Well, hey there folks.

[The Mayor sits in his room, smiling cheerfully down at his communicator. He's a nice-looking man with a friendly voice and a kindly demeanor.]

Wow - what an adventure, huh? [He raises a hand to forestall arguments.] Now, before anyone gets mad at me, I'm not saying, "Gee, it's great to be here." I've got plenty to get back to - heck, I'm the mayor of the greatest city there is, and I don't want it to have to get along without me! But that doesn't make this anything less than an adventure, and I say even if we're mad or sad or something we still make the best of it.

So let's start out with introductions! "We all already know each other," you're probably all groaning, and I say to that, settle down, let me catch up a little. I'm Mayor Richard Wilkins of Sunnydale. And I'm really glad to meet each and every one of you, and I'm looking forward to having more adventures with you all!

And now it's your turn. Be nice to me, and step forward and tell me your name and what you do here.

[What a nice young lady you are, Seraphim. Makes up for the hateful name.

The Mayor points the camera at his face again, and he just looks so nice...]

You sure about that? I don't want you feeling uncomfortable.

I'm sure, honestly.

It's nice to meet you, Mayor Wilkins.

Well, it's nice to meet you too, Seraphim.

[He smiles at her, all gentleness and sweetness.]

I hope you've been keeping safe? It seems like this ship is a hard place for nice young ladies.

I try my best. But even when you try it's easy to get lost.

I've been reading about that situation a few weeks ago. I hope you weren't caught up in all that. Seems dangerous!

I was but I had a very competent guard.

[Oh do tell him about who can kill things Seraphim thx ok thx]

Now, that's a good piece of news - hearing that there are folks who'll look out for young ladies like you. Who was it?

Godric. He kept me safe.

Godric...Well, I'm gonna have to say thanks to him when I meet him. [He puts up his hands - ] I know, I know, as long as you're okay with it! I always get a little bit overprotective, so maybe it's not my place.

Protective? Of me?

[With sheepish good humor:]

I know, I know. We've barely even been talking for a few minutes, and that's awfully quick. I guess it's just the dad in me.

How many children do you have?

[Usually he doesn't get a question like that. There's just a moment where he's surprised enough that his smile slips just a hair...He hasn't had true emotions since the day he sold his soul, not in the way that other people have them, but there's a weird twist when he admits:]

None of my own. My wife and I tried, but we couldn't.

[But then, more brightly:]

Which is why I guess I just can't really help myself! Sorta want to be a dad to everyone.

[She takes a moment of her own, but she doesn't over-analyze that.]

Is that why you became Mayor?

Nah. All of that was after I got elected.

[Back in the 1890s.]

But you don't want to hear about all that! It was a long time ago.

Well I appreciate you answering my questions anyway. And I'm sorry, if I asked a question that was painful.

[He smiles.]

Now, if there's one thing you should never be apologizing for, it's curiosity. A young lady like you should always be learning.

I did mean what I said, though - it's something from a long, long time ago. I'm more worried about your boredom than my broken heart!

I think around here, boring is preferable.

[A warm smile.]

I don't know about you, but I can see where they're coming from. But at the same time, well...Darn it all, but I can't help but enjoy a little bit of excitement when it comes.
