Well, hey there folks.

[The Mayor sits in his room, smiling cheerfully down at his communicator. He's a nice-looking man with a friendly voice and a kindly demeanor.]

Wow - what an adventure, huh? [He raises a hand to forestall arguments.] Now, before anyone gets mad at me, I'm not saying, "Gee, it's great to be here." I've got plenty to get back to - heck, I'm the mayor of the greatest city there is, and I don't want it to have to get along without me! But that doesn't make this anything less than an adventure, and I say even if we're mad or sad or something we still make the best of it.

So let's start out with introductions! "We all already know each other," you're probably all groaning, and I say to that, settle down, let me catch up a little. I'm Mayor Richard Wilkins of Sunnydale. And I'm really glad to meet each and every one of you, and I'm looking forward to having more adventures with you all!

And now it's your turn. Be nice to me, and step forward and tell me your name and what you do here.

[When Remus Lupin thinks you're a dork, it's time to seriously reevaluate your choices. Remus gives the mayor a little smile, amused and pleased all at once.]

I can't say I've heard of Sunnydale, but then again I'm not from America, so. My name is Remus, Remus Lupin. As for what I do-- well, I research, mostly.

[Cheery as heck!]

What sorts of things do you research?

Oh, anything, really. But other worlds are interesting-- finding the difference between our cultures, things like that. Have you been introduced to magic yet? Unless of course it's prevalent in your world.

Heard about it. [He puts on his Somewhat Concerned Face.] I've heard, listening back a bit, that some people are sort of...Well, they don't treat people who use magic very well. That true?

I-- well. I suppose it depends. I've never encountered any prejudice regarding my magic or my lycanthropy, particularly, but some people can be a bit edgy, I suppose.

Whoa, whoa, hold on now! Your what?

Ly-- ah, I'm a werewolf. That's another aspect of this ship.

Well, if that isn't something!

[He shakes his head - but his smile is admiring.]

That's a remarkable thing, Remus. How long has that been true?

Ten years now.

[His smile is sort of nervous now-- because he's had disbelief, yes, and hatred, and acceptance-- but never admiration.]

Do you not have them where you're from? Any sort of supernatural creature-- vampires, werewolves, banshees, things like that?

We do.

[No point in lying! Always an honest man, the Mayor is.]

Have some in our town, as a matter of fact. [He gives a little worried sigh - ] Always been worried for those folks. People tend to be...prejudiced.

Yes. It's rather the same where I'm from-- for supernatural creatures, at least. But I think things are better here. It might, of course, be because the majority of the ship has some magical talent in one fashion or another.

And isn't that just great!

[The Mayor beams.]

And I like the way you said that, too. "Magical talent." Because that really is what it is - talent.

It is, at that. Do you have any such abilities yourself?

[Well, it's not really something he wanted to talk about from the start, but...Well, if he lied, it really would come back to bite him.]

I do at that. Not something I talk about openly - heck, I think you're the first person I've ever told who I don't work with. Kind of nice to be so honest.

[He gives a laugh like a man enjoying an unexpected freedom - and then gets serious.]

But I'll appreciate it if you use that information responsibly! It's the kind of thing could get me in trouble.

Ah-- yes, of course. May I ask what sort of magic?

What sort? [Demon-summoned, blood-conjured magic. Nice stuff.] You know, where I come from, I think we only have one kind.

Which is?

Well, you know -

[He waves his fingers.]

Magic.

Well, yes, but I meant-- well, take my friend Sirius and I, for example. He's far better at charms and transfiguration, versus I'm more inclined toward defensive and offensive spells.
