. Why would James be wary of him anyway? He's just Peter, after all. Pettigrew. Wormtail. Maybe something's changed? ]
